Digital Antenna signal improvement
Переглядів 972 місяці тому
A few times a week or month the signal from my digital antenna would degrade to pixelated reception or "no signal" on a few to most of the channels. I tried running a cable direct to the TV instead of through the old cable wiring and reception improved. This video shows how I installed the cable permanently and fixed reception problems.

Fuel Leak 2015 Yukon. Detection and Replacment
Переглядів 7483 місяці тому
I saved and estimated $1750 on this DYI fuel leak fix. I got a gas leak on a Yukon on the way home from a trip to South Dakota. I called around to get it repaired but there were no openings for a week. The leak was not around anything really hot like the engine or muffler, so we took the risk and drove home a day early. The vid below shows what happened and the fix.

Concrete Slab Site prep, hand mix, level, and finish.

Pouring a concrete slab is not light work. Here you will see: Preparing the area. The slab should be sloped away from the house. Mixing by hand. It should have a consistancy a little wetter than cake frosting. Leveling with a 2X4. We finished it with a steel trowel so it would be smooth and easy to sweep clean. It was not intended for a lot of foot traffic, so slipping was not a consideration.

Thank you for sharing the video
Good one! I'm looking to do that one of these days. I hope your family is safe in Florida!
Daughter Cristine called me the day after and said: "We are so thankful that you took on that job. It is working perfectly, and it is so much more convient than having extension cords running all over the place."
Editing went a a little wonky around 6:49 or so but very informative and I appreciate the time you took making this!
Terri, Thanks for the comment. I hope you got some good ideas from the vid. Regarding "wonky", editing out my "a's" and flubs is a challenge for me:-)
Great video
Thanks for the comment. So few folks click like, even fewer comment and even fewer subscribe. Your comment was a welcome change:-)
missing some details but not bad
awsome work, will keep watching your other videos
hey thanks taking the time. Also, i have one of samsung fridge the bottom freezer does not freeze but works top one Ok. i don't see defrost issue, what you think/
It's pretty hard to diagnose things remotely, but if the bottom freezer is not cold enough to freeze it could be a temperature control module issue just like the one in my video. You may want to set it to a lower temperature and see if that makes any difference.
@@martyplecki7567 could it be sensor? Waiting sensor to arrive to try
Nice work and great video. Keep up the good work.
Nice job sir! On the job and the video.
That Zip-Loc bag was a brilliant idea...thanks for the tip! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I would like to hear Dave Strands opinion on this. I feel he would add expertise.
Stoff1: You peeked my interest, so I searched Dave and found there are many of them. Perhaps you are an incognito Dave:-)
I've seen a lot of bad reviews for the store bought brands of sealcoat like Latex-ite, Black Jack, Henry and others. A lot of reviews where the product washes away with rain or starts peeling right up a few months. What do you recommend or what have you had the best experience with?
Thanks for the comment and query. I used Latex-ite Optimum and Latex-ite Trowel Patch. I say they both worked well. My drive way was very weathered. Almost all was solid. Not a lot of cracks. No oil stains. I power washed before applying. Patched first and sealed last. The most critical thing to do is clean it. The better the cleaning the better the adhesion. If your driveway is pretty flat, I suggest you use a soap and stiff broom, then aggressively rinse it off for best results.
thanks marty . im gonna check it out . but im having the same problem. im curious now. like u said ! when they run they run great .
Let me know how you do. I don't get a lot of comments yet, so I am likely to respond:-)
@martyplecki7567 well up date .. runs , but after a few tries smashing the gas .. then like it bogs , idles great.. so I purchased carb cleaner .. hopefully few sprays .. should clear up .. hopefully. remember I thought this unit would take mix gas .. I was wrong . straight gas .. so im guessing I gotta clear out the oil in the carb
Thanks
I wish I would have watched this last week before I tossed mine out.
Great video!
Thanks for the video. Can it be used as blacktop crack filler to fill the crack and shallow gap? Also can it be used as driveway sealer to coat the whole asphalt driveway?
My driveway was badly weathered. For the big cracks I used a filler first, then, for the small cracks, gaps and the rest of the driveway, I used the sealer. I think this answers your question.
Thank you!
Im trying to find timing marks on my x430 ryobi. No one seem to know i need xxxxxxxx help
Sorry for the late reply. I just saw your comment. There may not be marks anywhere, but take the spark plug out and look for the piston coming up as you rotate the engine, or put a straw in the hole and watch for the piston to be at the top of the stroke. When there, both intake and exhaust valves should be closed: The rocker arms will be just slightly loose. If that is the case, your timing is OK. If not, reposition the timing belt.
Love your video. I learned from it and thank you for showing what happened during the winter season. 🎉😊
Thanks for your comment. I don't get many, so, although a little late, I can respond to most. If you are doing your driveway, I hope it turns out well:-)
Thanks for posting sir. Just purchased a new 2023 side x side GE refrigerator from a clearance warehouse. Im a DYI guy. It turns on lights up, fans come on but neither freezer or refrigiration cools. After testing ive determined the compressor tests out good, capacitor tests good but overload relay is most likely bad. So ive ordered a new capacitor and overload relay. Hopefully itll fire up once those parts arrive and are installed. 😂 Im a bit nervous til then. These tasks can be either frustrating or satisfying. Thanks again for posting. Happy fixing!
I don't get many comments, so, although a little late, I can respond to most. I hope your fridge repair turns out well. Either way, if you have time, let me know how it went:-)
@@martyplecki7567 i sure will. Capacitor arrived yesterday but overload will be couple more days. The compressor pins tested oL. No continuity. One of the pins on bottom with one multimeter lead on top compressor pin and other on bottom pin Tests oL . No continuity. Thanks again
No pins tested for being grounded on compressor.
Dag. Parts came in. I installed them. Still not getting cold. Compressor clicks one time, a low steady buzz, and can fill a feel slight vibration on compressor. Top of compressor a little warm. Used built in diagnostics thermisters(4) pass. Fans pass. Did hard and soft reset. Im baffled.
Is the Roybi still working? I have one that is similar with similar symptoms. Checking the youtoob for training…it was an inherited piece that doesn’t seem well cared for. I’ll probably start at spark arrestor and go from there.
Yes it is. If yours cranks with the cord, there is oil in the crank case and the belt does not come off the pulley, you should be able to get it to run without many problems. Good luck:-)
My x430 carb looks nothing like yours model # ry34007
I've had my x430 4 15 years I've run it to death until timing came off I can't find timing marks
All Ryobi products are junk!!! But you will find that out.
For me, there is good and bad in everything that is made. If you have tried to make something you have not made before, you know it is rarely easy. That has been my experience, anyway:-)
Have the same model with the same issue…I’ll be cleaning the carb now as well! Thanks!
Have you had an opportunity to work on it? How did it turn out?
Well done! Thank you so much. Now I go to my garage looking for those parts that I saved.
I found early on that you can't solder on any nicad or lithium without destroying it. You are spot on. Want to build one. Schematic?
Howard, there is a link at the bottom of the video you watched to a 30 minute vid that has a schematic and all the details about how to build it. If you have other q's while you are building it, ask away here:-)
No circuit diagram?
Circuit diagram and a lot of details are shown in the 30 minute video. There is a link to it in the description for this short video.
Lithium ion D cell batteries. You’re welcome
D size rechargable batteries are about $6 each. The batteries I used were about $1 each from batteryhookup.com:-)
Very true but they’re rechargeable 500 to 1000 times even if you had to recharge them 10x to be the same as disposable batteries they’re still severely cheaper overall and a lot more stable in the output. In other words they won’t weaken as much throughout the charge life as disposable batteries will. And idk where you found them for $6 but Amazon has a 4 pack for around $10
Good one, Marty! Appliance diagnostics are one of my favorites. Question, though. Can the WD-40 keep magnets from sticking to my fridge?
Tim, Glad to see you watching:-) There is a lot to be said about Stainless Steel, but to keep it short: Some SS are magnetic some are not. If your fridge is magnetic, WD40 will not stop the magnet from sticking. The film is too thin. But it might be slippery enough for what ever you are sticking to the fridge to slide some. If that happens wipe with a damp cloth and that should help. I have some more vids coming:-)
Thanks. Excellent video.
Regarding high and low carb adjustments, there is an H and an L staring right at you on the carb body; you can figure out which is which.
Enjoyed your show.
Raymond, Thanks for the supportive comment:-)
Excellent advice and information 👍🇨🇦
Andrew, Thanks for the supportive comment:-)
Good stuff! Please consider a video on reviving dead batteries…specifically 32650 batteries. Mostly scuba light stuff.
I would charge the battery, check voltage mark date and volts. If it looses more than 0,5 volts in a month, I would recycle them and replace. In my experience, batteries that will not hold a charge are not worth the effort to try to revive, so I will not be making a vid about that:-) If there is zero volts and charging does not bring the volts off of zero, view my videos for a way to check if the safety on the plus side of the battery is tripped and reset it. For SCUBA lights, I would strongly consider replacing the Halogen bulbs with LEDs.
There are 3 problems with this trimmer. 1. the timing belt will jump/slip. Fix is to remove belt, stick screwdriver in plug hole and set crank to TDC then reset top cog to TDC mark and reinstall belt. 2. If the belt is old and/or stretched, replacement requires dropping oil pan, removing coil, then hammering crankshaft out to remove the belt. 3. The camshaft journal for the camshaft bushing/bearing is cast into the head... so it cannot be replaced. To check, grab the timing belt cog and see if it wiggles... if it does there's a good chance the camshaft journal bushing/bearing is compromised and this will cause the belt to continually jump/slip on the cog. Do #3 first... if there is any play.. toss the trimmer...
The belt is not slipping off and the cog has no play....for now:-)
The screw closest to the motor will set the idle & the one closest to the air filter will set the high speed running
Is there another type of carburetor that we can install on this engine?
I don't know if another carburetor would work. I expect it would depend on whether the carburetor was designed for that displacement engine. You can try whatever you like if it fits. Good luck:-)
you can buy the right carb for it online the carb in vid is for a 2 cycle engine not the ryobi 4 cycle. he going to need to rebuild the carb every season do to that fact the carb in vid is off a craftman weedeater
Thanks for the detailed video- mine has a small Bakelite mounting port / spacer that broke when I removed the carb and I cannot find this part anywhere online… I think it may be the death of it but trying to find one still. Thanks again, great video!
Sorry, Jon, I usually reply right away, mostly because I don't get that many views or comments.....yet:-) Anyhow, just thinking out loud about your broken bakelite mount, if it is not completely shattered, Epoxy might hold it together: Epoxy is fuel proof. When things that take a lot of punishment, like yours break on me, I wrap some about .3 mm copper wire around the perimeter and tighten it before the epoxy cures, then spread some epoxy over the wire and bakelite body to keep it all in place and from un raveling. If you look at the gray choke lever on the power head in this video, you will notice it has an off white substance over part of it. That is epoxy with wire under it. I repaired it that way because I knew it would be a "hard to find" part. Also the original broke because it is too weak for the application. Where as my repair is way stronger. Thanks for the comment, and I hope this helps a fellow fixer:-)
@@martyplecki7567 hi Marty - I used superglue and let it dry wrapped in wire as suggested - success! Trimmer runs better than ever.. thanks and appreciate your input and advice.
Thank you for experimenting for us👏👏👏
Thanks for the comment. I made other vids on this topic, specifically there is a series of 3. I am curious if folks see these when they search about making battery packs. Have you seen that these are available? If not, I must need to do something to make them show up on a search:-)
Hi, do you have any experience with 2011 BMW 750 or Mercedes S400 hv 128v 35 packs , 3.6v each . 3 cells dead , can they be restored or been replaced ‘ all glue together . Thank you
You have probably found a solution already. But, what I would add is: If you can get the cells out, try to charge them. If they hold the charge for a couple of weeks, probably not if you say they are dead, then they are not dead. If they don't hold a charge for longer than a couple of weeks trying to "restore" them is a waste of time. All the videos with folks saying they can restore dead or weak batteries are wishful thinking:-)
You're a pretty resourceful guy. I'd like to see you incorporate 3D printing to make a box for that motorcycle battery. Keep sharing!
Tim, It took a while, but I made a series of 3 vids on everything I learned about making rechargeable Li Ion battery packs, in case you are are interested. Each are a little under 15 min long. Like and share with folks you think may be interested:-)
