CNDD-FDD Secretary General Visits BURUNDI GROW GREEN Agricultural Fields
On January 7, 2024, the Secretary General of the CNDD-FDD party, the Honorable Révérien Ndikuriyo, visited the potato and corn fields of BURUNDI GROW GREEN in various regions of Burundi. This visit reflects the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector, which is a cornerstone of the nation’s development.
The Secretary General first visited the Sakinyonga hill in Gasibe Zone, Matana Commune, where 7 hectares of potatoes and 8 hectares of corn are cultivated. He then proceeded to the nearby Bitezi hill in the same commune, where a 2-hectare potato field is managed. The visit concluded on Ruzibazi hill in Mukike Commune, where more than 5 hectares of potatoes are being grown.
The visit provided an opportunity for Honorable Ndikuriyo to address the importance of agricultural and livestock production in national development. He stressed that if the entire population is engaged in agriculture, food security and a steady supply of basic foodstuffs can be achieved. The Secretary General also praised BURUNDI GROW GREEN for its contribution to the national vision of achieving an emerging Burundi by 2040, followed by full development by 2060.
Ir Agronomist Mwajuma Ahmed, the General Director of BURUNDI GROW GREEN, expressed her satisfaction with the project’s progress, despite challenges such as heavy rainfall. She highlighted the company's significant role in providing full-time employment opportunities for agronomists, agricultural technicians, and seasonal workers. The project also serves as an example for local farmers, showing them how modern farming practices can increase productivity and make use of previously unused land.
The company’s work with formerly non-arable land showcases how agricultural innovation can overcome obstacles and contribute to the country's long-term growth.
