Level up in 2025! Metronome for blues harmonica? Harmonica scale pattern with variations!
Переглядів 347Місяць тому
Bluestubers, It’s the end of 2024 and its time to set some new years resolutions! In 2025 I challenge you to learn how to use a metronome. In this video, I break down how I use a metronome with a scale pattern. We go over straight rhythms and shuffle rhythms, emphasizing different beats within the bar. Check it out and hopefully you can walk away with some new ideas! Thanks! And happy new year...

Finishing the 12 bar blues chorus! Adding a Turnaround lick! Harmonica licks!
Переглядів 206Місяць тому
Guys and Gals, I’m back once more to finish up the 12 bar chorus that we’ve been working on in the last two videos. In this video I briefly break down what we’ve already come up with and then talk about adding a turnaround to finish it off. The chorus comes out sounding pretty good! Thanks for checking it out! How to use a harmonica “Licks Book” creating your own licks!
Переглядів 695Місяць тому
Hello Harmonica UA-cam, Continuing on the last video theme, I wanted to use a lick book and recreate our own lick ideas. We will still be using the V-IV-I transition lick that I came up with in the last video, but now adding on to the 8 bars leading up to the transition. The lick I am using is from a book titled “100 authentic blues harmonica licks” Thanks! PAJ
How to write V-IV transition lick in the 12 bar blues!
Переглядів 137Місяць тому
Folks, It’s Friday night! So I thought I’d walk through a bit of something I do when writing V-IV transition licks, or bars 9 and 10 of the 12 bar blues. First I improvise over a repeated section of the V chord and IV chord, or bars 9 and 10 in the 12 bar blues. Then I create an idea along with some variations and put it into a full 12 bar context. Check it out! If you’re interested in heari...

You cant shred up and down a mountain dawg thats illegal
I only play when ski patrol isnt around 😂
I was so excited for my deluxe but it ended up being worse than the regular marine band 😂 maybe I got a bad one
I’m no expert but I’ve found that even within the same model same key the performance can vary. Slight tweaks to the gapping can get any harp playing better. The 2 draw on the A deluxe in this video was making a slight clicking sound when bending. I took the covers off and did a bit of tweaking on the reed and reed slot and now it plays perfect.
Please do post the backing track. Very nicely played!
Good content 👍
Thats a beautiful track, wasn't aware of it. Where'd you get the backing track?
I made it on Band in Box. Happy to post it for use if youd like!
Who?
Spettacolo
Wuoooooo
I want more . I love the blues . I was at a bar in Arizona,Phoenix . And it had a blues band , they came out in the audience with the sax and made the tables of people part of the performance and the vibes were great. And that night I feel in love. Oh not with the blues I had always had my heart there but with a tall good looking blonde .oh he was sweet. Almost married him. Ut now blues and him are always connected .
Sounds great, must've been a buzz being up there!
It was unreal!!!
Yes yes and YES
great job groovin w/the metronome, Peter

Always fun playing the RBB!
Esp. after having that third set soda pop
Well done. Peter...you look like you're freezing!

Booooom
Great job!
Thanks!
Wonderful mix. You have made it yours, with a personal touch.
Hey thanks man!
Really, really good!😊
Awesome Sounds!
Awesome
I find the deluxe less responsive than the original. Less detail in the sound too.
Great sounds as i stare at the amps in the background....cant find any like that here in Australia...cheers mate.
Thank you! The Champ is a 5F1 kit i built about ten years ago. The Masco is a recent acquisition.
Cool blues! 👍
Terrific ❤
Nice job Peter, you took it easy on us. I am one to slow it down and figure it out,so thanks👍🏻
Thanks!
Quite a good version!
I like
This is great! how long have you been playing? and how did you learn? I have been playing for nearly a year and feel like no improvement is happening at all. I strive to be this good.
Thanks! Ive been playing harp on and off for about 10 years. A little over a year ago I had some nerve issues with my left elbow/hand which caused me to put down my guitars for a while and focus soley on harmonica. I’ve learned from numerous sources but mostly bluesharmonica.com which has excellent resources for learning the chicago blues style. Keep at it and practice everyday, you will get there! I still feel like a total noob so I guess that never goes away. Thanks for watching! PAJ
Really useful. Trying to think of some good excuses now to not actually do it.
Thanks for the advice fella up to now i have been much like yourself and avoided working with a metronome figuring it would be better to develop my own inner metronome even though i do have a pretty decent mechanical one it just sits on a shelf like an ornament! gunna give her a whirl during tomorrows practice seeing as it is far too late for that just now over here on my island. so yup, Thank You kindly for that. your opening sentences brought to mind a saying i try and get out to folks once in a while so i will share that one with your good self here now... "there is no such thing as a reasonable excuse, however, there are some few excusable reasons."
@@mattredfern1339 its one of the most frustrating things ive done. Keep at it and the metronome will become one of your best friends
@@peterallenjensen once again, Thank You Brother 😊
That is super helpful. A little intimidating but I guess if I start slow… Btw, are you tongue blocking?
@@dennismcallister5069insane amounts of frustration when I first starting using the metronome. The sooner you start the challenge the sooner it becomes a great friend. Yes I tongue block everything!
Sandy weltman is a monster harmonoca player. One of my favorites. I'll be practiving this for a while
You already have a new follower. Very good performance. Greetings from Seville.
Thank you!
dude - excellent. resonator sounds super cool.
Thank you!
Thanks for that lesson,I’ve certainly got some practice to do. I’m 79 never played an instrument in my life so timing and improvising are my biggest challenge hopefully using the metronome is going to help been having lessons for 4 years so hopefully this will help me. Regards from Western Australia
Man i thought just the patterns were hard,,hardest thing i have ever tried..but the timing makes it more worthwhile..thanks for putting this up....ill have another swing at these exercises...cheers.
Great lesson Peter,i have the book but now your breaking it down and mixing things.....most interesting ideas..i need to start thinking and stop just copying things...great ideas mate..cheers .
❤
Hi! You play the blues really well. I like your style of music.
Thank you!!
👍you good, really good
Great job! You sound just like deford Bailey
You got a brother in England, harmonica Barge
@@billybad1 that’s a great compliment thank you
Very good!
Very nice👍
Keep 'em coming bro! All good stuff.... I'm a bit over 5 months into this, more or less....need to get practicing over backing tracks now, since I kind of sorta almost sound bluesy, lol.
Sweet! Ty
that's sounds pretty good for a speaker that size. usually a speaker that big doesn't go well with harp. matter of fact i just got rid of my amp because it had a 14 inch. ideally you want 12 or smaller.
@@peteaustin5327 Interesting! I’ve never heard of a 14” speaker! I’ve read that James Harman used a Fender Concert with a 15” speaker that he claimed was the only way to go. 🤷🏼♂️
@peterallenjensen it was in a keyboard amp. It would have been great for bass but allot of notes got lost for harp.
@@peteaustin5327thanks
