My dad is in the clarinet section. Hi, Dr. O'Neil
Tempo is much faster than the original movie score
The Big Country Has Been my favorite since I saw it at the Theater in 1958, in Texas. 'I never get tired of it because of the sound track one of the best Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Burl Ives, Chuck Connors. This Video left out the stagecoach road ride arriving at the little town of Abilene, TX and the showing the horsesat full speed zooming in on their legs with the main theme intro and the Henessy's "Big Country Welcome to the Dude with Fantastic Trick Riding and Harassment on the "Big Country Welcome" follow up Still great music sounded like Jerome Moross version in 1958
Awesome!!
That guy in the video here has mad skill 🙏
This was a fun project! & 😮 - The video came out Great! I treasure playing with the Valley Symphony Orchestra! What an awesome group to perform with!
That’s our Percussion Professor! Wow! Cool!
I think the greatest Western Movie ever made in the USA--with greatest score-Shane is a close second also with a great score. They are all gone now, may they rest in peace, for their like shall not be seen againi.
When and where are these events advertised?
This is very cool!
Yay! Awesome!
I love this score!
I am sorry I waited so long to hear this beautiful music
Watch the movie.
Great movie! Fabulous soundtrack! Wonderful acting by Charlton Heston, & the rest of the cast………… Trivia: Director William Wyler was so impressed in Heston’s performance, he cast him in his next film, ‘Ben-Hur’. The rest, as is said, is history………
too fast...
Must be so cool hearing this live.
Chuck Connor’s was great in this movie …he played against type.
Not exactly. In his early years, he played different types. "The Riflemen" locked him into "nice guy" roles. In later years, he got back into playing interesting, unsavory characters. When asked why he was "suddenly" playing creeps, he replied that playing brutal jerks had been his bread and butter before he became Lucas McCain. Best wishes from Vermont ❄️💙❄️
I love how this music and animation video tells a story without using any words. The visuals speak volumes, and the music evokes so many emotions. It's a true work of art!
Outstanding and an absolutely great selection.
A great movie with some of the best score music ever written.
I wish this Suite were available on iTunes.
Timeless classic. Forget about Dimitri Tiomkin, Miklos Rozsa or Bernard Hermann. Here's one most genuine piece of score ever created and composed. Bravo!
Mr Jerome maross
I agree with you about Dimitri Tiomkin. But are you sure you’re not forgetting Ben Hur by Miklos Rosza or The Ghost and Mrs. Muir by Bernard Herrmann? Those two just lay me out.
@@robertacolarette1594 Yes, I won't be forgetting Rozsa's Ben-Hur score in a hurry.
Terrific. I also love his scores from The Jayhawkers, from which came the Wagon Train theme, and The Cardinal, among others.
Love the staging!
Absolutely spot on fast tempi. Luscious sound from dedicated players. One or two slips in intonation from the brass, but, hey, so what. This is live art! The subject is in part the rugged power of the wide open plains. Nothing dainty there! Thank you from all my heart, Andrea
This is one of my favorite film scores. I noticed the little mistakes of the brass too, just little. I can always hear the original from the film in my head. I also noticed in the first part the tempo was a little too fast.
Köszönöm a hozzászólásokat, nagyon sokszor, sok feldolgozásban hallgattam már ezt a zenét. Azt hittem, csak én hallom a hibákat. Ez valóban élő, koncert zene, nem stúdióban készült. Minden apró hibával együtt szerintem is csodálatos! ❤
A GREAT Score , like this MAKES a GREAT Movie !!!!!!!
Fantastic. I would have liked to see the accompanying opening credits footage of the stagecoach making its way across the terrain as it was in the movie along with the score rather than clips
I fell in love with the opening theme to ,"Big Country", as a child and it still thrills me to hear it!!!
I loved it, used to see the movie growing up many years ago, my dad used to take us kids to see it in the theatre!!😊😊😊❤
Top Arrengemnet, Jerome would have enjoyed it.
Stunning from the UK😊
Too me, there are few things in the music world more inspiring than watching a full symphony orchestra working together with utmost precision to create magnificent sound. This music is from my favorite Western, "The Big County." It's equal to anything by John Williams, and make no mistake, I love his film scores. He's a bona fide genius. This score was written by Jerome Moross for the 1958 film.
What u smoking? Please Stop Stealing Medicine out ur Moms Purse! 🤔
Without a doubt this is one of the all time greatest scores. My kids have always humored me as I describe what’s happening in the film as the music continues. I’m saddened that Mr Moross didn’t write more music. I believe he has one classical piece. The Big Country in my opinion is iconic and just fun. Though a serious film for the most part. The cast is stellar and who doesn’t love Gregory Peck? There are too many illustrious performances to mention. Sorry for gushing but I think the film and score are just that good. Thank you so much for posting this fabulous performance with the film ad background. Marvelous. PS😊
I completely believe the same. I think it's one of the best Western compositions. Burl ives won an Academy award. If you didnt know, about 3 or 4 months ago a remastered blu-ray came out and it's awesome they fixed the color in scenes like peck and Heston's fight at night.
Yes, brilliant is not enough to describe it. I remember reading that when he was hired to write the score he drove by automobile to Los Angeles, coming west down the huge hill into Albuquerque, then a sleepy little desert town of 35,000. Having traced that path, I feel I can hear the cadence and breadth of those environs, which helped set the scene and tone for the music. He wrote other scores later, but never achieved this again, nor anywhere close to it.
Absolutely beautifully presented, bravo! My only quuible is that the end title is not correct. This is the actual cue: ua-cam.com/video/2Hk1P5eCGWc/v-deo.html
In my city, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Organization have been on a work stoppage for several months. The orchestra members took a big financial hit during the height of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Now that things have radically improved, the Admintrating organization has denied the members of returning to the orchestra's pre-pandemic pay scale. So, with a few exceptions of some impromptu 'free' concerts off-site, the music, for the most part, has remained silent. This more than likely means the orchestra's season is over before it has even started.
dear Peter! congratulations on your 20th collaboration with the orchestra! I unfortunately lost contact with you!
Best Western score ever composed....
Blanco Canyon Sound High Class from Jerome Morros
At 2:37 to 2:42 we get a good look at a musician sitting with his arms folded next to what appears to be a contra-bassoon. I've watched the whole piece through. He never picks it up; he never plays anything. Why is he here? If he plays the contra-bassoon and there's no music written for it, why be there at all?
Maybe he had a role in a piece before or after this one?
Bravo!!!!!! Greatmovie...excellent cast..fabulous score.....Bravo!!!!! Peace
Jean Simmons. Perfect.
From the UK - what's not to like? Yahoo!!
Brilliant soundtrack should have got the Oscar without a doubt
Without question, Awards should have been for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor ( Burl Ives Won), Cinematography, and Best Music Score!!!!!
Agree!!!!!

I remember when Moross was called Hollywood to write this score, entered New Mexico going west, came down the huge hill into

One of the worst ever performances of this iconic score. Basta!
Wonderful! What publishing company sells or rents the sheet music materials for "The Big Country," please? I'd like to use this for my orchestra. I only have the Score/parts for the Main Theme.
