This type of presentation should also be shared with community stakeholders so they understand and prepare when KState faculty reach out to continue or expand their engage scholarship practices.

Have you finally grasped the concepts of moment and shear diagrams? Do you now understand the distribution of shear stress? Or are you still relying on Mustaque Hossain for guidance? I've heard that he is leading a difficult life there :)

Thanks for this. I have an "async" class -- an introduction to ERP (business) computer systems using a particular system as the working/practice example -- and that the class is 100% pre-recorded and on-line in Campus. Ben Ward helped me build it back in 2019-2020. That material includes text, PowerPoints, live computer practice system interaction, some professional pre-built vocational (computer system training), optional extra materials/links, and a fair amount of recorded video "talk-over" of key PowerPoints and the live system pracgtice. but I offer an optional Tuesday night 1 hour "coaching call" via Zoom. This is helpful in reviewing the live system practice, the term paper assignment, and the final (essay) exam. I post a recap of the call, a replay of the call, and an on-going "life to date" summary of past calls (sequenced by numbered/ordered lesson plan). With all of that said, I get 2-4 students (out of 14-15) on the weekly calls, but rarely with camera on. However, I try to engage them with questions, and there is two-way discussion. I also find some students watch the replays when it's best for their own time/schedule, and get feedback that these are helpful. I don't use a "discussion" board, but could try it. No student has ever posted to it. I do use "Announcements" to help with the course 'cadence' which is also marked by weekly on-line quizzes that open weekly according to the calendar to keep the material moving forward. I also use Speed Grader a great deal to give extensive feedback on their term paper topic submissions, the term papers themselves, and the final exam. People have expressed real appreciation for this. It was helpful to listen to your talk, and especially the Q&A portion. The class is MNGT 867 ZA, aka Enterprise Info Syst (14799). My supervising faculty member is Roger McHaney, as I'm a remote, part-time instructor, retired from industry -- Joel Schipper, aka Joel26@ksu.edu

My favorite takeaway: Inclusive teaching makes clear the amount of rigor of the course and the pathway for students to understand the rigorous material.

Insofar as my name was invoked for a minute or so in the last half of this video recording of an online TLC professional development session, I feel it necessary to correct the record by refuting the misinformation that was presented with regard to my teaching strategies for engaging students. While it is true that my courses are rigorous, that rigor hasn't prevented the vast majority of my students from excelling in their coursework. Second, I do NOT play commercials as "preambles" to the start of each class session; I play musical selections -- a different tune for each lecture that sets a mood that accords thematically with the content for each particular session. Next, I have never barred students from entering the classroom late. Finally, I do not (except on rare, rare, rare occasion) entertain announcements by other individuals, including representatives of student groups, but instead will myself make announcements at the start of class only as they pertain to course deadlines, class mechanics or policies and procedures, and reminders of the most important College or University notices.
