Expert Soap Maker Shares Top Picks and WORST Mistakes! Soap Mold Recommendations
Like many soap makers I have a large collection of soap molds. These are just my personal recommendations of what soap molds to buy and what soap molds to stay away from. I have used just about every type of soap mold. I have built my own soap mold from wood. I have used old shoe boxes for a soap mold. One easy way is to use an old pringles can for a soap mold. But overall I think using silicone molds are the best for soap making. Silicone molds are easy to clean and can be used again and again without any issues. The soap may take a little extra time to cure in a silicone mold but they come in so many fun shapes. I have tried resin mold that are hard plastic for soap and they did not work out so good.

    I'm struggling with why there's a growing trend to make soap look like sprinkled candy, food, cake, with glitter, herbs, scrapings, etc. Please. Google AI says "To avoid making homemade soap look like candy, limit the use of vibrant, candy-like colors, avoid adding decorative sprinkles or toppings, and clearly label your soap to distinguish it from food; focus on more natural color palettes and textures that clearly indicate it is a cleansing product, not a confectionery item, to prevent accidental ingestion, especially if young children are around."

    Does it have a reaction when put in a cold process soap bar? Does it set up and get firm or does it get gooey or stay soft?

      I have never put it on the inside of cold process soap. Unless you soap really low temps I probably wouldn’t. Most of the time when you put cp soap in the mold it continues to heat up a bit. It may not keep its form. Maybe just make a test batch

    hi there, i'm looking for advice, actually i've made my first batch of soap on sunday by mixing 2500g of used cooking oil+2500g of water+500g of caustic soda and cooking it but it took me like 3 or 4 hours to see the mashed potato texture( the water took too long time to evaporate) so at the end the soap had a brownish color with the smell of cooking oil in it.i wasn't able to seperate the soap from the red water as it was one consistency.i wished to salt it out but didn't know the exact amounts of water and salt ( should i salt it out for 1 hour? should i do it now?) ?if you can help me with advice that would be great.thankx

      Cooking oil? What type of oil exactly? Olive oil or canola oil? They have different values. Are you hand mixing it, or using an immersion blender? Mixing by hand can take hours. You should use at 2:1 water ratio. I would recommend finding a recipe and start there.

      @@aliciaarroyo6 hi the oil is cooking oil (corn).I fixed it by salting it out twice and the result is better.here in my country they make soap by mixing 5litres of cooking oil+5litres of water+1kg of costic soda +1tbp of salt and they let it ferment for a week and they mix it from time to time.the final result is a very white and nice soap.they do not test the ph here.do you think this is a good recipe?thankx

      Yes, something did not fully incorporate. You could have had a false trace or perhaps a fragrance oil that did not cooperate well with the other oils in the soap.

      @aliciaarroyo6 soap gal collaborated with makesy to create premade 50/50 lye solution to make cold process soap. 50/50 lye solution is half water and half lye solution so it can speed up the curing process. I am asking since I will be using 50/50 lye solution how much of it will I use since this technically different and different percentages?

    So was it basically buttermilk olive oil and coconut oil? What kind of lather and hardness and softness does it have?

    • @aliciaarroyo6
      @aliciaarroyo6 4 місяці тому

      The lather was on a creamy yet bubbly side. It’s been a few years since I made this soap so it’s hard to remember. This soap also needs a fairly long cure time. I would recommend closer to the 6 week cure time. It was a slightly softer bar but Castile type soaps are meant to cure for about a year before use.

I'm on this medication for 2 weeks so I can't give my milk to my baby but I'm pumping like crazy and I don't know what to do with the milk I don't want to waste it I probably have three quarts full and it's just day three I'll be on this medication for another 11 days. Could you recommend a bulk recipe for a moisturizing soap with a little exfoliation for me to use? And another recipe for the baby and a list of everything i need ?

    • @aliciaarroyo6
      @aliciaarroyo6 8 місяців тому

      You can modify this recipe to your needs. I have a few other Breastmilk soap recipes on my channel. Colloidal oatmeal would be a nice exfoliating additive. I would highly recommend adding milk to your bath water or your babies bath water. It’s conditioning to the skin and reduces a lot of blemishes.
