Excellent vid, and a few rough draft thoughts of my own I had. This all being drastically different take on what New Dawn could have done with it's story and setting, and ultimately having little to do with what the game currently offers as is... So... 17 to even 20 years is all well within one lifetime, while it may be enough time for some individuals to change, it makes no sense that a cult trapped in essentially their own echochamber for 17 to 20 years would suddenly go from the violent, county-conquring, actually competent threat we saw in 5 to just being a bunch of hillbilly hippies with sticks we see in New Dawn. Have them actually retain that identity into ND, maybe Joseph or his son adopt different views on how things should be, but the cult at large, now fully aware there's no going back thanks to the Nuclear fallout, are more devoted than ever to Seed's "vision" for the future. The cult may still help the player against the highwaymen, but you see ALOT more grit to them, like they may straight up blood eagle highwaymen they captured, or savagely brutalize them into defeat. You could even hear in-game dialogue from the Highwaymen talking about how they're scared of them, further hitting home that, when the cult said they'd help you against the highwaymen, they *really* meant it. And as for *why* the cult is actually helping you, rather than just giving you the same treatment, well, we already have those reasons in the game. Between the book and "overcoming your sin" the cult would view you as the defacto leader despite Ethan being an actual leader for the past several years, because their nuclear fire and brimstone saviour Joseph Seed said so. Thus, under your request, they go on the offensive, striking out against the highwaymen. Up until this point, they were defending themselves just fine, but now that they actually have a reason to go on the offensive, they make a massacre. Rush's initial assessment of the highwaymen would prove to be somewhat true, they're by and large unorganized and... Kinda stupid, as the player would see from their leaders. The cult WAS the sole power over Hope county, and in some ways, beyond during Far cry 5. They managed to either put down or convert damn near any other redneck or good ol' boy with a gun that stood in their way to taking control. And now that they had plenty of time to rebuild, repopulate, and become even MORE devoted to their ways, they would be ready to show just how much of a threat they still were. Upon being ordered to attack the highwaymen, they outright expand their territory, wiping out any highwaymen in the surrounding area, erecting the aforementioned blood eagles and cultist imagery in the area. From here, they help you in raiding strongholds, making sure to do the same thing on every newly liberated stronghold. In random patrols, the Cultists wipe the floor with the highwaymen, no longer just relying on the bows and arrows they proved to be deadly effective with, but now actively scavenging guns and ammo off the highwaymen. The cult shows that they are truly an inhuman and powerful force to be reckoned with, sparing no mercy and going out of their way to do more cruel and depraved acts to wipe out the "sinners" that remained when they shouldn't have, afterall Joseph Seed said that destroying the world would rid them of the sinners, yet they're still here... So they take your order to help you fight the Highwaymen as a declaration of war, a great crusade to purge the land of the sinners. This would actually provide more depth and emotional investment with the act of becoming the leader of the cult, suddenly you are unwittingly pushed into the role of leader to an absolutely insane cult, and every order you give, every way you try to lead them, no matter how carefully worded, gets misinterpreted into commiting some other awful crime against nature. From here, there's plenty of places the story could go. The player could try to thrust leadership back into Ethan's hands, realizing that he was the only one keeping these crazy cultists contained and could potentially help them break free of their delusions to see things without the influence of his father's words again, as he mentions beforehand. (This would be the sort of "neutral" ending, and perhaps the ending could change for better or worse depending on your actions throughout the game) You could seek out Joseph Seed in desperation, not content to trust all these people back in the hands of Ethan, who is clearly still very flawed and immature in his own ways, and not confident in your own ability to handle the cult, knowing it's well beyond your control. (haven't fully thought this one out, but I imagine it would be similar to siding with Seed in the past, it's clearly the most extremist/wild card ending, if not outright just the bad ending. Alternatively though, Seed's time in isolation and reflection on how nuking the world went, he may actually be seeking genuine redemption, giving you the choice to either kill him or hear him out on his guidance for what to do as the leader of the cult. in this interpretation, Seed is very much still meant to be a crazy cultist guy, he's just crazy in a much different direction now. (Less "Go my son, do a crime" and more "I must find a new Shepard for my flock, for I have led them astray.") And alternatively, there could be two other possible endings. One where you continue trying to lead the cult on your own, which would ultimately lead into several different endings depending on how you lead them, but the general vibe would be "insanity ending" to "chaotic neutral" depending on how you do, or you could choose, in classic Farcry fashion, to just outright leave from the leadership role. You go to get you and your remaining freinds, and try to make your way out of Hope county, out of it all, in search of better places elsewhere, maybe somewhere untouched by the nukes. (This ending would leave on a cliffhanger, where either they're attacked by the highwaymen on their way out (and possibly "saved" by the cult in the process) or they actually manage to make it out and into an uncertain future. (This could be impacted by what point you decide to start the "leave" ending and what choices you made to that point.) General point being, there is no "good" ending in this rewrite, either you manage to leave with many things unresolved, but your sanity and morality still mostly intact, or you go full force into the madness of this new apocalypse, with lots of variations and room for the player to decide what is truly the best ending for themselves. And ultimately, either riding out into a New Dawn... Or fighting to see a New Dawn fall upon the apocalypse.

I liked the gameplay. Barely even knew the story till it was forced upon me.
