Before John Schneider and Tom Wopat had announced their 5-season boycott, Warner Bros. joined the Hanna-Barbera studio to produce an animated version of The Dukes of Hazzard. Work continued on the CBS-TV series despite the walk out, and when The Dukes, debuted on Saturday Morning as a 1982-83 mid-season replacement on February 5, 1983, it did so as the cartoon versions of Coy and Vance in the leads. The stories, narrated by Denver Pyle as Uncle Jesse, The first season took place during the period of the live-action series' temporary replacement of the original actors with similar characters,pitted the Duke boys and Daisy against Boss Hogg and Rosco in a road race around the world, with the fate of the Duke farm at stake. All of the cast members Good Ol’ Cousins Vance (Christopher Mayer) and Coy (Byron Cherry), Catherine Bach (Daisy), Denver Pyle (Uncle Jesse), Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg), and James Best (Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane) from the primetime showvoiced their cartoon counterparts, all provided the voices for their cartoon counterparts. Coltrane’s hound dog Flash was finally given a bark of his own by Frank Welker, who also did the honors for new addition Smokey the raccoon. Fences were mended later that year, and Bo and Luke rejoined the family both in live action and cartoon form, who embarked on adventures set in London, Paris, Venice, India, and other exotic locales. The series proved popular enough to be renewed for 2nd season, by which time Schneider and Wopat had resolved their dispute. Bo and Luke replaced Coy and Vance in season 2, episode 1 (14): "Boss O'Hogg and the Little People" after Tom and John simultaneously returned to the live series following the end of the dispute near the end of the 5fth season. This episode also featured a new introduction and voice over that reflected the change in characters, as they did on the original series, and The Dukes lasted another half-season before being canceled. Live-action co-stars Waylon Jennings (narrator/"balladeer"), Ben Jones (Cooter Davenport), Sonny Shroyer (Deputy Enos Strate), and Rick Hurst (Deputy Cletus Hogg) did not appear in this cartoon version. Jack Angel, Chris Anthony, Jered Barclay, Michael Bell, Susan Blu, Bill Callaway, Phil Charke, Peter Cullen, Keene Curtis, Jennifer Darling, Dick Erdman, Pat Fraley, Linda Gary, Joan Gerber, Gary Goren, Joy Gronic, Ernest Harada, Phil Hartman, Bob Holt, Arte Johnson, Stan Jones, Paul Kirby, Peter Leeds, Sherry Lynn, Ken Mars, Edie McClurg, Scott Menville, Larry Moss, Laurel Page, Pat Pinney, Henry Polic II, Tony Pope, Phil Proctor, Bob Ridgely, Neilson Ross, Mike Rye, Marilyn Schreffler, Hal Smith, John Stephenson, Janet Waldo, Frank Welker, and Alan Young provided additional voices on both 2 seasons. The DVD box set was released by Warner Bros. as part of their Hanna-Barbera Classics Collection in late 2010.
