When the American Powerboat racing experiment with diesel engines they do poorly but in Europe they dominate! Especially the Italians! The Italian that's both racer and builder is Fabio Buzzi! His 4 engine vee bottom with a weird wing kicked ass! Those SeaTek diesels ran quiet and fast!

I remember keeping the Popeyes helicopter in our hangar in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1989 when the circuit came to Grand Haven, Michigan. That was the year it was so rough that Popeyes cracked their hull.

When offshore was really offshore not harbor racing in mini-laps. The race mileage is so short now I would not even want to put the effort in to bother going.
Average speed 88 miles an hour,amazing how times have changed.

Around 130 140 but the races are not as long either
Average speeds all depend on the water conditions..coplands boat was the fastest of the fleet of super boats .135 mph...and the enclosed Popeyes was around 145 to 150...he was so ahead of the times..so in ideal waters Popeyes would have an average of 100 to105...even the new boats today can only do a certain speed in rough water ..
Hidden fact: The China's latest space ship actually is a copy of Chuck Norris's speed boat.
