Kids can't help themselves around water - The Sidekick
Will your child follow their older siblings anywhere, even if it's somewhere they're too young to go?
We know that toddlers are curious and unpredictable as they explore the world around them. It's what we love about them, but it's also what puts them at risk around water. This is why adults need to take steps to keep them safe.
This campaign from Royal Life Saving WA is reminding parents that kids can't help themselves around water. You need to.

Thanks so much this helped
Is this good for UK NPLQ from RLSS
Watch the children not your phone
Don’t lifeguards have to do it quickly
It depends on what other injuries they have. You go as slow as possible and as fast as necessary. Going fast can be a quick way to make a spinal injury worse.
They need to work quickly and slowly so yes and no
Hi Love you

Was wondering how mustache was treading water so smoothly! Then I saw he was sitting on the floatie lol.
This is super cool, but I've never once seen a public pool in America that has all that gear stocked.
All pools should have it
I volunteered as a lifeguard for a local city’s summer learn to swim program. Not only did we HAVE all that equipment IN STOCK, we had it easily accessible each and every time there were classes being held. We didn’t offer any “free swim/open swim” times. We held a weekly inservice and were regularly tested on our knowledge and skills. I also volunteer lifeguarded at a local camp that allowed groups to utilize the pool with advance notice so a lifeguard could be brought in. The campground had all of this equipment permanently stationed at the pool and had other medical resources available to be brought if necessary. If your local pool that has a lifeguard on duty does NOT have rescue equipment available to them, then SHAME ON THEM! As a lifeguard, I would never agree to work in a facility that was not properly equipped with the resources I need to properly carry out a rescue should an incident occur on my watch! This includes a phone to call emergency services, rescue tubes (at least 3), a spine board with straps and a head block, a pocket mask with filter for CPR, and ideally an AED.
I guess this is the way it was 6 years ago, however, second lifeguard does nothing to keep head and spine in a straight line by holding the head each side
Prevention-wise, I don’t understand how parents are able to get any necessary tasks done with no risk whatsoever, short of having one other person per child on hand at all times to stare unblinkingly at them!
;p1
Bro! Just put the tube under the victims legs! You just wanr a reason to touch her hips XDXD
Thank you for sharing
this doesnt happen in an instant. would have to be a matter of minutes. a kid underwater for 1 second wont drown
In ambient water, yes. But that’s because the heart keeps beating despite the blood losing oxygen, so carbon dioxide builds up but oxygen to vital organs decreases more slowly, until cardiac arrest occurs. In cold water the shock of water entering a tiny body can instantly stop the heart in many cases. It takes only 7 seconds of sustained cardiac arrest for brain death to begin to occur; by 30 seconds it’s almost invariably over.
Xxxx👀👀👀👀

wow, that's really in depth. Turn the regulator back off after the bleeding?
Nice work! Compressions are a bit too fast (slow down a bit so the heart fills up more). Don't be too agressive with the inflation (you will pump air in the stomach and venous return is diminished as well) place the knees a bit closer to the patient. Your back will thank you and you won't be leaning as much on the patient.
Knees back are actually recommended in some cases, since it means more of your body weight goes over the pt so it's easier to give compressions. I recommend it to my candidates, especially those who struggle physically.
@@connorokeefe269 if they struggle physically that much I very much doubt they will deadlift their upper body in that rythm for long.
@@anomalyp8584 well you’d be surprised. Sometimes candidates have troubles doing It for a long time and this helps them. I’m a first aid instructor and I can guarantee you that that tip has helped a lot of them meet the criteria.
@@connorokeefe269 interesting, why do they have trouble giving the compressions... Flexors being weaker than extensors
@@connorokeefe269 or they are cheating and push themselves off on the chest 🤣 In that case ...rip osteoporotic patients
Hi
This is probs the hardest manuver
Shouldn't it be that the chest strap must pass under the armpits?
If that oxygen cylinder had oxygen in it and he just left it like that standing up, I would fire him immediately because that’s plain irresponsible
and if your mother had wheels she'd be a bicycle.
the cylinder has oxygen in it i believe since there is flow. Good that you aren't the boss
@@anomalyp8584 Explosions are a potential risk with portable oxygen tanks if they are mishandled or dropped, posing a risk of serious and potentially life-threatening injury. Upon a certain degree of impact , the oxygen tank can ignite, causing an internal flash fire and causing the aluminum tank to burst. If that isn't handled carefully, it will explode. Standing it up could allow it to fall and potentially explode.
@@club6525 I know what you mean. It's just highly unlikely in this situation.
Compressions are too fast
Not sure why they did the demo in shallow water
because that’s where head on floor collisions happen!
@@MadCuzUBroke yes but a vice grip turn is purely for deep water spinal injuries. a shallow water spinal injury should use a head splint.
@@sarah-ko8xg vice can be in pretty much any depth. Head splint is when you can touch the bottom, yes, but vice only fails when it’s too shallow u can’t get underneath. Your lifeguard instructor might have taught it black and white to make it easier, but in reality it’s more nuanced.
This U tube although excellent the cracking technique needs to be upgraded to new safety standard Safety alert 04/2019 Safe use of medical oxygen cylinders
Get that woman an oscar
