Bonnie Spindler, The Victorian Specialist, has been advocating for and educating about historic properties for more than 30 years. During that time, she has restored homes of her own and helped other people buy and sell heritage homes. She believes that one of the best ways to preserve the planet for future generations is to reuse, repurpose and rejoice in older homes that are made of sterner stuff than today's building materials. Not only is it a tragedy to tear down or replace vintage homes that consist of old-growth building materials, but it also adds to carbon emissions as they decay in the dump. Heritage homes preserve some of our past while paying the savings forward for future generations.

Alamo Square historically played a role in the opulent homes of the Gilded Age and unlike other areas of the city was not burned or destroyed by The 1906 earthquake. This segment discusses the last Gilded Age and the new one we are experiencing now. If you were standing on Alamo Hill in 1776, you were likely walking or riding a horse between the Mission San Francisco de Asis and the El Presidio...

Sonoma is so much more than its fabulous wine and agricultural production. It can be traced back to our earliest origins as a state. The Bay Area has been under the Spanish flag, the Mexican flag, the California Bear, and the American flag. Sonoma was part of Alto California during the Mexican Land Grant era and was home to General Vallejo. When California became a state the Bear Flag was hoist...

The Miwok (Ohlone) Indians were the original inhabitants of the Contra Costa area. They hunted deer, elk, bear, and antelope. They fished salmon, drank from the mountain streams, and harvested shellfish from the Bay. In 1772, the Spanish started exploring the area, built settlements in 1775 in San Francisco’s Presidio, and established the Mission Dolores. Juan Salvio Pacheco joined the military...

When John Maher retired to Petaluma, California, he couldn't just stay home. He decided to start playing piano on the city streets, busking. His presence is what I talk about to first-time visitors because of the charm and old-time feel it adds to the atmosphere of Petaluma. When his presence on the streets day in and day out made him famous and a local hero, he used his position for a good cau...

What an informative and delightful video. Thank you.
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Subscribe so as I create new ones you are the first to see it.
The original owner didn’t purchase a land buffer behind it? Disappointing.
Most of the homes in San Francisco are built touching. Even if houses had an extra side lot, most were sold off during the tough times of the Depression or high energy costs of the 1970s and 1980s.
What a house and a good guide. Not every viewing pleasure needs an overpowering musical accompaniment. For what it's worth I found it rather distracting.
I find it depends on the device you are viewing it on. But good feedback.
Beautiful
Thank you! It is so nicely cared for. Hope we find a great new owner. Please subscribe so you can see my next video.
Sorry but I can’t see when you’re standing and mostly film yourself!! MOVE!!
A gorgeous house...the Victorians designed beautifully and built well. I think the style is more commonly known as Queen Ann.
I've never seen one where the wood isn't stained super dark. This is so bright !
Yes!!! I agree! Oak is lighter in general than mahogany.
Love to see these beautiful homes taken care of.
you know, you really didn't say anything about the subject of your video, why was that?
Great house too bad the interior was destroyed by a beige mom.
You’re a real estate agent. Please don’t sell it to a person who won’t treasure it. The way SF is going I worry it won’t survive
We are looking for the next great caretaker.
I don't ever see such beautidul bright colors in nice houses, I guess a lot of people think good taste equalls neutrals and monochrome. The staircase is one of my favorite parts, is it possible to go up to the witch hats? I'd love to visit, it's just a Bart ride away.
It’s true that a lot of people seem to gravitate towards neutrals and monochrome, but it is so refreshing to see houses with personality and color! The Victorians loved bright colors on the inside. The outsides were more muted. Yes, both witches caps are rooms. There is also an attic.
@@bonniespindlerthevictorian6148 Thank you! I wish television reflected the Victorian use of bright colors inside, my main impression is from the original Dark Shadows. (Oh dear I just noticed I said "ho up" instead of "go up," lol, had to fix that).
I was living at home without hesitation, It is positively stunning #Aztec73
I managed the restoration of chateau Tivoli when Dr Rodney Kar owned it
Lovely home!!!
Thank you so much!
I lived around the corner from this house for 12 years. I had no idea the interior was so amazing. Thanks for the great video!
I love how much history is right under our noses! You are so welcome. Subscribe so you can see the next one.
Excellent information and video footage. Thank you.
Looks more like Queen Anne architecture than the Chateaux style
Let’s hope it can survive better than other places in SF.
Agreed!!! Subscribe to my channel to see the next one I cover.
Great video. I hope the property is sold to a buyer who can continue to preserve the building’s history and legacy.
I think this is one of the best surviving Victorians in SF. I must have walked by it thousands of times when I lived in the neighborhood. I always admired it - it’s a real eye catcher. I’m glad she mentioned the importance to preserve it.
Stops people in their tracks. Hope we find a great new steward.
Great video, great building.I have photographed the outside on 2 visits to SF.Thanks for letting us see the inside.
You are so very welcome!!
We want!
I completely understand!!!
Awesome job Julia Morgan 🎉

Hi Bonnie. I'm a life long History Geek 🤓 Absolutely ❤ the Victorians, as well as the other styles. But 600 B Street has always been my favorite. Not too big. Not to small. Stunning Masterpiece. Great Video !!
Fun to see all my favorite people and houses. Great work, Bonnie!
I like how fast paced it is
Miss you!!
Miss you too!!! You are overdue for a trip west.
Beautiful!! I mean you Bonnie..
Amazing and we love Pond Street
I'm amazed that this house looks bigger on the inside than the outside!! Beautiful!!!
Right?! and the amenities belie its size as well.
Wow the best real estate agent’s video . I came from Redfin . You make it very attractive to me
Vid says 2597 / but 2594 is stated.
This is wonderful video you made! So much history and then current useful information! Great condo! Good job!!!
😘
Hi Bonnie! It was so nice to meet you at the Blue Lady last night. I hope you are feeling better. I managed to get a tour set up with Jim Siegal in December. I’m excited! Looking forward to chatting with you again. Have a great Thanksgiving. 😊
One of the best houses ever.
Thank you ❤️👏
Bonnie-- This video was fantastic... the history is fascinating and is a huge part of why i love selling real estate in San Francisco.
Hi Bonnie, it has been many years since our paths crossed, but watching your video on 201 Bassett St. was such a happy investment of time! You are obviously outstanding at your chosen profession, but you are also an excellent host and storyteller. I think you know that my brother Tom lives in Folsom, CA with his wife and two girls. They come to San Francisco regularly as both of the girls play on travel sports teams that participate in tournaments around the city. Thank you for the entertaining video and I wish you all the best.
Love you!!

Great production Bonnie. Hope to meet you some fine day. :-)
It's great to see someone so passionate and knowledgable about the history and architecture of San Francisco.
I really love what I do. Glad you enjoy the UA-cam channel. There are new segments regularly.
Definitely some strong prairie influences.
Totally agree. And yet completely different than everything else she did in Petaluma. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. And an architect no less!!
Such a beautiful home in the perfect location. I love your videos. Thanks for the wonderful historical information.
It was such an honor and pleasure to represent the house and to take a deep dive into the career of Julia Morgan, where most people only know that she designed San Simeon for William Randolf Hearst.
I’m loving watching these videos of yours, you have such a passion for what you do that inspires me!
Thank you so much! I do love it and am very gratelful I found it.
Who lives there now or is it a museum now?
No, it is still a personal residence!
I grew up in this house! What a lovely tour, brought back so many memories! Thank you.
This home deserves to be owned by someone who can restore it to its original glory!
