I studied under Mikami Shihan when he first arrived in New Orleans in the 1960s. On one occasion we had a visitor to the dojo - the current All Japan Collegiate Champion. I forgot his name. As we watched this young man we were all greatly impressed by his lightening speed. We thought he was truly the fastest man alive. Then he and Mikami Sensei did some sparing and next to Mikami Sensei he seemed to be going in slow motion. There are no words to describe the incredible speed of Takayuki Mikami.
