Once the impression is made it’s time to add the top half of the flask to create the impression of the shank or bottom half of the ring. Don’t hammer the sand in place, just pack it down using a dowel or other tool.

Great video!! I've been casting bronze mounts for miniature furniture for years but have never had a debubbling machine. I usually put my investment flasks on my fretsaw which vibrates and tap out the bubbles with a stick. I can be hit and miss depending on the thickness of my investment (I don't measure it, I do it by eye). After watching you vodeo I just bought your debubbling machine, can't wait for it to arrive. I'm going to use my compressor in reverse with the machine but am concerned how much pressure I should look to get when I run my compressor. When I use my wax injector I have a precise setting I use and wondered if degassing will be similar...

You can’t use acetylene on platinum, it will contaminate it. Propane and oxygen or hydrogen only. The melting point of platinum is over 1750* C which is much higher than melting steel. All I can say is try melting it and make sure you are wearing number 10 welding goggles when you do it.

sand casting only has gravity to pull the metal down so if a name plate is too thin or too complex then most likely the metal will solidify before it will fill the void. Sand casting works best with solid shapes that are not less then 1.5 - 2 mm thick.@@neuvillate1823

It needs to be pickled is a solution of about 2 tbsp of Sparex or PH Down mixed in 4 cups of water that is warmed. A crock pot on low works. Just make sure you have ventilation and don't breathe it in. Only use copper to dangle the ring in the solution and no steel.
