My Experience with the Honda CRF250L

My Experience with the Honda CRF250L
I towed heavy with my 4.8, but I have a 4l80e trans. If you have a 4l60e, I suggest using the tow button, or you can burn the overdrive.
My 4.8 has been running wild in deep south alabama for 370k and ive towed with it, mudded with it, lost races in it, cut cookies at walmart, parked it for 4 months straight too. 4.8 is unkillable
Thank you showing how everything works, plus comparing types of John Deere engines. Bought mine used without a manual. Listening you I know I bought the right one, for I use it more as a mini tractor than a mower! Thanx again!
I disabled the reverse blade disengagement 'safety' feature, and now use the yellow button for a horn. A forklift style horn works perfect. As far as the blade disengagement safety system goes, the older mowers didn't have it, and the new mowers don't need it as long as you are paying attention to what you are doing and not texting while mowing, or mowing drunk. Lol. It's also considerable additional wear on the PTO clutch when you forget to press the button over the course of time.
Pull it! I've pulled over 8,000 lbs with my 2016 tacoma trd v6, from kremmling colorado down into denver. So I did go up and over Eisenhower (the gauntlet) no issues!
From someone with over 2 million miles towing it’s not a race. I’d bet this tacoma with that load is faster to 60 than 90% of semi trucks.
Could a 4.8 tow an enclosed trailer with a car in it , do you think with upgraded gears , tow bar and suspension and brakes ?
I don't know, if it's a one time deal and you're not going too far it can be done. I think about the transmission. If it's a half ton truck with the 4l60e, I would reconsider the idea.
Weak transaxel. I recommend not to purchase!
Put foil on that shit then remove the oil filter. You’re welcome.
After 6 years and 320 hours, it’s finally starting to give me an issue. The deck belt keeps breaking and John Deere wants $90 per belt. You can get them aftermarket on Amazon for $30 though. I’m not sure what’s causing this. I’ll update when I figure it out
I’d be willing to bet your deck is bent for one or for two. A spindle is bent I can’t say cuz I’ve never looked at it
Check for bearings beginning to seize on the spindles.
any update on the belt issue ? looking at this model as my lt180 is getting a bit tired after a decade.
how u like the jd oil ur machine still running good

@@Outdoors-ty8hp hope u figure it out bro
I recently picked up an 04 Sierra 1500 ext cab 4x4 with the 4.8L and I’ve been contemplating if it was a mistake cuz i need to be able to tow my car that weighs 3500lbs on a 1500-2000lb trailer plus another 250-500lbs of tools & equipment for a much longer haul than 250 miles… After seeing this I think im gonna have a truck for sale here in a few. 😩
A 2500 or even a 6.0 would be better. You could regear to 4.10 if you’re on stocks, which would help a lot, if you don’t want to deal with getting another truck.
You're transmission is not rated for this.
The 4.8 transmission is much better transmission than a 5.3 or 6 L . As my 4.8 with 360,000 on it . The one thing I had to do was fix the Bearings in the rear end . I have not pushed my truck hard .
Their the same transmission other than the 6.0
I have an 02 sierra with the 4.8 and it has 248k on it and still going strong
Got a 2001 chev it can tow a lot of stuff
Does it do a full Lockup in 4th or does it have to be in fifth for a lockup torque converter?
Weak point is the transmission in these. Change your fluid after towing heavy. 4l60e and 4l65 just have issues.
Hey man, quick question. I have a 2010 4.8L. I recently replaced my 3.42's with 4.10's. With towing now, do you recommend leaving it in 3 or D, or both while towing?
I’d recommend taking it out of overdrive.
@@Outdoors-ty8hphow high are your RPM’s when you tow out of overdrive (in 3)? I heard the truck likes to rev high
Nothin like an old county Obs
No brake controller, I use 4.8 to pull 15ft trailer 300 gal tank full water with pressure washer and a 60 gal tank in best with softwash system and sometimes a 55 gal drum full of chemical plus 30 to 60 gal tank mentioned above with Chem in it
I hate spending on money on something I can do myself as well. Nice job!
Just got this exact mower recently only dislike is the steering wheel play/feel the rest is perfect
This video was made when his John Deere X350 was new, it's now 5 years later and I hope it's still running strong? I have a JD x350 but I have the 48" deck which I have to say never gets clogged on me. I also have the 22hp. Kawasaki engine which John Deere used for years. I also use the Power Chute Bagger for the lawns, mine is Zoysia grass which is thatch prone so don't want to double the Problem with dead grass clipping. I agree with you 100% on the oil filter mess when changing it, but my deck has for rollers and is easy to unhook so just move the deck and rags on the frame helps. Good Video.
Thank you for watching. Yes, I still have this same mower 5 1/2 years later. It now has 320 hours on it. I haven’t the first issue with until here recently. It broke its original deck belt. I bought an aftermarket one on Amazon for $30 being John Deere belt was $90. It lasted 5 hrs then broke. So I figured it was maybe because it was the cheap one so I coughed up the $90 for a John Deere. That one lasted 3 hours, and broke. I haven’t figured out what’s causing it, some of the bearings on the deck have play/howling sounds. May be time for a compete deck rebuild. The mower owes me nothing. It’s been fantastic.
fake
I have the same truck. I pull 3500lbs occasionally. I never use the cruise control - even when not towing as it is obnoxious trying to maintain speed in 3rd gear @5000 rpm. When I tow I use 4th gear (sport mode, no ECT, no cruise) and let the truck bog down and let it be. 55-60 MPH is the sweet spot for the 4 cyl when towing.
What hitch was this
I have a lifted 4.8 going to be towing a Prius, on an estimated 5 hour drive. I do have a brake controller. Just worried maybe it won’t be able to handle the weight
How’d it do ? For me I pull like ~10,000 pounds daily and brakes are huge issue for the truck takes far too long to actually come to complete stop and then to take off takes even longer
I hated my 4.8....had to put the pedal through the floor to get on the interstate and it constantly searched for gears, ultimately leading to premature transmission failure....plus the oil burning....truck was garbage at 90k miles
Crank up your jack.
This was a great video. My husband passed away and we just got this and I needed to learn how to put oil in it. And you taught me some good tips! He’s been gone for a year now and I haven’t put oil in it the whole time. He would be mad at me about that. Thanks for your help!
Hell yeah, im going to put 285s on my 99 tahoe and probably use 2 inch spacers
Thanks, just what I needed to see so I can change the oil on my John Deere X350
The 4.8l can do 7-8k towing but not on a regular basis. But it needs upgrades to the hitch , axle gearing, bigger brakes. and best if do it's towing on a manual transmission not automatic. If looking to buy and plan on doing even moderate towing just get a 5.3, 6.0l, or the huge 8.1l. The 4.8l was to get better gas mileage and very light towing.
My 4.8 couldn't tow itself!
I agree on the seat. It does not feel natural to me. My old X255 had a much better and more comfortable seat.
i'm surprised by what my 04 with 5.3 and 3.73 gears will pull if i have it in tow mode and use the right gear for the terrain i'm driving. 252k on it, original engine and trans with no problems at all. just added a massive trans cooler and huge aluminum transmission pan.
I also have an 04 5.3. It should have no problem hauling a heavy duty trailer like the one in the video empty right? What would the limit be before I have to add stuff. Finally what’s recommended to add to tow heavy?
i added a huge transmission cooler, massive aluminum transmission pan, and "super springs" in the rear along with load range E tires. i have pulled 10k locally without a problem, take advantage of 1st gear for starting from a stop and keep it out of overdrive, make sure your trailer brakes work well and you have a good brake controller@@jesusarroyo651
I just did mine and ima tell you this it’s decently loud but it sounds nice
Nice tahoe. Still got it? Looks state owned
A 4WD model wouldn't have done much better more on that terrain, tires, and tire placement batters. Those stock tires are bumpy, I know, have had plenty of Hondas. Need tires with better stability, stronger sidewalls, and tread. Do, that with the right amount of tire pressure, and a little practice, you will figure it out.
The towing capacity of a pickup is not rated based off of the engine.
Yes, and no. Example- I have a 2019 Tacoma 4 cylinder 4x4. It’s advertised to tow 3500 pounds. The V6 version is rated at 6500. They’re both the same trucks. Transmissions, suspension, breaks, etc. the limiting factor of mine is the hp/ ft lb torque. Mine ‘could’ do 6500, but you risk damage to the engine/you cannot get safely up to speed.
F150 looking real nice in the background
Did you tow in 2wd? Or 4wd?
I’m looking into buying a 4x4 RCSB 6.0 truck. You think it’ll do good pulling my 7x14 enclosed trailer?? With 2000lbs in the trailer?
Very nice! Looks like a late war model stock, with an older buttplate on it! I have one exactly like that, I’m super excited to shoot it!
if my Glock 43 was that beat up looking. I would just give it to a friend. I wouldn't sell it to her like that. Send the slide to somebody who's competent. And they'll coat it right. Plus, you don't have to worry about her sweating the way you do. It's gonna last.
I got an 03 Silverado LT 4x4, 5.3L with the Z71 package and I think it was code GT4 for 3.73 gears, From what I could find online the max tow capacity is 8,800lbs Its a little bit difficult to figure out if that's accurate though, because its a fiberglass step-side truck.. I can tell you from experience I've owned C30 1 tons, and they road smoother than this Silverado does, this thing will send you through the ceiling if you hit a pot hole. So I'm not exactly sure, its stiff as hell though? like a 1 ton... I can't drink coffee safely in this thing I know that. Anyway, point is I wanna use it for towing now not sure if there is a better way to narrow down the exact weight it can tow "legally"
It will be in your user manual, these gmt800 trucks came with the ratings. (I think the fords did too). Then multiply the rating by 0.8 and that will be your safe tow rating.
Man i was honestly just thinking of some pro-comp 17" 97series wheels with 285/75R17s and a set of 4 Monroe load-adjusting shocks which generally give about an inch of lift in compromise for a stiffer ride almost like a solid axle truck.. I've drove both solid axle and tortion setups and kinda like a bit of a stiffer ride in a truck as such, but I'm not sure they'd fit and do kinda expect rub but I like tires around this size bc they seem almost perfect to fit these
Do You still got a sway bar in there ?
