Bugling elk, RMNP, Fall 2024
There's nothing to match the majestic sound of bugling elk echoing through the crisp mountain air in the fall. While camping at the headwaters of the Colorado River if Rocky Mountain National Park I heard this fellow in the distance. I hiked about a quarter mile up the valley and saw several cows, but no bull. He was laying in the grass with only his antlers exposed a first. The video is unsteady in places, as I was 100 yards away with a telephoto and regretted leaving my tripod in camp. Turn up the volume and enjoy! www.ewardwinning94.wordpress.com

RV hack for cleaning items that don't fit in the sink
Переглядів 372 години тому
Many RV sinks are too small to clean small stuff, and there could be any number of items from muddy shoes to fish guts on a cutting board you really don't want to wash in the sink or the bathroom. Here's a quick hint for a super easy way to wash them if you do a very minor upgrade to your unit. I'm going to start a series of short videos on stuff new RV owners need to know, and would rather lea...
tying the zebra midge fly
Переглядів 4714 днів тому
This is another super simple trout fly to tie. I demonstrate on a #10 hook just to be visible, but typical would be a 16, 18, 20, or even smaller hook, which also goes a lot faster because there's a lot less wrapping involved. On a smaller hook, I can tie one of these in a minute to 3 minutes. Recipe - nymph hook, appropriate size bead, thin copper wire, black fly-tying thread. Adjust colors of...
Fixing a Mossberg 500 safety that is too stiff to slide
Переглядів 18414 днів тому
Apparently this is a common problem, but my Mossberg 500 shotgun's safety button was so hard to slide I couldn't use it - not acceptable. Searching online, it's a simple solution, just loosen the screw that holds the safety button on, except that it's a non-removable screw. I found a very easy workaround to keep this otherwise great shotgun safe and useable. Now I can easily engage or disengage...
snake in the road, didn't appreciate my attempt to help him
Переглядів 68521 день тому
I had just finished hunting and saw this snake in the road. I wasn't even sure it was alive, but poked it with the barrel of my shotgun to urge it out of the road. From that point, there was NO doubt it was alive! I'm not sure we parted as friends, but neither of us was harmed in the encounter. www.ewardwinning94.wordpress.com

Replacing a defective laptop key

If you have a laptop key that is broken, loose, sticky, or whatever, it's really not that hard to replace. Watch this video to see how. I got my replacements at www.laptopkey.com. I have no affiliation with them, but they shipped promptly and had an exact match for what I needed. How to tie the mop fly
Переглядів 57Місяць тому
The mop fly is one of the simplest flies to tie, trout love them, and as I just proved this evening, so do sunfish and largemouth bass. They can immitate any number of larvae, grubs, caterpillars or other aquatic or terrestrial insects. Recipe - #12 jig hook (larger or smaller to preference), 3-5mm tungsten slotted bead, mop material, thread, and either dubbing or hackle. Mop material was tradi...

Easy rabbit or squirrel stew
Переглядів 712 місяці тому
Very easy but tasty recipe for making rabbit or squirrel stew. You could use any other meat if you prefer as well. You'll need - one rabbit or two squirrels worth of meat, cubed, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup flour, seasoned salt, black pepper (or any other seasonings you like), 3 large carrots peeled and cut up OR a half package of baby carrots, one large or several small potatoes, one medium or half...
Easy fried okra

A quick and easy recipe for making fried okra that is yummy enough to have just for a snack. I'd written about this on my blog earlier in the summer at ewardwinning94.wordpress.com/2024/05/23/garden-season/ but today I harvested my first okra of the season and cooked up a very tasty batch. If you're interested in the "clever cutter" I used, you can find those at amzn.to/4eIfV0s . Like below, an...

fledgling bluebirds
Переглядів 363 місяці тому
I've been watching my baby eastern bluebirds in their birdhouse for several weeks, and posting updates on my blog at www.ewardwinning94.wordpress.com. This evening I got home from fathers day dinner (seems fitting!) and saw heads bobbing in the hole. Several were pushing each other around trying to get to the hole. The dominant one was most of the way out several times. Mom came and fed them se...

My Mossberg shockwave is doing the same thing but only when I screw in my raptor grip and when I take it off it works fine weird I'm thinking the screw is pushing against the safety somehow

Thank you this helped so much. Based on this safety this is an unreliable gun. I have one that probably has 50 shots gone through and safety is not operable.

I prefer Surgeon’s shoe bow Shown on Grog Knots app Three differences to your knot It has two wraps in base knot Tied left over right And both bunny rabbit ear loops are tied right over left Also they don’t bring single strand through with bunny rabbit ears. If you had taken both single strands though with bunny rabbit ears, then you would have Berluti knot Berluti knot is beautiful, but care must be taken when untie is done. Sometimes the single strand can be captured in bunny rabbit ear when pulling single strand to untie Thank you for showing knot videos

Just tie a square knot instead of a bow knot, won’t come untied on its own, doesn’t leave a loop to get caught on stuff, and easy to undo when you’re ready. Right over left, left over right, done.

I see the cord is fraying due to excess stress from the knot when pulling to untie. Lots of strain on the cord when pulling to undo.

    • @ewardwinningoutdoors
      @ewardwinningoutdoors 9 місяців тому

The fraying is from the hook the laces go through, and these are actually heavy duty laces (don't remember the brand), that have outlasted two pairs of boots, so they've seen a lot of wear and tear - but it's not from the knot. No more stress on laces to untie this than any other knot, they just stay tied better.

this is almost the berlutti knot - 2 loops with both bunny ear and tail. in this video, the first loop he only slot in the bunny ear but excluded the tail, but 2nd loop is good.

  • @boxerfencer

Vaguely reminds me of the Berlutti knot, although i haven't used that in years.

    • @boxerfencer

Yeah, it's not a Parisian knot for sure. It's like a half standard knot mixed with half Berluti knot. Sometimes the Berluti knot is preceded with a double X, though. Congrats, I think you've developed your own knot. Ive got my own knot too derived from trying the Berluti, Parisian knots and experimentation, but I may try yours. Thanks

I've seen a similar double bite version, but it has one extra feature. I'm going to try both & see how I get on. I don't have big problems with by bow flapping open, but my wife gets it all the time, I'll try this on her boots.

Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it. I liked how you explained how to check the temperature on your skillet/griddle. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, what recipe for pancake batter do you use? And secondly, where did you purchase your flipper? Thank you very much.

    • @ewardwinningoutdoors
      @ewardwinningoutdoors 11 місяців тому

Great questions. I was just using generic pre-mixed batter from the grocery, Kroger all-purpose baking mix, that you just add egg and milk to. It has directions on the package how to use it for pancakes, waffles, biscuits, etc., each with a slightly different mix of what you add to it. I've used a number of others as well, and they all work fine. The flipper was from Walmart I believe, nothing super special.
