Sustainability in Costuming
Переглядів 782 роки тому
The EPA has estimated that 17 million tons of textiles ended up in landfills in the United States in 2018. That’s 5.8% of total landfill goods for the year. Textile manufacturing is one of the biggest causes of pollution on the planet. That’s why it is essential that we, as costumers and consumers, use up every scrap of textile that we buy.

Thank you for sharing!
I think I have a walking foot need to start using it!
I like yours, because it is larger
Thank you for this - used your video to make myself a quick apron for Oktoberfest weekend at a ren faire last year, and a Hobbit apron just today. Made one with pleats like you did, and one gathered, so easy but the perfect finishing touch! Thank you!
Perfect for the project I'm working on, thanks a ton
This is so great! I'm currently making trossfrau-inspired costume (I'm playing in a band) and I spent some time wondering how to make such a nice hat. I will definietly use your instructions, thank you <3
Nice video, thanks for sharing. How did you draft your pattern? What are the dimensions? Is there a website where you copied the pattern?
The pattern was copied from a friend who drafted it for herself. Unfortunately, it is not available on any website.
Interesting video, thanks. Mary's shirt is orange before she "dies". It never changes colour.
Oh, you're right! Good point!
HAI! Iz Kirisa!
*Wonder how primitive intercourse was back then, when the hygiene was totally absent and the partner would smell old sleep-odour and the stank from badly dried feces. Not to mention the hairy womens legs*
I’m so thankful for this tutorial ! I‘m a German living in Austria for many years already . Want to discover this myself for reenacting .
Thank you for the video :) i am currently trying to wrap my head around those damn Cranach gowns. I just don't get how the opening part can defy basically any underlying rule that has applied since the middle ages! That breastband thingy makes no sense to me, there isn't any similar style at the time or earlier or later. I keep thinking why can't it be attached to a kirtle underneath or to the top of the chemise like normal dresses. I really wished there was an extant garment so i could believe that it really was that weird!
is this similar to the 1700s?
I haven't done research into the 1700s, so I can't really answer that. However, peasant fashions moved very slowly, so likely, that wouldn't change. Also Landsknecht was a "fashion moment in time" so to speak, and I don't believe that fashion would have moved forward into the 1700s.
Great job guys I appreciate it I Hemi my pants course Levi's I actually use E6000 I glue them up and it holes up pretty good but now that I've learned your Technique I'll try yours good presentation great job thank you
Thank you for your description of the dress and head pieces.
Well that was nice to see other than English or French Attire. Thank you.
Are there any sources you could suggest to read in this topic?
That was incredibly clear, and very informative. Thanks!
The peasants dress is a forerunner of the Dirndle! German women have been wearing them for centuries.
And still do! Or again?
Yeah. Basically nothing changed during the last 500 years. 😁
I absolutely cannot sew but your video was interesting & fun to watch. I remember hearing that certain colors could only be worn by members of a certain class. Was that rule still observed in that century or could the commoners wear whatever color they wanted?
i know its a bit late for a reply haha, but certain colors were restricted to the nobility eg tyrian purple, royal blue, scarlet red etc
Thank you!
Oh, I have a similar dress to yours and I'm so gonna make an apron now!
What is your website?
amiesparrow.wordpress.com
The outfit minus the Italian jacket, you are wearing, is similar to the Rhenish (Lower Left Rhineland area) traditional folk costume. However the guards would just be black and bodice and skirt would be two different garments. Thank you for sharing.
obligatory comment that urs graf was swiss not german ;)
I could listen to you talk about German sleeves for days
Amen
WOW!!!!! She's damn GOOD !!!
Very informative! Could you link your website in your video descriptions, please? :)
Also I noticed that the bodice is basically a long dirndl.
I recognize that embroidery!
Love it!!!!
Thank you so much, i was literally resurching trossfrau for 12th night
Thank you for your insight! This is incredibly helpful.
