New to channel Where on the Platte did you go fishing at in this video? Looks nice
Caught trout there with a single size14 perdigon
if you like having someone fishing 10 feet from you, you will love this place
@@andywiggens1069 surprisingly there wasn’t many people around that day, this past year I been going to more sacluded areas, fish are smaller but I have had streams to myself for almost 2 miles!
Please make sure to wet your hands before handling trout, every time. Tight lines!
Hey! After rewatching it I can see how where it looks like I didn’t but I edited out wetting the hands and taking the hooks and stuff out! Will make sure I continue to apply it though! Tight lines!
If you ever want to fish up in Grand County, happy to show you around.
I definitely need to take up that offer, unfortunately my fishing has been very very slow due to having a kid now but she’s almost to the age where I can bring her along!
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 Sounds good. I'm pretty much done fishing for the year but will pick up again in the spring/summer next year. Send me a PM and I can give you my contact information.
That first spot y'all were at was where I caught my first fish ever, 7 inch brown on a chubby chernobyl. Awesome!
@@TooMuchCheez7 that is awesome to hear!! Im sure that spot will always mean more to you than just another spot on the river! Great story and I’m glad I was able to capture the spot for you!
Love fishing that size creek ! Nice brown's !!
Big rivers are fun but man there is nothing better than being tucked away in the middle of the woods in a stream with no other people fishing! Thanks for the comment and tight lines my friend!
Awesome footage and editing
Appreciate it! Always Trying to improve!
Taking my son for our first trip to the canyon. Was awesome to see you have such a great day and really enjoy it out there. Congrats!
Sorry for the late response! Man that is awesome to hear, please let me know how the fishing went! I’m sure your son is going to have a blast!! Best of luck man and tight lines!
Good trick I always use in 11 Mile is a small Stimulator like size 12 I tie them with CDC wing so they float well and then use a size 18 or so dropper nymph pheasant tail mostly on about 2 to 3 foot
Appreciate the advice I will have to try that! I tried doing an adjustable dry dropper and after moving and tightening the loop it ended up breaking so I’m trying to find an easier way to do it so I will definitely be giving this a shot! Tight lines my friend!
wet your hand before handling those fish bro.
I do every time, i edit parts of clips out, most people aren’t going to put 100% of video, would be a 3 he long video if I didn’t. I’ll make sure to keep some of it in to show me wetting my hand for every fish
Good to see you posting again. Did you get on the ice this past season?
Glad to be back! I was able to get out on the ice one time this season and I got skunked and wasn’t able to go back! Hopefully my daughter is old enough to bring out next season! Tight lines my friend
Good job, dude
Appreciate it!!
4wt?
This one’s a 5wt!
Piutyour net on your back with a magnet.
I had one but it broke! I need to buy a new one though!
Appreciate the video! Just got an outboard and I fish lake Pueblo a lot so this was very informative for me!
I’m glad I was able to give a little bit of help, I’m no expert but I was able to find what works for me at least, can’t wait until this springs to go try for some walleye! Best of luck my friend on your future fishing adventures
👌🏾 good to hear im super stoked to get my autopilot outhere this spring!
Thats badass brother i just bought me a Autopilot 120 4 months ago im so ready to use it im siriously thinking of taking it out there to Pueblo im in Aurora! Mabe get together sometime go fish outhere
Appreciate it! I am down to meet up, I wanna try getting into some walleye once the water warms up! I wanna fill the freezer! Let me know and we can definitely set something up
Ok tips for the south platte in general. I have no idea what fly you tied on in the beginning but that's not going to work. Run a hopper dropper set up up if you're trying to nymph in the winter or run streamers
I think that was when I was in the process of learning to fly fish, I heard of a hopper dropper but not sure how to rig it up, I will have to give that a shot.. I think I might go back this week and try some streamers
Taking my spin rod out to do some streaming tomorrow. That's why I'm here haha
What length and action gx2 do you recommend for the jawjacker!!? Thanks
The spacing between the flies 6-12 inches or a little more? Looks great out there might be coming out this year ! Happy Fishing!
I usually shoot for about 12 because sometimes i when I go shorter “on accident” it tends to hook the top fly at times! Best of luck to you as well and hope your able to come and enjoy the beauty
Deckers is where I caught my first 7Lb 24-inch Rainbow It is easy access and good fishing.....most of the time.
I bet that was a thrill pulling that one in! I love deckers just because it’s close and beautiful scenery!
Bro what bells are you using. I’ve had the worse luck finding one that clip well and actually stay upright on the rod.
The ones I use are from sportsman’s warehouse, they do have their difficulties once in a blue moon but overall they were the best ones I could find www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/fishing-accessories/other-fishing-tools/p-line-luminous-glow-clip-on-rod-bell-fishing-alarm-2pk/p/1628685
But can you thread the arrow between the flesh and the soul?
Haven’t got to hunt with this bow yet, plan on taking it hunting next fall
Hey, great shot. What bow it that?
Appreciate it 💪 it’s a monarch, my dad had it custom made some years ago, shoots phenomenal
Hey, man. Nice shot....
Appreciate it 💪
Doubt. Those don’t look like they were fired from a recurve. Thing flew too straight. Unless you aren’t shooting from the shelf.
60 lb recurve with tuned arrows, a lot of people shoot the wrong spine which results in poor flying my arrows, I wouldn’t have a reason to lie or make a fake video lol
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 I’ve just never seen one fly so straight…I don’t have the right gear. I can throw mine straighter if the arrow’s too stiff.
Ya you just have to fine tune it, sometimes even just adding a higher grain field point, even length plays a huge factor depending on the spine, these are 400 at 60 lbs
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 mine is no more. Snapped in half the day after my grandpa died. It was a Fred Bear 55lb, pretty teal color. I cried a bit when it snapped ngl
He better don’t use it to kill animals
Why not?
Nice..
Appreciate it!
what month do you go there for fishing ?
So I have only been there twice and it was only during the early summer months around may or June, I can imagine it would be decent in winter just slower
What rod would you recommend for a jaw jacker?
Honestly I like ugly stick rods for or these because they are pretty fair price compared to higher end ones, I use a medium just because you have to bend it down quite a ways to set it!
A+ I used to fish the Arkansas back in the 1980s
I’m sure you have many many memories on that river, I like the fact that you can spread out on that river to get away from the crowd!
Are you using a go pro on your chest while you’re fishing?
Yes I use a chest mount, tried using the head mount but there is just way to much movement with it!
Dude, you need to get the camera girl in the water w/the rod and you run the camera. 😉
I know right! You wouldn’t believe how many times I tried to get her to do it but she refuses! She only likes ice fishing!
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 well next summer you put a vest on her and some hip waders and take her to an easy spot with a nice backdrop….when she sees the subs pile up she’ll change her tune
NIce. I was there last week and hooked on some decent size walleyes, but wished I had more time. Looking at this video, it seems like you continue to pedal during your hookups (i.e. @5:47) and that contributes to your break/hook offs. Great vid man!
Appreciate the kind words and tips! Sorry for the late reply, just welcomed new baby to the world so had to take a little time off from the world! Tight lines my friend
Gorgeous video! Just a tip, keep a finger on you fly line at the top of your grip. You'll be less likey to lose tension.
Appreciate the tip! Sorry for the late reply, just welcomed new baby to the world so had to take a little time off!
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 congratulations!
That sir was a spotted bass, not a largemouth. Those spotted bass are more aggressive then the LMB and are all over this lake, the state record is around 17.75 inches and just under 4.5 lbs, caught 3 miles down the road at the VALCO ponds, very fun fish to target.
get up by the dam....trophy trout up there!!
I will have to give it a shot! You ever fish there around this time of the year?
Great video mate!
Appreciate it!! I Need to get back out on the stream!!
I LOVE Deckers! Im a spinning angler myself, and that river is easily one of the best I've ever fished! 8:15 is One of the BEST honey holes on the river. ESPECIALLY at sunrise.
Same here my friend! I have never had a bad day at that place! Some days are better than others but even the view makes it worth it!!! Tight lines my friend!
@onthelineoutdoors6974 100% I unfortunately had to move to Az due to family health, i miss that river sooo much! Absolutely gorgeous river too!
Great video man!! I’ve been having a tough time with finding spots in deckers? If you don’t mind, do you know any good areas on the river to fish or the spots on the video?
I feel ya, it took me a while there but it all came down to me using to big of flies, so for areas, I go right past the little store area in deckers and go about half a mile or so past it down river and just park on those little side road parking areas, I would try using smaller flies about size 22 or so and using a little bit thinner tippet like 6x, that’s what helped me there, I know others would probably have better advice but I think that would be a solid start, I haven’t been there since this video but plan on going one of these days because I know this time of year can change many things. I hope this helped, let me know how you do if you go out there and best of luck to you my friend!
Very nice!
Appreciate it 💪 not a monster but decent size for the place I fish!
Too the moon baby!
You didn’t happen to be fishing today 9/29 in deckers were ya?
No sir, I haven’t been there in quite a while, been doing some elk hunting, planning on making a trip there soon though!
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 ah bummer. I was out there and saw some guy who looked like ya fishing. He was filming it all so wasn’t sure if it was you. We caught some good footage of him hooking some chonkers
fished the Arkansas headwaters for the first time last Saturday, just outside salida. Was a blast. Got a couple good eats on some big ole hoppers but didn't land anything
I’m not going to lie, Arkansas river has always been a challenge for me, I think mainly is because of the flow and I’m used to fishing calmer smaller rivers. Always a blast though and I would try some smaller black or copper colored flys, that’s what I got the best luck on! Tight lines my friend 💪
@@onthelineoutdoors6974 Cheers Mate. I appreciate the advice. Fish on.
Nice, but grabbing, stroking and holding teout out of the water so long for a film op is no good. Its in the net, no need to hand wrestle it out.
I don’t remember stroking fishing but I will have to remember that for the next time I have the urge to stroke them!
I love the fact that you are honest about your fly fishing skills. Keep fishing, as you say it’s frustrating but some of the most fun you will have. And as far as the tangles and knots go….you couldn’t do them on purpose if you tried.
I carry plenty of leaders now because some of these knots get out of hand!!! Every time I go out, I notice that my skill continue to improves and its amazing to see how bad I was my first year was and now being able to go out and actually catch fish. these are memories that will last a lifetime!
Good stuff dude, hooked up a few nice ones! Just a heads up man, you handle the fish alott, I see your trying to do the right thing but get your hands wet before u grab em and keep it to a minimum. Fish need that film on them and if you rubbing all over em and grabbing w dry hands it can cause issues for the fish. As you get better your handle time and technique will get better as well. I live in Vail if you ever want to hit some remote spots give me holler. Always down to throw some lines ✊🏼
Loon Fly Dip works awesome as well!!
I will have to give that a shot!! I think The spray I have makes them sink 😂!
