Japan vs All Blacks quick take

After starting like a house on fire, Japan dropped off and suffered a terrible first half. They rallied to fight back strongly in the second half and deny the All Blacks the freedom they'd enjoyed in the first half. Warner Dearns shone for the Japanese with his athleticism and never-say-die attitude, and Wallace Sititi was a standout for the All Blacks at eighthman. Scott Robertson won't be mak...

    I have never seen so many runs from players one way or another shrug off two or three (more?) tacklers The ABs were playing well. But how could so many different players tackling be fobbed off as though they lost their grip/ lost resolve and or were boys tackling men. Do you know if Japan has a dedicated coach for tackling or defence?

    • @CowboyRugby
      @CowboyRugby 9 днів тому

      @@richardgrant418 I was thinking the same thing. David Kidwell, a former league player and coach, is the current defence coach for Japan. He has some work to do. It was amazing how players were just falling off the All Blacks, 3 or 4 at a time. Japanese teams are usually renowned for their tackling.

      Great question. I was considering him, but I felt that the tour is too short for fringe players to get a look in, with only 3 matches. I think the squad will only be 36 players strong, and had to cut out quite a few players like Jordan Hendrikse, Edwill, Ben-Jason Dixon etc. A 5 game tour would have been much better. The Boks could have taken on Italy and Georgie maybe.

In the last 4 games they were red carded in two of them (and for significant periods of the matches too) and in the other two games they were playing away in South Africa. Pretty slim losing margins in 3 of those 4 games. As it stands the Springboks haven't beaten the All Blacks in NZ or at a neutral venue in a proper 15 vs 15 game for more than 2 years. Also what works for the boks won't necessarily work for NZ/ AUS , South Africa teams play in the URC now so they have no issue integrating players from european clubs into their set up...that won't be the case for euro players trying to join up with AUS/ NZ super rugby players.

    Clearly no try. Both clips are the same, just taken from different angles. And angles can make you see things that are not there.

    Tough one! Down to the on field decision. “No try” would require compelling evidence of a try to make overturn - which we don’t have here. “Try” would also require compelling evidence of no try to overturn - which we don’t have here. Given the on field decision ref made the right call.

    He is much better then Oscar performance winner faf de klerk. The Game is so slow with faf. I glad you see it, so many non analytic people are so loyal to the idea of faf. Has soon as you criticise, they melt down. Weird.
