"Times table knowledge" is NOT the ONLY way to 'answer these questions', but the way that is commonly taught. eg to answer this question, you could think that an hour is 60 minutes, so four-sixths of an hour is 40 minutes. On an analogue clock, 40 minutes past the hour is displayed as '8' on the clock, with each increase in digits equal to 5 minutes. Therefore, one-eighth of 40 minutes is 5 minutes. The highest number on the clock is 12, so 5 minutes is one-twelfth of an hour, so the answer is one-twelfth. This looks far more complicated than it really is. It also demonstrates that some people can find their own way of working problems out. It's also remembering that a multiplication sign in a problem with fractions can be replaced with the word 'of', so in the example on the video, you could think 'what's four-sixths OF one-eighth'? or 'what's one-eighth OF four-sixths'? This can make the question easier to understand. I use my 'clock' example for any problem with fractions where the denominators are all factors of 60.

Much quicker method. Take off 21, which is 3×7. Leaves 540. 6×9 = 54, a third of that is 2×9 = 18. Don’t forget the zero, that’s 180+ the seven = 187. Before you do the conventional working, always look for numbers you can break off and do easier separate calculations.
