Pretty cool Edsel. Sounds GREAT! Thanks for posting. I am a new subscriber.
Welcome to the channel
@ Thank you
Finally a classic that’s registered normally and gets driven none of that garage queen only driven 5 times a year bullshit
Id daily it
Nope, but I’d give it an eco boost v6 and make some people angry.
It sure would be faster and make people angry.
Great video man keep up the work! Can't wait for more Buick content.
@@MMC0505 Buick unveiling coming soon, hopefully within the month
Nice Edsel!
Thanks!
Fires right up and sounds good!
Glad to see a Y-block being taken care of! very cool car.
Thank you! It’s a reliable engine!
I personally have a 1995 Toyota 4Runner. 3.slow with a gas guzzling engine. Gotta love pushing 70 and the whole truck starts shaking 😂
While GM and Chrysler were into the fins in the late 50’s up until 1961, FoMoCo started the land yacht trend in with the ‘58 to ‘60 Lincoln Continental, really took off once the 1961 Ford Galaxie 500 and 1961 Continental debuted, took off from there. The 1969 Continental Mark III definitely set the tone for the 1970’s (along with the 1969 Ford LTD and Mercury Marquis). GM tried to catch up to FoMoCo by putting the coffin nose on their cars (mainly Cadillac), but unfortunately their 1971 to 1976 generation were probably some of the worst cars they ever made, never saw any ‘71 to ‘76 GM cars out here despite it being dry in California.
Never been in accident?
No, fender was dented and windshield broken when I got it
@@mdfishman1959 It does look straight & solid.
The ‘72 Olds 98 was also immense!
I hope you can somehow straighten the bumper somehow, a replacement might be hard to find
Already done!
I remember thinking when I was 16 in ‘71, that these cars were too big, among many others
Great job. I always loved the way those "dog dish" caps looked on the 59's. Had them on mine. And i totally support the dual master cylinder for any old car, even if they stay as drums instead of disk brakes. Congratulations.
Chingon
Great job on the Edsel! I have had mine almost 20 years and still do upgrades to it. I always have it in driving condition and do small improvements as time allows.
Writing this comment as I’m warming it up in my driveway! There’s always something to fix or upgrade on an old car. You never run outta things to do
The cars looking good! If you add an electric fan you probably want to upgrade to an alternator. I think the stock Ford generators of that time were only 30 amps, and that was with the engine at a fairly high rpm. At idle in traffic, running an electric fan when you need extra cooling the most, the generator won't be able to keep up and you'll drain the battery! Something to take a look at anyway! Take care, and looking forward to you next vid!
Yep, It struggles most on a hot summer day in rush hour traffic. I'll address it when the time comes.
This is probably one of your best videos, which demonstrates your impressive dedication and the extensive work you have done to restore this beautiful beast. Thanks for documenting and sharing your journey!
Wow! Amazing work on that ford so far! All important repairs for sure. Hiws the suspension? Smooth?
i have a video where I replaced the rear shocks. It's fairly smooth for what it is. Thanks for watching!!
Lmao i had similar issues in my 72 El Camino!! I replaced the whole wiring harnesses, and everything because the turn signals kept going crazy and not working right and headlights were having issues. Replaced the light control switch everything!! Turns out it was all because of light bulbs!! I put single filament 1156 bulbs in the car and ot needed dual filament 1157s necause the blinker system relay relied on two chanels rather than one to swap between the two filaments otherwise it created a short. 😂😂 Damn headache with all kinds of problems all over light bulbs.
Have you ever been rallying? If not, do consider doing it sometime in the future since several members of my college's car club have done it even though I have not.
I don’t know what you mean by rallying. I am sorta in a club tho
Looking Good!
You can get a lot done with a little money and a some elbow grease! We got 7" of snow last week, and cold, single digits at night and high's in the low 20's. Hope you have a great new year!
happy new year to you as well! It's been real cold here too. Haven't been able to get content out as frequently because of it :(
2:31 good video however it’s best to let the hydraulic jack down SLOWLY.
Absolutely true. Not easy to do it slowly while filming with one hand. I need a GoPro for this stuff
iloveit
Loose or dirty ground.
Heat up the piston, freeze the pin. Make jig. Push pin in until it stops against your jig. Done. I did my 900 hp 440 magnum
These wristpins are held in by circlips. They are not needed to be heated or cooled from my understanding. Engine has over 1000 miles on it now. All I had to do was add a small amount of lube so it slid in without getting scuffed
Judas priest. Nice ! I got a speeding ticket while playing this song one time.
Hahaha it’ll do that to ya!!! I’m a lover of all classic rock and classic pop. This song and “I can’t drive 55” are dangerous😂
Kind of impossible not to
@@mdfishman1959 the Red Rocker did make a dangerous song.
I think it will make this story more fun when you find out that I was 20yo in a 93 Camaro RS. (real slow) man!! Good times.
@@JONNYVLFBERHT slow is relative. I drive an Edsel😆
Stay tuned guys! We’ll be building a 2nd Y Block on the channel soon and I’ll be documenting the whole process👌🏼
Largest American Car ever built. 1973 Chrysler Imperial
The outside mirror, cables and adjuster knob are all one piece. Possibly the nut came unscrewed and the adjuster dropped down inside the door. Maybe all your need to do is fish the adjuster back up into the hole and replace the chrome nut! Your car has a good amount of options like the cornering lights and power door locks! The sensor in the thermostat housing was to help keep the engine from overheating at idle. If the coolant flowing out of the engine got to hot, the sensor would switch from ported vacuum to manifold vacuum, advancing the timing and speeding up the idle so the engine cooled better.
Very good to know! I really appreciate the information and will use this to my advantage. Not many people know about these cars
I really wish my Edsel had this. If I idle it for long enough it’ll overheat. I installed a 6 blade fan which helped slightly.
@@mdfishman1959 I'm curious if it does have power door locks! Does it say "power lock" on the tops of the front door lock knobs? It's a weird vacuum system that was used until 1972, then Ford went to electric lock actuators. If it does, do they work?
@@joesmithjoesmith4284I’m pretty sure it does have power locks! I’ve heard them trying to work before but I don’t think they do currently
@@mdfishman1959 It's a fairly simple system. There's an electric valve behind the glove box that sends vacuum to each door to either lock or unlock. The valve is controlled by switches in the rod the front door lock knobs are attached to. To use the power locks, lift one of the knobs to unlock the door, then lift a bit more and hold it until the vacuum unlocks the doors. Same for locking, push one of the front door lock down to lock, then push a bit more and hold it until the doors lock. Just like the headlight doors, there must be vacuum in the reservoir in order for the power locks to work!
I say, be happy that your cornering lights work, and your eyelids are closed... 😊
Turn signal relay
Let me tell you something ghost can live in your car they do exist
I’m starting to believe that to be the reality😂
HAD THE SAME 72 LINCOLN. BEAUTIFULL LEATHER INTERIOR
It's a Mercury, not a Lincoln...
This is a 71 marquis but it’s essentially the exact same car
Id like to say its a bad ground, but you disconnected the ground soooo
i have no idea but you're probably right. Gonna look into it at some point lol
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do that on a modern car and kiss the alternator goodbye.
Doesn’t hurt anything on a classic
Disconnected while running….well my alternators good, ohhhh boyyyy
Hahahaha, nah it was convenient since the car is in storage now and I wanted it disconnected anyway
you can do that on old fords
If this ain’t true 😂. Got an 86’ f-350. Bought it guy says blinkers don’t work and cab lights flash with breaks. Tested that on site. Guy was right. Two weeks of tinkering with it gave up. Randomly started working perfect. Then now it’s back. I then pulled the fuse for the brake lights/turn signals and they still worked 😂. New fuse in now they don’t. Ig that’s it’s way of telling me it’s happy or not
hahahahaha that’s pretty funny
REDNECK TRUCKS DONT COUNT. GO BACK IN THE MUD
WOW your Marquis is great! I'm 60 years old and growing up in Brooklyn, these cars were everywhere. I was a little motorhead back in the 70's and I loved the look of these Marquis. I remember our neighbors had a 2 door coupe model and the the rear quarter panels went on for miles. Those have to be the largest quarter panels on any car! They looked way longer than my dad's 1974 Caddy Coupe de Ville. Good luck with it and I can't wait to see how it looks when you're finished working on it,
Thanks so much! I grew up in Manhattan but I never saw any of these until I bought mine. I’ve been told by a collector that they’re pretty rare nowadays. The 2 door model looks fantastic, I think the 2 door marquis looks better than the 2 door continental or the mark v
This is the first car review that points out what was once.
Haha, I tried to keep it pretty broad but I find that showing a survivor car like this truly makes you think of all the places the car has been, owners it’s had, people it’s driven, and memories it’s given. There’s just something magical about a really rare, rusty, and imperfect old car. Doesn’t change how much I love it though. Thanks for watching!
I have a 59 Edsel Corsair in the same colour here in England UK
that must be the largest car on the whole island
The 1971 Buick electra was the biggest !!
yes and you also had the 75 cadillac fleetwood and 1977 continental which were bigger
Mine was navy blue navy blue inside blacktop
Also cornering lights and automatic temperature control
And the standard engine was 429 but you could also get 2 barrel
Must’ve been such a sweet color scheme, yes I remember you could get them in 2 barrel and I think you could get it with the 400 as well as a few others I can’t recall. 429 4 barrel was the most powerful option
My first car
When Were broke any size leak is Seriuos.🤣🤣🤣
So true but buying a 5 quart jug of oil every 2 weeks was exhausting, so glad I found the motivation to pull the pan and fix it
Ive never had points leave me stranded. Ever. But electronics have and will without the ability to fix when in the middle of nowhere.
I've been stranded 4 times with correctly gapped points, replaced the condensor, got stranded even after that. Since then they've been fairly reliable. What you bring up is a subject I should definitely have mentioned in the video because yes, points are easier to fix and diagnose. Just keep spare ignition parts, a flat head, and a feeler guage with ya
Back in the day we'd keep a small file and clean the points as needed with it. Also important to lube the rubbing block a little for best life. We did tune ups back then at 12,000 miles, unlike today when people go 150,000 and are surprised when we mentions needing spark plugs at 100k still.
Hahaha yep, from my experience cleaning them has never fully fixed them after they’ve been burned. I got by with sanded points for a month but had a random miss the whole time. Maybe my error?
