In Vietnam everything that grows is referred to as “trees” so you go to the tree shop which is actually a plant/landscaping shop. We bought a sh_t ton of plants/dirt etc. Process for everything in America oh maybe $1000 , Vietnam price $200 bucks.

LOL great rant. I agree 100%. I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses your rants on Twitchy, Eli, White Monkey Syndicate, and the other losers.
I can't believe Daiken is more expensive than Panasonic. I had a bad experience with a new Daiken unit. Servicing from the dealer was bad too. I don't know about Panasonic ACs, but the Panasonic name is quality. I'll go with Panasonic in the future. Daiken is so overrated. I'd go with a matching rail. Makes the house look nicer from the street. You gotta have a barrier!
Thanks !! I understand, I’ll have to throw up the railing. Makes too much sense from several perspectives. Yeah, I’ll see how this Panasonic performs, that’s a pretty open space it has to cool down. We’re thinking of some sort of decorative partitions and the ceiling fan…once it gets installed well help a bit. Now I know to a degree why they make tiny narrow homes here customarily, energy efficiency due to the high cost of living for the locals - maybe.
Hoi An should have its UNESCO status pulled. The river area is now much worse than Benh Thanh market. You get harassed every few steps by people asking you for massage. All massage parlors there now. I'll never go back there. Totally ruined. Viets do not understand or care about sustainable tourism. They just tap out the areas with no regard for preserving the area or its reputation. So sad. It's happened to Ha Long Bay, Sapa, Phu Quoc all ruined, all trashed. They need to fix this issue.
@@user-kt9zs Bingo. Your comment just made my day. I have been speaking recently to friends back home about this very thing. The UNESCO Ha Long is now a cesspool. Believe it or not a representative big wig from UNESCO was just here a few weeks ago and didn’t even address or mention the issue or UNESCO site awareness. Instead they congratulated Vietnam on its stewardship. What a joke. Essentially UNESCO is a BS liberal idiot arm of probably the U.N. and they can kiss my backside. But my friend you’re correct on two counts which is why I posted the vlog. Hoi An is now ruined and a tourist trap and no longer any kind of authentic. The Vietnamese here have gone koo koo for Cocoa Puffs (aka $$) everyone’s trying some sort of business scheme to grab a tourist buck from driver to portable sunglasses seller and everything in between you can think of, so they’re all running around like madmen. It’s sad to witness what’s happened here which of course motivated us to GTFOH and seriously move to a non-tourist, non-western foreigner authentic arena. Aka “the country.” Population here is 100 million and they have received the equivalent of 1/5th of the population in tourists this year. Thats insane and now the country is inundated with tourists and the madness of tourism. I’ve been reading where some places in Europe, Italy, Spain and Greece are actually banning tourism now it’s gotten so bad for them. Post Covid for some reason, even with Bidenflation and Global inflation lot of western nitwits for whatever reason think spending precious money on travel makes sense. It boggles the mind.
Those big trees are pretty damn expensive.
@@user-kt9zs Mmm matter of opinion. These aren’t plants you buy at Home Depot, these are pieces of art and here pricing isn’t as serious of course. My guess would be somewhere in the $300-$500 range which includes them hauling the humongous weight of it and placing it exactly where you want it in your yard space with a mini crane. In America? Quadruple that price then double it. don’t think about it like the low rent broke dick expats I occasionally rant about who can barely afford a $300 a month apartment out here. I’m not one of those.
@@donjohnson5123 Yea, the big ones are much more I think. They take many years to get to that size so well worth it. I think they command a good price because Viets think it brings good luck. That's why they sell so many during Tet.
@@user-kt9zs Indeed my friend. Great insight. I sometimes forget the cultural value on things around here. You remind me of the shock of seeing the unsold tet flowers burned or left to go to pot, they allow no one to take them for free or buy them after for a discount even though they’re mostly annuals. They simply let them all die out and that’s total BS IMO. Some will place gazzilions of unsold Tet flowers around their homes but never water them, after a month or so they’re history and only seen again the following lunar new year. Vietnam is weird like that in many ways but each day when I awake my first thought is always “thank God I don’t live in the West any longer.
@@donjohnson5123 The west is only bad for us because we lived there when it was great long ago, so we see the decline. The worst part about it is that the decline of the west is intentional and is being led by people who want to destroy western culture and white people. Most Viets are still dying to escape to the west and esp. the USA because they have no idea what's going on there. They only focus on the fact that they'll have much better economic opportunities in the west. Problem is, they don't understand the impact of living in a nation with a completely broken down society. Vietnam is far from perfect, but we are outsiders so we don't see the extent of the problems since we don't know the language or have a deep understanding of the culture. And we aren't affected by the biggest problem (corruption) which creates the huge income disparity, since we already earned our money in the west.

You sure do paint a picture of paradise out there!
Good one, Are you far away from the in-laws? I know this is way far off, but have you thought about whether you're going to make Vietnam your final resting place? Or will you rest in the USA? One thing I noticed is in Vietnam they celebrate your passing each year. In the USA, after the ceremony, people forget you're gone. Pretty sad.
@@user-kt9zs Oh I took a big dump on the tarmac of the airport before I boarded the plane to come expatriate out here. I’ve never gone back and am never going back to America. My whole reason for doing what I did was to GTFO of what America has become. Vietnam has been and is home now.
@@donjohnson5123 I figured so. American society is finished. It's all being done on purpose.
@@user-kt9zslet me add that commonly the foreigner death is communicated to the proper authorities and a record made. This often if not 99.9% of the time involving the American embassy desiring that the body would naturally be sent home whole or cremated to the family. In addition to that as a military honorably discharged veteran that transport and burial would be paid for by the government. Flag drapped coffin, taps, and all that business Uh-No in my case. We’ve discussed it with the leader and I’m on the dole here as well as after 3 years of marriage in my wife’s family’s “book.” He said just bring my passport down to him/his office and he’ll handle it. I’m not sure if I’ll be cremated and kept on a shelf here in the worship room or buried in the graveyard just down the road. In any event as you and I discussed, I ain’t never going back to America alive or dead. I’m estranged from any family back home so whatevs to them anyways
I showed my wife and she said the design must have cost a lot of money. Looks great.
@@user-kt9zs You have to reveal if your wife is Vietnamese or not. The design cost expense goes right into the build if you green light the project so the design cost was negligible. Had we rejected the design or the build (changed our minds about the whole thing) then we’d have had to pay the full design cost.
@@donjohnson5123 Interesting.
@@user-kt9zs yeah it’s kind of cool how that works. Basically it’s 100% return on the design cost (discounts off the cost of the build) if you agree to the build. I assume the designer gets paid a reasonable fee by the builder. Reject the build we’d have had to pay the designer $45 Million Dong for wasting his time. Since we never intended to change our minds …… I think it’s an enticement to encourage you to proceed with the build. Who knows.
Looks great. Coming along nicely. Better than I imagined. Are you surprised how nice it's coming along? I'm thinking the total cost will be around $120,000. A good amount of money to drop at once. We're used to mortgages in the US. This would cost 4X in the US. Your timing was great as the exchange rate is sweet versus a year ago.
@@user-kt9zs Thank you. Your comments have been very kind and appreciated. Both surprised and impressed. The design we put together was I thought going to be a challenge but the builder and his team have done an amazing job. They know how to build homes out here and I love that it’s all brick and mortar and plaster, no “wood studs” CDX plywood and drywall like in America. You should see some of the U.S. money multi million dollar villas they build out in Saigon and Hanoi. Id have never done this normally but the land price and build price with the exchange rate (where we are located) makes it easy. Land prices in HCMC and Hanoi are 50X a square meter more than what we paid and that’s not even joking. Even here in Hoi An the land prices were 25X more what we paid per square meter of land out where we are situated Wife and I shopped around for everything going inside the home from kitchen cabinets to bath hardware to lighting and switches and switch plates and appliances and on and on. That hustle on our part saved us thousands of dollars compared to just letting the builder do it all without question.
@@donjohnson5123 Yea, properties in prime areas in Saigon are ridiculous. I saw one listed the other day 110sm condo for $1.5 million. 99% of Americans could not afford prime property in Saigon. Prices driven to the Moon by corruption, fraud and money laundering. I read that the average price for villas and shop houses in Saigon is now $20,000/sm. Really crazy. Thailand has a much better real estate market and I thought their market was not so great until I saw Vietnam's.

I think that wall would be a awesome water feature. A waterfall wall with lights shining up from the bottom.
Not a bad idea except that there are (in some respects probably wealthier than me in secret) poor hard working farm people living in the area. They’d think I was nuts. This is farming culture we’re moving to. In HCMC and Hanoi where they have million dollar Villa neighborhoods sure, but out here in the rural simple farm lands the local people would marvel at the insanity and strangeness of wasting water in such a fashion. There’s a house around the bend that has a huge cement pond out front filled with fish and little boys sit there and fish it. I believe it serves in part as a food source. A “private” small portable water feature for that effect, yeah, I can do it, but inside the inner courtyard, vestibule that is in the center of the house on the rice field side or up on the second floor patio.
