We normally sit down after New Years Eve to create a 1SE of our year…but after 2020, we just didn’t feel like it. Probably because 2020 sucked. A full year later, we found ourselves looking at 1SE videos from years past, and decided to jump back into it. Here it is!

Thank you! Quick question, I am trying to figure out if the following setup will work. We support an Orphanage in South Africa. Recently they have had a rash of break-ins and were asking about setting up security cameras. It is a large area and hard-wiring them would be almost impossible. They currently get their WiFi from a Rain , "The 101" 5G router . I was going to buy a couple of these AC mesh . One of them I would connect to the Network port of the 101, mount it on a pole and point it toward the main buildings. Then I would mount several Eufy WiFi S340 cameras (2.4 GHz0 in strategic locations. I would install the other Unifi AC mesh at the main building, run a cable down into a router for them to get WiFi. Question: Would the S340's (2.4 GHz) be able to use the signal being pumped out by the AP or does it have to go through the receiving AP?
I have an older one like this .. no matter what I put in the "reset hole" it's like no button exists inside .. thoughts?
Sounds like the reset button might be broken. If you still have the PoE injector that came with the access point, there should be a reset button on the PoE injector that may work when it's plugged into the AP.
Great video! Quick question, with the silicone grommet, does it clip around a pre-made ethernet cable or do you have to make one from scratch?
Thanks for the how-to Jay. Rogers spool story is great. Did you add any standalone mesh only units?
Yes! Added another mesh AP that is standalone, and it serves me well! I have heard that it’s a bad idea to piggyback another standalone unit off the first one…I’m gonna try it and report back!
Could anyone do me a favor that I need the mdmp of uap-ac-m and uap-ac-lite to unbrick my devices?
Can you factory reset the devices? I made a How To video for the ac-mesh ua-cam.com/video/7ybekL2GZbQ/v-deo.html
@@jtmcfarlan The memory was paded with 0xff ,so the bootloader and tftp are both failed. It need other device downgrade the oldest firmware, reboot, and ssh into it ,then run some command to make the backups of all the mtdblocks, the mtdblocks could be used to fix my device. There are about 7 to 9 mtdblocks in the memory, one contain personal privacy(the device in the setted state)and one contain device's privacy.it's better for me to get all the mtdblocks, but no matter what i got ,it would help
Do you need to use a ubiquiti switch to hook up this access point or any other branded gigabit switch would work?
Any switch should work. Before my Unifi switch, I was using a old trusty Linksys WRT54G from 2004, and the mesh network still worked.
Do you need to put a conduit on the exposed ethernet cable? Mine isn't outdoor rated but I'm fishing it on from inside and only 1 ft of it is exposed? Its under a carport as well, so its not shaded from most weather.
Well, like most plastics, the coating will degrade with UV exposure (sunlight) and if the cable is exposed, it's prone to damage (stepped on or snagged and pulled). Conduit will protect from all this...but if it's easy to replace, and a short run, and something that you don't plan on having long term....I can understand skipping the conduit. Otherwise, I would highly recommend putting the cable thru some pipe.
Hi Jay, what is the range in a clear line of sight? I'm sure I can look it up but curious from someone actually using it.
The furthest line-of-sight I can get in my backyard is about 90 feet, and there is still a strong WiFi signal (3 full bars in the wifi symbol). If you know about a good iOS app for wifi signal strength, let me know and I can get some better data for you.
@@jtmcfarlan Wifi man. Great app, actually designed by Ubiquiti.
“how to install mesh access point” *doesn’t install it as a mesh access point*
Click bait title! I just bought a second AP that will be a proper "how to mesh" video soon.
Please ! How do you detach UAP-AC-M from mounting wall bracket with level? It just seems to be not possible to remove it :(
I had this happen to me, thought it was stuck for good. Just gave it a nice bump up with my fist and it popped straight off!
@@bd0h189 Yes! I made with more force, nothing broke although that sound and feeling of doing this is very strange. :)
liked only for googly eyes ! , that's it you get no more ....
Googly eyes make everything better.
Does this have 1 or two ports? does it have lan output?
This access point has 1 port. If you want a second port for LAN output, check out this table on unifi website: unifi-network.ui.com/wi-fi#compare
Will this AP work with any router like Asus or does it have to be Unifi?
Unifi AP should work with any router. Setup is still the same, through a web browser, or the smartphone app
Needs POE router ports, otherwise you will need to use the controller included with the UAP-AC-M.
which switch do you have specifically? I bought the UniFi USW Flex Mini but noticed after i got it that i couldnt power the AP
I have the Unifi Swtich 16 POE-150W
The flex mini does not give out power. You either need to purchase a switch that is POE (power over ethernet). Or you're probably better off getting a 24volt passive poe injector. Ubiquiti has some: www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networks-POE-24-12W-G-Injector-Black/dp/B01DW99IPS Or on the ubiquiti store. Then you can use your flex mini. Run the wire to the mesh ap, and at the mesh ap location you'll need power/outlet for the poe injector.
Hi Jay! I live in Clinton and I came across your video! I have a few specific questions for you. I send you a pm on fb, or would you like me to ask you here?
Hey Mel. Glad we connected on facebook messages...I didn't realize I was getting comments here!
Great video. My question is, with it being at the back of the house, are you able to also receive signal without line of sight in the front of house with the same AP?
Yes, I get a good signal in the front of the house too...no line-of-sight needed. However, the more stuff in the way (walls, trees, etc) the weaker the signal. Sorry for the delayed reply...didn't realize I was getting comments on this video.
I really find this entertaining
