I saw another video that mocked the “European style of war” on the frontier, yet when the natives give battle to an actually disciplined force fighting in the European-style, they get steamrolled.

Pretty sure that "Lord Charles Cornwallis" is incorrect. He was a peer, not just the heir of one, so his given name would precede his title.

Interesting to learn that it was George Washington who was the architect of the plan to deprive Native Americans of their lands. They don't teach you this at school !

I play golf about a mile from Hardin's skirmish. He was ambushed as he crossed the Eel River. The natives were hiding in the heavy brush along the river.

That was very good but why, in the illustrations, does it seem the British are wearing mostly blue coats? I liked hearing about the composition of the French force. I had always thought it was entirely regular troops. My understanding is that this battle established once and for all the tactical doctrine of fire by volley over fire at will.

Somehow the Ferguson Rifle (designed by the Ferguson commanding the British side) was forgotten in the video. Some loyalist troops were equipped with the new BREECHLOADING Ferguson rifle. It was a potential replacement for the smoothbore muzzle-loader Brown Bess of the British Army. Like the American Pennsylvania rifle, the weapon was very accurate and enabled the use of sharpshooters on a battlefield. It had the added advantage over the Pennsylvania (later called the Kentucky) rifle in being a breechloader, and capable of a rate of fire of 6 shots per minute by a trained soldier. This revolutionary rifle design died with Ferguson in his defeat. Adoption of the rifle by the British Army would have changed history. A side note: Some locals claim that the reason the Brits lost was that they had to fire downhill, and when they took aim the musket balls rolled out of their muskets. Not likely, but...

I forgot to add that wounded Loyalist that were too injured to walk were left to die on the Mountain.

I lived in Forrest City, NC, located in Rutherford County for several years. The Kings Mountain Battle ended in Rutherford County, NC. The prisoners from the KM Battle were marched onto Biggerstaff land (A name well known in the county) located in the Sunshine Community. There the patriots began a series of kangaroo courts convicting several dozen Loyalist of treason. They then started hanging them one by one. I believe they managed to hang 8 or 9 until Issac Shelby showed up and put a stop to the proceedings. There were 2 Biggerstaff brothers involved in the Revolution. At the time of the Battle, Benjamin was rotting in a British prison ship of the coast of SC while his Loyalist brother, Aaron died on Kings Mountain. The war in the Southern colonies resembled a civil war. It really was a war of brother against brother. There were attrocities committed on both sides with lynching, tar and feathering, shootings and beatings being the order of the day. 😮😢

That was very interesting. The casualties in Ferguson's command surprised me. I had always understood that the Patriots refused to accept surrender in retaliation for Tarleton's massacre at the Battle of the Waxhaws and that virtually all of the Loyalists were killed. It's good to know that wasn't the case. What happened to the prisoners though? Being way out there on the frontier and not in contact with the regular armies, I don't see how they could have been marched to a prison camp. Anyway, liked and subscribed. I am your 50th subscriber-good job on the video. I like the style. However, make your videos a few seconds longer with fading music after the last word is spoken. This video had a very abrupt ending to an otherwise excellent video.

The bottom line is that, unfortunately, you couldn’t let stone age people control two huge continents. However, that doesn’t excuse the way the natives were treated over the years.

Most people within the US won't know about this. As you said, this defeat forced the US to redo its army. It also helps make President Washington's decision to keep the US neutral and out of the French Revolutionary Wars which began in early 1792. A wise decision on his part. The US loses a lot of men at Wabash in 1791. 1000 or so men killed. The numbers involved in the French Revolutionary Wars were gigantic compared to what the US was doing even within North America. In addition, that war would get even larger, messier as it transitions into the Napoleonic Wars. I bring this up because there were a bunch of Americans that wanted to help Revolutionary France. The French after all helped the Americans in their war of independence from Britain. But the US military was not in a good state as shown at the Battle of Wabash. Hell, for most of American history, the armed forces were pretty deplorable, especially in this stage of the country's history. A large standing army in peace time is actually not the norm for the US. It's a recent, post-WWII thing.

Kinda makes you realize what the British forces were up against in the revolution war...yet they managed to hang on for what....ten years give or take against insurmountable odds....
