When I rode across country I made a point to ride up every single hill, wish I didn't though, because pushing a bike up a hill works a completely different muscle set. Cool you ran into a few other cycle tourists! When I rode across country I ran into a lot of other tourists, just had to distance myself because most of them had way more money than me, and they always ate out. I always felt bad because they would always offer to buy you lunch or dinner. So I ended up only seeing them at the campsites!

i need to expplore the bike paths more, theres some pretty dope spots out there! Ohio is a constitutional carry state, might not be a bad idea to pack a piece just in case. i know i never leave home without it. I'm with you, cities blow. i think theyre part of the problem with our society. humans arent meant to live in groups of more than a couple hundred, weird shit starts happening with peoples minds and humanity starts breaking down and degrading. Then we pack 100s of thousands to millions together and we see what we get.

I rode across county in 2012 and I left North Carolina with about 300 bucks in my pocket. I made it to Oregon some how. Every time I thought my luck ran out, I would get lucky. Oatmeal and peanut butter probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to bicycle touring. I'm saving now for a bigger tour, want to be on tour for at least a year, and I have a lot more saved this time. I stopped drinking because of how it effects my health, and been saving good money. Weed is legal and cheap here in Oregon, makes me not want to leave. But I need the adventure. You're still young though and there is plenty of time save for some big adventure! Stay strong, no matter what happens it can't last forever so try and have some fun!

wait till you get to the Appalachians. Most ebikes that have throttles actually suck on the hills, a mid drive with no throttle is much better for hilly applications. I hit 60 mph in the OZarks on a quarter mile decent, and Kentucky and Virginia had 4 mile long 15 percent climbs. A good ebike with a nice motor, like Bosch, will give you more options than a regular bike. I can get almost 100 miles per battery when I ride with the assist off most of the time, I can carry more stuff, and I get exactly the amount of exercise I want. I plan on riding my ebike down thru south america, or at least circumvent the USA. Trying to get my passport now.

Yep, hills suck big time. I used Ride With GPS to plot a path to a local state forest near me. The estimated time was a little over 2 hours. It took me over 6 hours. Hills, and more hills. The worst was steep dirt roads. I pushed three or four feet at a time, resting a little in between. Leaving wasn't as bad, I think because I knew what I was in for. But I did it. No more dirt roads for me, though. Screw that. Rest well. And good luck!
