Here at Ball Breakers we are the leaders in the industry when it comes to broken in and game time ready footballs. If you play high school football, college, professional or even flag football and have used a leather football, you understand how slippery and hard a brand new GST, NFL or even Prime football is when they are brand new. You also know how long it can take to break in a new leather football to see the full potential, grip and softness from that new football.
So what our team at Ball Breakers does is we completely eliminate that long break in process for you. Our team breaks in every brand new Wilson GST, Prime & NFL Duke football by hand to ensure each football is fully game time ready and provides the best results on the field from day one when you receive your football.
Head on over to our site to see before and after photos of the footballs, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact our team, we are more than happy to help in any way possible.

How to Break in a Leather Wilson GST Football
In this video I go through our 8 Step Process For Breaking in a Leather Football (Wilson GST). The Wilson GST leather football is one of most popular and used footballs for high school teams, college teams and even flag football players.
When it comes to the Wilson GST a lot of times people didn't realize that the football needs to be fully broken in before using in a game or on the practice field to really get the maximum potential out of the football, and they don't realize how long that break in process can take.
Our team here at Ball Breakers is the leaders in the industry when it comes to broken in and game time ready footballs. Instead of having to go through that long break in process, our team does the work for you!

Is this whole process still useful for a moderately used football instead of brand new one?
Thanks for outlining this process in a way a layperson can emulate and showing how different the finished product looks and feels.
Actually
does it matter if the mud just says baseball or does it have to say football too
Dude wore the same shirt every day!😀
what happened to the football that you wiped with the wet rag?
It takes off the orange dy and wax left on it
25:17 “we’re going to be making a lot more videos” 😢
Bro, how many times did this man say the word “ actual” in this video
Can you do this on an nfl ball?
I totally messed up 😫😫😫😫
What if I got the conditioner on the laces?
25:18 "we will be posting more videos” 3 years later
😂😂😂
Fr
When should u add the tack spray
Do you not use the tack spray?
Do you have to do all of these steps at once or can i use the water first then buy the stuff later
Should name the video "so what you wanna do is..." 😂 Thanks for the tips! On the wax now. Should add alternative materials/supplies for people not living in the US who don't have the materials in the video (i.e. mud, brushes, conditioner, etc.)
What about tack spray
According to the Wilson web site you should never ever use Water, Shaving Cream, Milk, Lanolin, Oils etc. on the ball. because this breaks down the leather and retards absorption of condition oil etc. The balls come pre-conditioned the leather is not dye at all but the conditioner that is applied and brushing the ball is the first process to bring that conditioning back out, they become sticky doing this, then deflate ball to 8lbs, then you mix Wilson Conditioner/Tack spray 2:1 and rub ball down with mixture let dry 3-5 min. then you hit it with a heat gun each panel on low to finish drying, then you add the Mud thin layer at a milk shake consistency & let dry 1-24hr, then brush in mud leaving slight dusting then you Condition one last time. I've done this with Great success for our High School team. Then I use tack bar and tack spray weekly/as needed, brushed in after reapplication And condition on occasion as well.
Got 2 shoe polishing brushes. No "Wilson" brush necessary. 😀
How do you recommend doing between the laces??
After removing the mud, I’m having a hard time keeping dust off the ball, and not maintaining the dark color. Should I wax the football immediately following the removal of the mud?
Ruined my 100 dollar ball😢
Keep a ball with no wax for cold weather if you're in the North... the waxed balls get very slippery when below 45-50°F
My gst football is peeling on the tips how do I stop that
Why not use warm water in a rag to get off the shaving cream you would think just using a brush that it's still going to be up there
One more question, I was on the Wilson site and they don't recommend hot water or shaving cream, any thoughts on that?
shaving cream can dry out the leather much faster than normal and too much water being scrubbed in can water log it a bit which can be permanet damage but if you really need to make sure you only use minimal amounts of cream and just dont over soak the ball and its probably fine
I have the mud, buy I'm not getting the conditioner and tack until Tuesday and it's Friday. Can use the mud now, hoping that it will soften the ball for a game this Sunday?
Yo what about the tack spray?
Yeah fr that’s what i thought 😅😮
When removing the mud, can I just take it outside and squirt it off with a garden hose?
No that will probably ruin the ball
When do you use the tack?
Do you spray the tack spray on the football? Like directly if so do you leave it, brush it...what is the process there?
Does shaving gel work too?
Do we have to do both shaving cream and conditioner? or is one fine?
Would you do the same for a composite football?
Great video! I never knew breaking in footballs was this complex. Very informative! I’m definitely bringing this topic up to my local youth football league.
My football didn’t get ask dark when the conditioner was applied 12:10
Is ur ball leather
Mine did not work
You prob had a composit
Does the football have to be 100% leather or can it be synthetic leather?
What’s the tack spray for? Didn’t see you use it
This has got to be a new thing. I’m 72 years old, played flag football, PopWarner, high school, and one year college. Never broke in a football. We just went outside and threw it and kicked it, and played.
You guys didn’t throw the ball as much
Is there a reason you didn't use the tack spray and should you use it?
I was wondering the same thing. You can find the answer a few more lines down. @kb24alldamnday81
Kb24alldamnday
That’s expensive mud
Im curious is this is the process of making the ball better for actual use. Why does wilson add all the dye in the first place?
And now I know why I loved old used footballs and hated new ones as a kid. The new wasn't broken in.
How do I get my ball to be shiny again after using it?
Can you use shaving Gel for this ball?
yes
If you don’t have a second brush is it ok to use it still?
Yeah👍🏻
Rinse it really good with hot water and you won’t need a second brush. The bristles are non porous so it will be fine.
Isn’t it bad to get a leather football wet
Only to a certain point, you see high schools and colleges and even the nfl play in the rain
I like to mix some conditioner with the mud before applying it.
Confused on starting wax step 7. Video shows waxing right after brushed off damp mud. No dry time before wax? Isn’t waxing right after trapping water in if it’s not totally dry?
