    Do you have a way to cut them, like some kind of table saw? I think that the ones that are heavier maybe agatized. I'm sure you know the coloring/banding/chalcedony in them would be indicators of that. They could possibly help you in finding out if you want to cut it or not. Being new myself I have been using my UV light a lot. It helps me see the stuff inside that can't see with the naked eye. Maybe one could help you as well, that or that new dig microscope LOL As always love the videos thanks for sharing Happy Hounding

    WOW! look at the yellow in that one. I haven't seen any in the videos so far. I was curious if any of them when you clean them retain their color like the yellow in this one. Do you think this will go ALL white when you clean it? you use iron out to clean them right?

    My best guess is the lines are crystal growth and it probably was up against other crystals but they have been moved around over the centuries. The crystals probably metamorphosed into whatever that rock is today. But I am not a geologist. I’m basing my guess on what I’ve seen and heard other people say.

    I always thought that the striation lines on quartz was the way it was growing. After watching your video, I was curious myself. Here is what I found on "AI App" I am sure you most all of this I hope maybe something will help. . . Growth Lines: These are natural lines that form as the quartz crystal grows. They can sometimes appear as horizontal or wavy lines on the surface. Veins or Inclusions: Quartz often contains other minerals or impurities that can form lines or patterns within the crystal. These can look different from the usual striations. Surface Etching or Weathering: If the quartz has been exposed to the elements, it might have developed lines or patterns due to weathering or chemical reactions on the surface. Polishing Marks: If the quartz has been polished, the lines could be marks left from the polishing process .. . . It does say at the bottom after all the above examples to look at the lines under microscope/jeweler's tool maybe you can learn some info doing so. Good luck I hope you find out what/why they are. Thanks for sharing always love your videos

    What do you clean them with when they’re soaking in the bucket? I found stones in my driveway (much smaller than what you have) and I sat with a bucket of water and a toothbrush to clean most of the grass and gravel dust from them. It was a tedious and painstaking process… 😂😂😂 Still not sure what they are, but they glow too 😀🙌

    • @jimsgems74
      @jimsgems74 19 днів тому

      So, what you are seeing is just my cleaned rocks in a metal bucket full of just plain water. My secret is simple, I buy a product called Iron Out because most of the rocks in South Carolina are stained with red clay mud or soil with a lot of iron in it. I fill my bucket of rocks up with water to cover them and then pour in about a cup of iron out and then let them sit for up to 7 days. It may not take that long, and more iron out is not better. In fact, when they dry they will become chalky looking if you use too much, but that will do the trick.

      This area has quite a few old gold mines, and one large defunct kyanite mine. An adjacent county has the largest operating gold mine in the US. That kyanite mine location is still being monitored by the EPA due to contamination that occurred when they originally mined it. So, there are instances of these types of rocks and minerals being in the area. The state rock is also amethyst, and over the line in Mecklenburg county the largest emerald mined was found there, so we have the possibility to find some really nice rocks here.

Fill the water so it is covering them completely and put iron out in the water. Start off with a small amount (in 2 gallons I might use half a cup of iron out). Leave for roughly a week then pull them out and wash them off. I use iron out because SC soil is very muddy and iron rich. You might not need that in your area.

Our state gemstone for SC is Amethyst, so it is not out of the realm of possibility. My passion for these rocks lies in the fact that something so dirty and ugly to begin with can be cleaned up and shown in a different perspective that someone might never see. I love that!

    What are these rocks? What do you do with them?

      The yare some type of quartz but I am not quite sure. Some of them have unique colorations that have caused me to start asking academia what I might have. For now, I am not doing anything with them. I am categorizing them into groups based on their transparency or translucence so I can display them, but other than that I am doing nothing.
