Films I have accumulated over the years from all sorts of sources. Thought it would be a good idea for them to be available to everyone before they get lost. Posted purely for enjoyment. No monetization involved.
BPA v Fairweather Green
One of the matches played at what was left at the old Park Avenue ground when the BPA Sunday League team played a season there. I managed to catch a minute on my Super 8mm camera. Any other images, reports, programme shots or details would be gratefully received so I can add more context.

Halifax Dukes in the National Trophy 1950
Переглядів 1,8 тис.4 роки тому
Dukes went on an excellent Trophy run this season. Beginning in the Second Division section by meeting Oxford who had won the Third Division Section, they went on to participate in the First Division rounds. Tremendous performances along the way but sadness too. These films are based around those made by official Odsal and Halifax cinematographer Fred Dewhurst whose excellent work deserves more...
Halifax Dukes Speedway Queen 1950 presentation followed by Sheffield match at Shay
Переглядів 4354 роки тому
1950 Speedway Queen Rita Acton is crowned by Oliver Hart at a joint Halifax and Odsal dance. There is also footage of what I believe to be the 1949 dance where another young lady takes the title. Sadly I have no further information on this yet. Loads of well known faces from each team. Also Rita is presented and speaks to the crowd at the Shay before a Sheffield match. Odsal {Bradford} Speedway in the 1970s
Переглядів 2,3 тис.4 роки тому
The only film I have so far been able to obtain of racing in this era. A few years ago i learned that ITN have a news item from the night following the 1970 opening meeting. Sadly, they wanted £800 for it so I had to pass. Pity. I'm probably on it as trackstaff. Anyway, no idea as to the when or who of this home movie clip apart from I believe the last Bradford rider, as the film closes, could ...

Sheffield v. Halifax and Hanley v. Halifax 1950

Sheffield v. Halifax and Hanley v. Halifax 1950
Gateshead lost their league status in 1960 for two reasons. First of all, there was a greyhound track at the ground, which the FA did not approve of. Second, the Third Divisions North and South were reorganised in 1958 into the Third and Fourth Divisions. Many clubs thought that a trip to Peterborough (the replacement club) would be less of an expense than a trip to County Durham. The biggest insult was the fact that the two teams below Gateshead WERE re-elected. On the 1958 reorganisation, Gateshead missed out on the Third Division by a whisker. Now 64 years later, the club could not take part in the play-offs, because there is no ground security. The owners, Gateshead Borough Council, want to sell the ground, but cannot find a buyer.
I think Chris Pusey, and Charlie Monk we're riding in the beginning, interesting listening to the rider interviews .
The early part of this shows some good wheel to wheel stuff between Arthur Forrest and Ken Le Breton (Light coloured leathers). My sister used to tell me that the races between these two fantastic rider were always eagerly anticipated. Rare footage. Thank you.
My Mum and Dad used to go to Odsal in the fifties . The number 7 was that Arthur Forrest or Eddie Rigg ? ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Is Harringay stadium still there ? ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Norwich had Ove Fundin riding back then . ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I didnt realise Yarmouth had a speedway team. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Yarmouth Bloater's They raced at the Banger racing stadium on the Caister Rd.
One thing i noticed the shale was red . ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic footage of speedway a long time ago,the crowds were massive . unfortunately nowhere near as many teams these days . ❤❤❤❤❤❤
brilliant action don't know who won Arthur hopefully 😊
amazing footage from yesteryear 😅 I still miss speedway
Football clubs never really die they lay down for a while then come back ,,
Wow...nice one...🤗🤗
Nice memories the track looks incredibly narrow though.
Wonderful...such a fabulous speedway venue, now much missed...👍👍
Fabulous...thanks for this...🤗🤗
Wow...absolutely fabulous! I first went to speedway in '66 but, in those days the '50s weren't so far away in peoples' memories. Thanks for this one and I look forward to viewing your other films...🤗🤗
Fascinating, some great action & an "interesting" commentary, well worth watching
One of my friends had this video and he treated it like solid gold. He lent it to me once and sat there while I watched before taking it straight back home.
Fascinating, only went to the Shay once , shame the stadium is only for football now
It would be great to see Gateshead back in the EFL and it could happen. Mike Williamson has done a great job so far but it will be sometime before we’re good enough to be challenging at the top end of the National league.
5th in the form table. Good sign for next season
Why not make a date in your diary, and go and see Glasgow Tigers or Edinburgh monarchs speedway racing. You may well like it.
Hi..Do you know if Ginger o Beirne is in this video?
Wonderful! a few years before I was born but I remember Odsal in the 80's and 90's and the wonderful speedway meetings. So sad there is speedway there now but still love the memories.
Simply love this as a Sheffield Tigers Speedway supporter ever since my dad introduced me to the sport in 1963 I have loved the sport. Many many thanks for posting this!!
.
nice old film, people looked happier back then
I'd like to see Gateshead in Football League again. Best wishes from a mexican magpie! :)
Good to see Oliver Hart's leg-trailing style in action. He was my Dad's favourite rider.
usual follow the leader stuff i always saw there
Absolutely superb work Shale Shifters.
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done to you and Fred Dewhurst.
Fantastic.
Love it.
Two superb riders.
