and you opened it
It didn't work at all before I opened it, I had to open it in order to repair it to get this clip.
My first and only IBM desktop drive. Apart from this I only owned a Travelstar that came in a DELL notebook and didn’t seem to be all that reliable…
Dentists be like
Sounds pretty fast : ))
i think i have the 8.4gb version of this from a compaq deskpro p3 550 minitower.
Back in the time when the Seagate name actually meant quality : ))
That better not be a JVC spindle motor I hear ; ))
I love how these drives sound
I wish i had one of these maxtors , they sound amazing (My collection is lacking maxtors)
I think this generation of WD drives was pretty reliable. As far as I remember, these models came out of the WD-IBM joint venture (after the transition period in which WD manufactured IBM designs under their own "Expert" name).
Is that a seagate I hear in the backround?
Yes it is
WORKS GOOD
The more I look at the one's without the circular ring, the more odd these look to me like a slab. I wonder why Seagate had so many different top cover designs on different Medalist drives. At least it makes them pretty unique to some.
Not sure. Maybe they were testing ways to reduce the noise or just giving them a fresh look? Could've also been a OEM request...
@@windisk1112 Neat. That is better than what Fujitsu did with their IDE drives, which is make them all look like each other at least on the outside haha.
A Conner I quite like, doesn't really seem that slow as I believe a lot of people said they were back in the day. My favorite part is the manufacture date of !994 : ))
New clock to hang on the wall ; ))
ah yes the maxtor clock
Do all the LCT 15 drives overshoot the spindle? I don't think the older LCT models do it. Reminds me of a Fireball ST or SE, just it doesn't do it as noticeably. Sounds good for being a budget drive for the time!
As far as I know they all do it. Kinda weird.
@@windisk1112 The Quantum's are angry : ))
you hot glued the head back on? thats insane.
I guess this just shows how quiet the seeking of those early Conners can be (also I guess the spindle might be quite loud too) Still impressed that the glued back head actually somehow works. Interesting how it doesn’t seem to be using anywhere near the entire platter for some reason.
All CHS drives are doing that with HDMotion now, I have no idea why. The drive does use the whole platter in normal operation.
@@windisk1112 Maybe something with the BIOS of the machine you use then, HDMotion does use the entire platter for me.
Think I know what the S stands for...
That's quite the bad sector tune it has!
Wonder how long it will actually stay good? Always feels like a matter of time given their track record!
like the spindle bearings on this one
I have this exact drive, sounds completely the same too
Ultra SMASHED...all too familiar Fujitsu bad sector sound : ((
A shame these have unreliable media. I think the media on this one has degraded to the point where it forgot the amount of disk it has, still cool to see internals nonetheless
this drive has my favourite seektest
Same, shame they’re absolute lemons
@@thegeforce6625 True, wish they would be more reliable
why did this show up in my feed lmao
Now that's IBM quality : ))
The spindle pitch doesn't seem to be as annoying as some of their drives from this time, wonder why that is. Seems to be very quiet actually. Glad that this one works with no problems.
Wow that is sure one nice Quantum atlASS : ))
RARE THINGY!!!
Still a Samsung
TriGem > Samsung :)
i always see these drives with spindles quieter of samsungs of the same model... just a coincidence? or is it... that trigem uses higher quality motor?
@@notsoseagatey Definitely a coincidence! As far as I'm aware, Samsung only printed a different label so they're really exactly the same in all regards. I think the labels are very fun though personality :) Maybe given their OEM nature and that the TriGem branded drives which are still around were specifically removed from TriGem OEM machines may tell a tale of a well cared for drive, so perhaps that's a thing!
At least it looks perfect from the outside. Shame that it ended up with some media rot...
These are some of my favorite to look at inside, I find it really interesting how everything is painted black. That must've been how dark and mysterious they wanted these to be...another tombstone : ((
Music to my ears!
"I'll set up backup this weekend"
Super cool! The first working one on UA-cam. I recommend making your videos less yellow, it is painful to look at and I can barely see the drive.
I have been trying out some backgrounds but it's very hard to get the sunlight just right, I plan on making some open air drive videos where i'll test out those.
Such extreme hard drive as heavy duty needs?
Would be a nice drive (if it was available in SCSI) for a SE/30
There is a SCSI version of this drive, the 425S. It is a lot less rare than this IDE version. But still very rare and expensive.
Sounds like death
ok
love the sound
Are in this hdd contain bad sectors? In hdmotion heard pauses while seeking
That was caused by me running HDMotion in Windows ME instead of DOS for this run.
Is this the model that had media issues? If it is, it's incredible that the media is still intact. (I dont remember the model of drive that had that issues so Im guessing)
Yes this is one of the models affected by media issues
Woah, it sounds like it just left the factory :3 Perfectly fine!
My ears... They bleed... Headphones were at max too...
Works good!
Is that how the seller described it? 😉
Yes : )
I have an old Seagate hard disk drive called Barracuda ATA II, but it also has similar symptoms and is not recognized.
