Book Launch | ‘Diary of a Fallen Psychoanalyst: The Work Books of Masud Khan 1967-1972'
For more information on the book: www.karnacbooks.com/product/diary-of-a-fallen-psychoanalyst-the-work-books-of-masud-khan-1967-1972/96439/?MATCH=1
This recorded online event celebrates the launch of 'Diary of a Fallen Psychoanalyst: The Work Books of Masud Khan 1967-1972', with Brett Kahr, Linda Hopkins and Steven Kuchuck contributing to the discussion and readings from the text.
Masud Khan (1924-1989), was an eminent and, ultimately, scandalous British psychoanalyst who trained and practised in London during an important period in the development of psychoanalysis. From August 1967 to March 1980, he wrote his 39 volume Work Books, a diary containing observations and reflections on his own life, the world of psychoanalysis, his evolving theoretical formulations, Western culture, and the turbulent social and political developments of the time.
In this first volume, readers will find fascinating entries on Khan's colleague and mentor Donald Winnicott and other well-known analysts of the period, including Anna Freud. Also featuring in these pages are leaders in the world of culture and the arts such as Julie Andrews, the Redgraves and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

So, if I understand correctly, we could sa that in a co-dependent relationship the Third is absent or not present enough?

Understandable, have a nice day
...this is like being an expert on the unconscious, it's ridiculous actually. ha
Thank you. The last four minutes were especially interesting.
Rather than stating that this is a safe space, one might initiate a discussion about what makes or what might make a space safe or feel safe.
Finally allowed the guest to talk post 13 minutes?? classic for the long winded psychoanalytic folks...
Interviewer, shut up.
Just make a question and let the guest answer. Your ramblings are exhausting!
Useful information for couples of all ages, and durations. Relationships that endure require work and patience. I always say open and honest - can it be learned? Only through trust.
This feels as if we've been dumped into the middle of a conversation between two men having a private conversation of an unknown topic. It lacks direction, meaning, and value.
Very insightful and informative and very interesting.
This was magnificent

Right before Satan and the fools who followed it and led by Satan into the war against God a final trumpet warning was sent to Satan and the 1/3 of the angels who followed they ignored the trumpet 🎺 the trumpet is a warning and when it blows it warning to be taken very seriously Starting today all seven trumpets will blow one time for each of the seven days and the trumpets all seven will blown in synchrony as the trumpets blow the false reality of Satans sheep his followers those who once again made the mistake twice everything will change around them the delusions will be shattered into dust particles
Masud Khan. What a disturbing and disturbed character. Ask some of his former patients. I'm American. I learned about him because I am a balletomane and the great Svetlana Beriosova was his wife.
In Learning from Experience Bion described the Container as “a mesh sleeve suffused with emotions” - closer to a receptive vagina than the hard container described by Phillips. Also people who knew Bion described a man of huge openness and warmth. This includes an elderly gentleman in a Norfolk village who described to me personally what a nice man he was. I like Phillip’s construction that Bion needed to be thoughtful in order not to hurt his patients but I feel intuitively that that was more of a construction on Phillip’s part, which he acknowledges. Actually listening to AP is like listening to Bion’s heir!
Thank you!❤️
This channel is great, super fresh. Really glad I stumbled across it

Social belonging? You mean like a fellowship where addicts get together for mutual support? If only someone would create such a thing......
This is biblical
Where in the bible?
Give me a fucking break. White people don’t waste any time thinking about you or any other race. The only group that is keeping racism alive is YOU. You are holding yourselves back. We’re all just trying to love our lives. You’re not special.

What would we do without Valerie Sinason! The books, the lectures, the utubes, all so helpful and explanatory. I learn so much.
Another excellent utube by Valerie Sinason. We need more!
Thank you Valerie Sinason for your work, for talking clearly about how to treat DID clients and also satanic ritual abuse survivors who become clients. There is a growing need for therapists to understand more, and you explain it well.
Thanks for uploading this wonderful video. I used to see Harry Karnac from time to time when I went into the bookshop that used to be on Gloucester Road, wonderful memories and I'm still reading many of the great books I purchased there. I'm not going to comment on Masud Khan as I literally wouldn't know what I was talking about if I did. I saw him once in I believe 1984 when he gave a presentation about Winnicott and psychoanalysis at a conference hall in Denmark Hill. He had to talk through a special device in his throat but he held the audience in the palm of his hand. I do look forward to reading Khan's biography based upon watching this great video.
michael, thank you for the comment. very interesting.
Also.. Labeling kids as "mental-emotional disorders" has a paradoxical effect of adversely impacting the child's healthy sense of self and self-esteem. These labels can also become their main sense of identity and create a great deal of shame. So I recommend going back and reading the high German philosophers and psychiatrists lke Hans-Georg Gadamer and Karl Jaspers about the dangers and paradoxes of labelling children in such fashion. These labels also serve to increase the commmodification of individuals for the profit of the pharmaceutical industry via the dualistic theoretical heremeneutics of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manuals of Mental Disorders. Karl Jaspers sometimes advocated for only labeling clients IN PRIVATE and not publically with the client. Labelling can be used to streamline client data and to coordinate and perform research amongst professional peers behind the scenes instead as a means of safeguarding the identity and self-esteem of the child. Relational adversity is not just a matter of a singular subjectivity or singular genetic disposition, but is also impacted by familial and labor environment, the subjectivity of the parents and family. "Subjects" are more like "hyper-objects" than singular entities with strict boundaries. Although boundaries must also be preserved to some extent in order to safeguard the integrity of the individual's rght to freedoms from rape and abuse and invasion. So there are the paradoxes rearing their ugly heads again, oh boy!
Please feel free to contact me about my book deal. Because this book idea I just summarized is extremely important if we are to survive the crises of ecological mega drought, the mass dualistic warring extremes of identity like those represented by the arguments of hyper-nihilists vs hyper-optimists (and the romanticists versus the progressivists), irresponsible "parenting", geopolitical gangsterism, transhumanism and the virus of disdain for intellectualism.
My family members are quasi-non-verbal and primitive emotional expressionists, because of the severe ritual abuse they endured at the hands of my sick military-intelligence criminal grandfather.
The left covered up the crimes of the right. Seth Abramson the leftist lawyer proved that the collusion between the Trump cartel, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, China, Turkey, Europe, was actually a reality, but the fake "alternative" and mainstream right and left wing media covered it up! Rachel Maddow covered up Katie Johnson's rape that happened when she was 13-years-old by Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. So this is a bi-partisan corruption. MAGA alt-right cultists like Alex Jones and alt-left cultists like Max Blumenthal are half-truthing criminals! The left and right are gangsters. Pretty simple once we realize this is a gangster planet and kids have no rights. It is legal for unintellectual simpletons and drug addicts to have children. That is just the truth.
Humans have to learn to talk about and address the paradoxes of taboos like these and the warnings of the postmodernists and Jacques Ellul and Jean Gebser and others. We are turning into machines and there is no stopping the AI-Megamachine. Deep politics and how our gangster planet is run by criminals is another taboo topic -- see Jeremy Rothe-Kushel and Greg McCarron's podcast 'The Antedote' and Gus Russo's books, historian-scholar Peter Dale Scott and Alfred McCoy. The criminal faux "alternative" and mainstream left and right media are yet more unspeakable taboo topics that "adults" never acknowledge or address. Also the fact that kids really have no rights. Heidegger -"we are thrown into this world" and if we have unintellectual or ritually abused/victimized "parents" then we will never be adequately prepared for this cutthroat, dualistic, game theory (win or lose) world of madness and brown-nosing partiality. Criminals, non-intellectuals and drug addicts are allowed to make babies. Alison McDowell, C.J.Cala, Lewis Mumford, Drew Hempel, Jeremy Rothe-Kushel all need to be read and listened to also.
Fantastic invitation - what a diverse group of people and opportunity to dive deep and leave with practical skills as well
...... a truly incredible book. Really.
Completely agree
This is a very good point, thank you for sharing.
BRILLANT!!!
Clear, thank you.
Clear as mud
@Vaughn Dutton, yes I agree...clear as mud, but I heard an NPR Ted Talk this afternoon, and one of the guys being interviewed talked about this book written by Jessica Benjamin----"The Doer and the Done To." He said that it helped him understand a different way to resolve conflicts, and I really, really, really want to learn more about that! He referenced Dolly Parton, and interviewed her abt how her concerts have EVERYBODY there despite such obvious differences and conflicts, and they seemingly get along... at least while they're in her concert! So...I'm going to trudge through this "mud" until I understand! Laughing.
What a thoughtful conversation, thank you.
Words without saying anything. Not very good.
Makes sense to me THANK YOU
Josh Cohen is thoughtful and intelligent, but we are here really for Adam Phillips. So, please, let the man talk more than you, Josh.
13:50 oh thank god someone’s been made aware of that. But it’s only the tip of a much more comprehensive iceberg. If you’ve grown up in an environment where there was absolutely nobody safe to be with, being in a room with any other person is never going to feel safe. And even being alone isn’t going to feel much safer because someone could walk in or phone or whatever something. I’ve never met a therapist who could fully comprehend that complete absolute absence of safety. At some point they will always blunder into expecting you to feel safe without dissociating.
Let go of the chains they were cut lose long ago
You treat history like a National Park. Leave it like you found it. You can not project modern morals into history, especially into a agrarian society. Modern historian's are influenced by their electrical/internal combustion privilege.
You think that you would want come into The 21st century and stop trying to complain about something that you were never part of. Get off of welfare and Drugs, stop destroying other people's property and once and for all stop complaining. It's sickening. Their are so many intelligent, successful black folks , your holding them down by your consent Complaining about the past that you never saw.
