I watch this video and yeah I sort of agree with the people in the comment section do you describe a is basically mod packs of lacks luster not the actual mods. I definitely do see where this videos coming from.

It just bothered me how (at least the older mashups) used wool for certain blocks so a red wool (just an example I don’t recall if it was the red one) will be a wall with a little window in the Skyrim mashup.

I play a lot of tech mods or ethemed packs. dont relay do vinilla plus sort omod packs. I lie th more out there things like Create mod or such.

I reccomend Mekanism to cure the empy void

Im trying to move to recent versions from 1.12.2 and im having quite trouble to adjust my game play from what i had in that version (actually trying to adjust to 1.20.1), at least some modes got good updates while other sadly died in 1.12.2 version...

the all the mods packs have tech and magic and many things in them and are very very popular, but the individual mods in them arent anywhere near as popular which is weird

I think it’s also the fact that Minecraft lost its simplicity in a way. I feel like Minecraft’s art style changes may have made it do that people don’t think that the more outlandish style of mods would fit. It honestly sucks since I’ve always thought of Minecraft as something that could fit a variety of settings and worlds, but now the game feels like it’s stuck in the same fantasy look for the most part.

I think its both of the new versions having alot to do ( me personally not really compaired to alot of mods) but it also comes down to jsut scale personally i feel more like as the game has progressed twilight forest and other dimension mods depending how they are in the pack feel alot like vanilla + ( i mean more so twilight forest than advent of assention). then we got tech mods still going crazy like create, mekanisims, thermal, applied and stuff like that. but i feel like the main thing why you dont see alot of the crazy stuff in alot of the new packs is ... well the amount of time to work on those packs is time consuming and getting it to work and fix the patching also takes time. tbh i dont think i ever seen advent in any mod pack then we also have to look at peoples hardware witch is also a factor when playing mod packs some crazy mods are absolutely huge af while some of the newer mod packs are in most places... smaller. like me i like having crazy stuff in my minecraft but i also like some quality of life mods but the only real crazy stuff i see is either with adventure type mods ( witch are slowly fading out alot fo the crazy stuff), magic mods witch is still crazy depending on the mod, weapon mods like spartan weapony, age of weapons. then we got mob mods like i love lycanits mobs but he wasnt updated it to 1.20 yet . still waitting on tinkers. but like you said and i agree with its times everything feels like vanilla + without all the over the top things like i love vanilla+ mods and i like over the top mods but it feels like everything is jsut becoming vanilla+ and less over the top. (me personally i gotta have my advent, grimore of gaia, mekanisms, mystical agriculture, weapon and mob mods, biomes o plenty and oh the biomes youll go with most of yungs) i like being able to build a village with mca reborn or minecolonies ( waitting on acient warefare).

This is abit off topic but I think it takes more than pretty Minecraft looking textures and non overpowered mechanics to make a really good vanilla + mod You need to know a whole lot about the rules and personal philosophy behind Minecraft’s game design. You need to make sure the features aren’t redundant, whilst yes. Lots of vanilla + mods extend aspects of the existing game, there’s many out there that add completely new things. I personally enjoy vanilla plus mods, however I can see how one may be happy that it’s most mods in current Minecraft, I guess it’s mainly about just the nature of things through time, things change I guess

Heh, i still have a .minecraft foldder for 1.12.2 with nearly 100 mods. You just convinced me to recreate my 1.7.10 folder which sadly got lost to time.

I feel it too. That's why i usually bounce around between 1.7.10 and 1.12. I do have a 1.18.2 version with Autoterrafirmacraft but idk i just like my tech mods more.

1.4.7 modded Minecraft is still the best in my opinion

I think one of the bigger things i haven't seen mentioned is how the minecraft community has changed. Back then minecraft was super new and it was like a kids sandbox they could do anything in. But now all those kids have grown up and what they want from minecraft has changed. Before becoming an unkillable god was the coolest thing possible but now i think certain people prefer doing simple things and getting immersed in the world

i remember launching old mod pack for the first time was always super overwhelmung experience, you load into world, you instantly get to see unknown dungeons, weird mobs, broken modded chunks. Progressing into all of them opened new interesting things, you syddenly realize you can make multi block ships, or that you can have farm completly automated by minecarts, or that there is like 12 otger dimentions you are yet to explore These days its just combining create with some basic tech mods finished with projectE/draconic evolution based end game its just boring

The most recent modpack to break this sameness was Deceased craft. The takeaway is that packs used to be built more like adventure maps where they would create a story/ scenario that was different and unique, using mods to achieve this. I think a big part of this sameness for me is Villagers since village and pillage. They are so overpowered that they make the game loop the same and remove the sense of achievement in getting from point A to point B, where they do work well is in a Sky block type scenario where there is sufficient challenge to get this. They basically make end cities redundant apart from skulker shells and the Elytra. They also crashed the value of the mending villager, I think the villager changes they are making are a step in the right direction. If you value the work it takes to get end game tools then mods that changed this game loop previously made sense and were quite rewarding and different. Its for this reason that I just made with my friend a Vanilla plus that changes the experience slightly with different terrain gen while addressing the villager issues using mods to fix this . This should make the game play loop more interesting since using villager will take, with the tweaks, a similar amount of work as before minus the amount of time villager breeders take to use. Not even 1.7.10 villagers were as broken as they currently are it took ages to unlock trades from the blacksmith and there was no discounts and emeralds were hard to get. It should balance out nicely with the custom more modded older version I play with IC2 Classic, mek and create and AE2 which are a massive QOL for big structures.

Right off the bat old mods don't fit Minecraft and the reason vanilla plus is popular is because people want MINECRAFT. Not gmod

i feel like minecraft mods started going abit down hill after Orespawn dissapeard. if anyone knows anyway i can still play it. please let me know even if its an older minecraft version i really do not mind. i used to Love Orespawn but growing up i drifted away from minecraft for games like Rust. now me and the boys wanting to take our yearly 2-3 week minecraft time and all of us are super nostalgic about specificly Orespawn. but if i understood everything correctly the creator of that mod pretty much fliped and has removed it from literally everywhere.

Honestly I think it’s a good thing that mods are going the vanilla plus route as the modern style of modding creates a more cohesive product and experience, I did enjoy the heyday of modding but a lot of those mods just feel completely out of place and make it so it feels like I’m not playing minecraft, where as newer mods compliment the game by adhering to its art style and theming. If you like the old style of mods, that’s fine and when I was a kid playing playing 1.6.4 and 1.7.10 I loved those kinds of mods too but now that I’m an adult I prefer the vanilla plus style with its more coherent game play elements and aesthetic. Edit: I’ve just finished the video, I agree with the notion that minecraft suffers from lack of ambition and scope, not just in modern modding but even amount the game devs nowadays. I think both modders and the game devs should broaden the scope of their projects to however I do (as stated previously) believe in holding to a cohesive aesthetic. A great example of this is the create mod it’s got all the progression of the old tech mods but it also holds true to minecrafts aesthetic and I don’t think it would look all that out of place as an update in 5-10 years if the minecraft devs held to their pace and ambition that they had from aquatic through to the villager update through to the nether update but unfortunately faded moving through caves and cliffs up to the current version.

Recently started an ATM1 world after not rlly playing modded since the 1.12/1.7 days and I’ve been having a great time like it has all my favorite mods in here and then some new stuff
