    Thanks! If you charge a client $2K to design/setup a Wordpress template, does the client get to keep the website if they decide to leave? And how do you justify to charge them ie. $99/month to managing it on top of the initial $2K?

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm 23 дні тому

      Hi James! These are great questions. I think the BEST thing for you to do would be to go back to the beginning of the playlist and listen to a few of my early episodes. It's not about charging a setup fee and then justifying the rest. The whole subscription mindset is to charge one monthly fee for the design, build, and management. It's justified because they are under contract and the website is not paid in full until a minimum of 18 months has passed. And of course, there are many more reasons that I can't possibly cover in one UA-cam comment :)

    The market has spoken. Web design is at the bottom of the list of valued marketing services. If your desire is to stay at the bottom of that list - cool. It's honest work. So is hamburger flipping. Just don't expect premium compensation for it.

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm Місяць тому

      This is true in a sense, for sure. There are obvs web designers who charge a premium and do a great job. But they are able to position their value to get a business result.

    Hi Steve, I think you might have solved this age-old debate with the "two business" structure you have set up for yourself. Would it make sense to have my "generalist" website have a dedicated page to the "niche" audience I'm targeting, rather than create an entirely new website/brand for the niche alone? I see that you have yours set up as two separate websites, but I guess I'm wondering why you did that....pros/cons?

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm Місяць тому

      That's a good question! I think it comes do what your goals are and how difference the audiences are. On the recent episode with Stephanie Hudson we actually discussed this; I would recommend checking it out. Basically, if you are serving two entirely different audiences (like we are), you'd use two separate websites and give the appearance of two separate businesses to avoid brand confusion. If the audiences are the same and it's just a little different offer, you could do a landing page on your current site!

    I use AI for writing ideas for more complex PHP, Javascript, etc. as well as business questions(SOPs, Management, etc.) I think of it like this(may be wrong), if I own a small auto repair shop and I use something like ZipWP, great I have a site in 60 seconds. Now what? I want to change content, images, layout. I have to learn how to do that and take time away from my auto shop. I could learn how to fix my car and not take it to a local auto shop, but I would have to learn all that. I think it's a two-way street. The dude at the repair shop fixes my car and I create a website the way he wants it. Small business owners who want to spend the time on their website are already doing it with things like Wix, Elementor, Divi, etc. My 2 cents.

    • @arpitshrmah
      @arpitshrmah Місяць тому

      Excellent point. Those who want to create website on their own are already doing it. Those who don't would continue to hire designers

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm Місяць тому

      Yeah... it's interesting. I hope, in a sense, we can achieve your first sentence, yet avoid your second sentence. That may be impossible. But I think overall it does make sense for AI to do all tasks that don't require human creativity. This will require even more humans to attempt tapping into their creative potential instead of sitting idly by.

    Which do you recommend? Shared hosting or Reseller hosting

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm Місяць тому

      Well, those are each a little different. Shared hosting would normally be compared against a Virtual Private Server (VPS). Reseller hosting is usually taking a VPS and then "reselling" it to your clients. I always recommend a VPS over shared hosting. Reselling is more case by case.

    Hey man, great video! If you charge monthly/annually for a website, how does it work legally? I assume you own the website so they can't just pay for one month and leave. So do you own the website but they are still responsible for content, data processing (GDPR etc), accessibility and privacy policy?

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm 2 місяці тому

      Thanks man! Yeah it's like a lease-to-own. They lease it from me for a minimum of 18 months, at which point they can take possession. You'd have to talk to a lawyer about how best to structure in terms of the specifics, but we've never run into any issues with those things! We work together to make sure the website is covered on those aspects. In a sense, we both take "ownership" of it. But the legalities of that will depend on how your contract is structured, etc.

    Best niche in Virginia?

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm 4 місяці тому

      Hey there! Well, that’s a really hard question to answer. First of all, VA is huge! But also there’s not necessarily a direct correlation between a state and the niches it has, nor is there really a way to say which is “best.” I would advise you to start by thinking in terms of areas in which you are personally knowledgeable and passionate about, and then from there, look to see how profitable those niches are.

    How much should I charge for static websites vs e-commerce websites? Vs more custom sites. Platform being Wordpress, following subscription model

      I would recommend you check out the video that I did on pricing considerations not too long ago. In general, yes, you should absolutely charge more for e-commerce websites and custom websites. At the very least you need to deal with the fact that e-commerce websites are simply bigger than others because they may have a lot of products. It’s also harder to manage them because there are more moving pieces In general, then, what you wanna do is determine an estimate for how long it would take you to set up a site like that choose a reasonable hourly rate and then start your pricing from there. Ultimately you may have to end up pricing out each site differently because no e-commerce sites are the same.

    Great info, thanks! Are your Wordpress theme website packages that you offer custom designed yourself? Also, what are your thoughts on focusing on a particular niche/vertical vs being a generalist?

      Hey there! At this time, we only do custom websites. We don't have a template-based offer at all, though we are working on something to that effect right now :) I have LOTS of thoughts on going niche vs generalist. This is the video where I went into the most detail as to my thoughts on this: ua-cam.com/video/k3Ejl8Fq3t8/v-deo.html But it's probably time to create another one simply comparing the two options. Writing that down for a future video idea!
