Here you won't get the majestic cinematography, the camping glam shots, the fancy meal shots, videos that make camping and fishing seem easy and relaxing. No, here you will see footage of the highs, lows, sometimes crappy footage of my experiences, because it's not all glory and fun. Sometimes it down right sucks and so does the footage. But it will be real and you will experience what I am experiencing. Hope you enjoy it and if you do, please Subscribe, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hunting BLACK BEAR on Crown Land - E1
Hunting BLACK BEAR on Crown Land - E1
Most hunting videos are successful, scripted, directed, or on a managed plot. Quite often, the Public or Crown Land has been scouted to ensure the video's success. I'm not knocking those videos. I WATCH THEM! And if I had the time and the money, I would do the same.
My friends and I will be hunting Public / Crown Land this fall and I am going to turn it into a series of videos. And there will not be any B-ROLL, we will show you all the Pros and Cons of hunting Crown Land in Ontario.
In this episode, we are on our first Bear hunt of the year on a large piece of Crown Land in the Haliburton Highlands. We have been baiting these two sites for a month. I decided to create this series and film this hunt at the last minute. I wasn't quite prepared with all my recording equipment, so this one is just shot on my phone. Nor were we prepared for how busy this spot was going to be.
As I said at the beginning of the video, I will be incorporating my hunts on this channel. I will be hunting Bear, Deer, Turkey, and some small game.

@newcaloutdoors505 thank you for watching 🙏
Them dang ATVs lol
@Uhdeonthefly bro .. on a trail that's been pretty much abandoned for years lol fml
Nice watch. Thanks ❤❤❤
@@EventyrsorenDenmark Thank you 🙏
People who are in the tree business and concerned about trees and their health support a rule that says, you don’t’ spike climb a tree unless you are going to cut it down! The spike holes can introduce insects and disease into the trees cambium and on to the whole tree. This product and its use is dangerous to the tree the human!
It looks like the old memorial Cross is gone from the little island at the beginning of the chouts
The cross is still there! We visited it in the spring. I've paddled by that island at least 20 times over the years and this was the first time I saw it. I am going to run the river solo next spring, I will be sure to include it in the video. Thank you for watching.
@@robintheoutside I was looking for some history of the cross but can't seem to find anything. I use to live on the moon river when I was 14 15 years old now I'm 50 I used to canoe a lot down the choots fish of that island with the cross and all around that area it's a beautiful place
@otis9909 that whole river is beautiful!! I'll do some research before I leave in the spring and make sure I include it in the video!
At the beginning of your video on the dock are you facing Kimberly island ?
@@otis9909 No, we were right at the falls in Bala. But I paddle by Kimberley Island quite a bit.
The spurs are probably fine.. that saddle and lanyard look terrible. Petzel makes a $200 saddle . A rock climbing harness would be safer some of those are like $50. The problem with what you have there is that it has no leg straps and D ring. If you put all your weight on that strap without having your gaffs in the tree it's going to suck, forget about what happens if you gaffout and don't have a second choking line hooked up. You will slide all the way to the ground.
I fully agree with you! I'm not a professional climber, hell I'm not even an amateur and these are the cheapest for a reason. I've used them twice and was under 18 feet off the ground. I don't use them anymore lol
The orange strap is meant to go through the ring on the door rest of the spur and around the boot like you have it. Throw that carbineer away and get a proper climbing carbineer. They're only about $10.
I'm an Eagle Scout, and as I watched you try to make that fire I thought, "This man needs what I always used in the Boy Scouts: A lighter." 😂 Then I see that you had one in your pocket. It was a good effort, Rob. You almost had it. Great camping video. Venison looked good.
Thanks brother! And yeah, glad I decided to bring a lighter lol
I am really glad I found your video. Normally, you only see the successful attempts, but rarely do you see the grind. My first success with the bow drill took 6 hours and 3 different variations of wood. It was August in Florida, so it was exhausting. The tip that worked for me was using some pine pitch between the baring block and the spindle. Also, spindle length and width. The wood that worked for my was cypress spindle and harthboard and pine baring block. The second time I got the bow drill to work to about 45 minutes and 40 minutes of that was carving the set.
@@christopherhill1678 Very true. I had a whole concept in mind for the video and when it didn't work out, I thought "even better" because a lot of people think it's super easy. I got some really good advice from DJ (@thebearessentials) to use Cedar on Cedar and my friend Matt said to use pine pitch on the spindle for grip and to wipe "nose sweat" on the top of the spindle. So next time I'm out I'm going to give both a try! Thank you for watching and for the comment.
@robintheoutside I will subscribe for sure, please be sure to post the next attempt. I would really like to see you get it.
@@christopherhill1678 Thank you very much! And I will have a new attempt up in a couple of weeks!
Nice video, great effort on the bow drill practice makes perfect. Nice watch with a cup of coffee in the morning.😎👍🏽
@@godsbackcountryoverland Thank you, wish I hadn't "given up" though. Thank you for watching 🙏
You did Better then i would of. I would of got in the canoe and flipped it and probably burnt the canoe. True Story
@@denisdespot9527 haha that's hilarious! Thanks for watching brother!
That was a really nice watch. This is what i love a great time in the beautiful outdoor ❤
Thank you very much! And I agree, it is my favorite place to be.
Love persistence on the bow drill. More patience than I would have had. Food definitely hits different when you harvest it yourself. Shank looks awesome. Can’t wait to cook a meal together around a fire. 🔥
@@CAMP_KITCH thanks Tyler! And yes, we need to put a plan in motion for sure!!
Being dehydrated really sucks. It takes everything out of you. Nice effort on the bowdrill. It's definitely not an easy way to start a fire, but it's a good skill to have. I gotta give it a shot again. I've only tried once, failed miserably lol. Food looked great, by the way! Nice video, thanks for sharing!
@@AlansOutdoorAdventures thank you very much 🙏 and yeah, in the moment I didn't realize how dehydrated I became or how long I'd been in the sun paddling and running around. But when I woke up the next morning I sure felt it!
Dude! I would have done the first 3 or 4 tries with the bow drill, then it would have been lighter time!! Thanks for the video & glad you got out.
Haha .. it's amazing how quickly motor skills, thought process and decision making deteriorate when you get heatstroke and are dehydrated! Thank you for watching 🙏
like the video! I need to get me a canoe.
Thank you! My canoe was one of the best investments I've ever made. Couldn't imaging not being in one now!
“I’m not stalking anybody…” Best intro ever. I just got offered to do a review on these on my channel so I was checking around to see if they were lousy or good before I said yes or no. Thanks for making me laugh in the intro. 😂 Ohhh. And now that I’ve finished the video you easily have the best video I’ve seen yet and I’m going to tell the company “yes”. Thanks bud. 👍 You also got a subscriber out of it too.
haha Glad I could make you laugh! I'm pretty excited to try these out night fishing for Brown Trout. I'm headed to Algonquin this afternoon and purposely planned the trip so I had a lake and portage to cross late at night. I'll let you know how it goes! thank you for watching and the Sub, I've subbed back.
@@robintheoutside I’m going to use them for short night fishing trips from the bank and my kayak, and I’m DEFINITELY using them on the way to my deer stand in the mornings in November. 👍
Have you tried looking up at the stars with them?
Not yet, but I'm heading up north tomorrow on a 4 day adventure and bringing the goggles with me. I'll be using them to paddle and portage, so I'll definitely try that and be recording it.
@@robintheoutside cool, was just wondering, when I was in the army sometimes I would check out the stars with my NVGs it was pretty mind blowing.
I would have bought it but Paypal limited the sellers account due to high risk and unsatisfactory client feedback.
That's strange. I just messaged them about this. If you send me an email I will get you in contact with them. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and thank you for watching!
@@robintheoutside where do I find your mail?
@@OliverBerger it's listed on my about page.
@@robintheoutside yep, wasn't accessible on mobile ... got it.
sent you an email
You mean being a dude is not enough of an excuse to buy cool shit?
lmao .. yes, yes it is.
All active (IR illuminated) or passive also (no IR illumination) ?
It has both. They will work as regular binoculars and with the push of a button they change to IR with seven different lighting levels.
@robintheoutside so, no night vision by light amplification only. I was asking because IR illumination gives away your position at night.
@@thomasrisner there is no illumination that would give you away.
@@robintheoutside there is actually, Infrared (IR) isnt visible for the human eye, but for someone with a pair of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) you are like a light beacon walking through the terrain.
@@yacinovic_rasputin if he was asking from a War Games perspective, yes you would be. But I doubt I have to worry that a Deer, Bear, Moose, Elk or Brown Trout will be sporting a pair of NVG's .. although a couple of them can see very well in the dark!
Love the intro. Short and sweet. Thanks for the heads up on this unit. I just may pick one up. Subscribed.
They're a pretty good recreational unit, especially for the price. Thank you for watching and subscribing. Greatly appreciated!
That is so cool 😊
I used them the other night in my kayak. It was a little creepy at first, but once I got used to it it was a lot of fun!
Baguss
How do the spikes work in a dead tree with a harder wood surface?
Haven't tried climbing a dead tree, but I'm pretty sure if you kept the tips sharp they'd work ok.
Trip to remember for sure! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Tyler. We're going to have to get out soon!
@@robintheoutside would love that! 🔥
Nice fish on the fly bud!! It's the only way to catch em 🤟
Thanks brother! I love fly fishing, wish I had got into it earlier. Thank you for watching.
Sweet Laker!! Tasty looking haul all around.
Thank you! We ate pretty well on this trip lol
@@robintheoutside No kidding!! :)
Looks amazing. 😊
We had an absolutely amazing trip! Thank you for watching 🙏
Hmmm wonder if this would work for my needs. Someone keeps stealing my tree stand ladders and then uses my ladders to hunt my stands and takes the ladder with them after they are done. Stands are a minimum of 20 feet up a tree. Was thinking of going up getting my stands and moving them even higher so the ladders are useless. Im not sure if this would work with all the limbs on the tree too. Im a big guy though about 400 pounds. Either way im in the market for gear if you got any recommendations. Some of the trees are small about the size you climbed to trees as big around as you.
You'd have to cut the limbs for sure and the harness that came with it barely fit me. But putting your stand higher and then using climbing gear to get them would definitely be something I'd look into!
@@robintheoutside hmm do they make harnesses for guys like me?
@@kingdarkem If you are looking for a trustworthy harness, I would contact a local arborist and ask where they purchase their harnesses. I'm not sure I would trust buying a proper harness without trying it on first.
@@robintheoutside alrighty will do. Thanks for letting me pick your brain.
It’s good to hear that you’ve got that deeded access to the property. I like that stove. It looks very practical. Have a great rest of your week, Rob.✌️
Thanks brother. It is a relief, we always knew we did. It was just a matter of digging up paperwork from 1924 to 2006 proving it. And the fact that local law enforcement has been on our side instead of not wanting to get involved has been a huge help. Very grateful. As for the stove, I really do like it. Thanks for watching :)

The weather has been beautiful up here, it's crazy! And I was impressed with the stove. Thanks for watching guys!!!!
The stove looks really good and useful 😊😊😊
I very much enjoyed it, thank you for watching 🙏
Rob, thank you so much for taking our stove out for a field test. It’s surreal to sit behind the screen and watch someone use my stove outdoors. I can’t think of a better person to test it and provide real feedback. We appreciate your hard work and I look forward to sharing and cooking a meal with you real soon 🔥🙏
It was absolutely my pleasure! Very grateful to be considered to test your prototype and looking forward to getting together for a weekend of camping and cooking!
That stove looks neat; I am already thinking of different meals on it. I'm glad to hear things are working out with your neighbor. Cheers.
I used it quite a few times over the weekend and really enjoyed it! And thanks, I'm heading up this week to serve them with papers and cut the locks. I've already informed local law enforcement and the By-Law office and gave them a copy of the paperwork as well. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video
Thank you Dave! Your support is always greatly appreciated.
Wow, you are so fortunate to have a place like this; it's like a time capsule. You may have so many memories. I hope you are able to sort it out with your neighbor. I am currently reading your 15 Day trip. Cheers ✌
That is awesome, thank you! And yes, we are very fortunate to have this in the family. As for the neighbors, after going through some paperwork, it looks like we have deeded access. So now it is just a matter of informing them that they have to take the gate down. thank you very much for watching ... and reading :)
amazing.....the cottage is your own time capsule.....impressive that it is in such great shape for being "alone" for two decades..peace and groovy vibes
Thanks brother! I was blown away that the original half of the cottage was still standing and in such great shape. Looks like most of the work will be on the roof, the wood stove, and the yard. Excited to get it started. Thanks for watching.
Very cool! I've been to lots of friends different cottages and camps but my family sadly never had one growing up. I wish I had. Now I dream of hopefully having a peace of land to live and retire on one day away from town life. Thanks for bringing us along down your memory lane.
You're welcome and thank you for watching 🙏
It's quite an emotional journey. Gave up on a small piece of property myself. It was just too hard on me to continue. Had been in the family for generations. Hope you are able to come to some better terms for its continued use. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
That it was. I'm positive that after what I felt while being there, there is no doubt in my mind that we are going to get it back in shape. It may take a while to straighten up the road access dilemma, but I've already spoken to the Township about a contingency plan. Thank you very much for watching.
Walking through memories. I thoroughly enjoyed watching, Rob. Thanks for sharing!✌️
Thank you very much and yeah, there was a wave of memories that started right on the trail before I even got to the cottage! Thank you for watching.

Thanks Dave. I'm hopeful that it will work out. I'm looking forward to fixing it up and sharing it with everyone! And the memories, jesus, what a wave of emotions walking through that door! Thank you for watching.
So much snow you got 😊😊

I'd like to hear about the Moon River! I had a short trip there once...wasn't the greatest trip
We ran the Moon River back in 2022. Absolutely fell in love with it. We were going to paddle down Georgian Bay, but Sabrina cracked a molar and we pulled out at 12 Mile Bay! Thank you for watching.
Well we tried to run the river backwards! It was actually dangerous.. my friend was alot older than me..I was actually concerned that he was going to have a heart attack...maybe that's part of tge reason why I stick to lake paddling..plus I don't like portaging! Haha! I repeat that point when I'm on Canoehound s show on Tuesday nites! Haha!
@@lipsticklodge7526 haha ya portaging sucks. And running the Moon upstream would be really rough!
@robintheoutside we found the spot in Kevin Callans book I think where the drunk Japanese visitors drowned 1 nite.... I live very close to Mikisew Park and Eagle Lake..closest to Round Lake of the northwestern arm of Algonquin park
Must have been a tiring walk in those snowshoes!
Very lol but well worth it!
Looked like a great camping trip. Great song selection too. 👌👌👍👍
I absolutely love the Moon River. I think it's one of the most beautiful and underrated trips in Muskoka and that first song (The River's gonna cry when you're gone) just pulls at my heart. Thank you for watching!
Never boil chaga. It destroys the medicinal compounds. Simmer, always. Just simmer. Lower the heat BEFORE it boils. Excellent video!
Such a beautiful place. Great video. Fish on! Looking forward to the next one. 🎣 👏
It really is a beautiful place. Thank you for watching, very appreciated!
Thank you so much for this. Great video! I learned so much from you. One problem I did have - when a friend gave me some Chaga - I kept it in a plastic bag bag and ended up losing about six really nice chunks to mold, of course… The mold was on the most valuable part of the Chaga, the black part. 😢, have you ever had that problem? 🥲 someone suggested I stored it in a paper bag. Do you think that would work? Or is it just down to not drawing it enough - obviously that would be the problem?
Thank you so much for the kind words and watching the video. We haven't had a mold problem. If you harvest or receive wet Chaga the best way to dry it is at room temperature out in the open on brown paper towel underneath and covered with brown paper towel for 7-10 days. BEFORE it dries pull or scrape any foreign things like insect, debris and bark from your pieces. Last winter we harvested a piece that weighed almost 10lbs wet off the tree. We brought it home and sat it on the kitchen counter (with the beige side exposed) on brown paper towel for several weeks. We then cut off a small piece to use and then put the remainder in a glass container with a silica pack to keep dust, moisture and anything else off of it and stored it in a cupboard until we needed it again. I would suggest NOT putting it in any bags as they will keep the moisture in the bag creating the perfect environment for mold to grow. If you have any other questions feel free to email us and we would gladly help you as best as we can.
That old chuck wagon is so cool
Yeah, that was pretty wild to find. It was unbelievable some of the things we found and experienced on this trip! Thank you for watching.
@@robintheoutside I wish it was open for fishing in the cooler months lol you just know it gets steelhead runs
