Exceptional explanation. Eliminates the "fear factor" obstacle to using the great Grip-Lock products. In next vid how about showing how to use a plumb bob to locate the suspension points precisely over a point on a floor, table, etc.

Can you do a vid on JUST cable track lighting?? I've seen it installed through exposed beems and I'd love to know how to do that! I would love to see low profile, cable lighting...

Dear Rachel: Even with low voltage systems some local codes or even just over-cautious electrical inspectors will require that "conductors that run through combustible materials be isolated from that material by a metal conduit". An easy way to do this is to use 1/8" IPS threaded pipe. IPS means Iron Pipe size (not relevant). Just over 3/8" outside diameter. This pipe is fully threaded for the entire length and is the very common part you see on table lamps and in ceiling boxes. I've bought 24" and 36" pieces. Cheap. Jamb two nuts together to guide side of hack saw and remove nuts to clean up threads. Be sure to de-burr inside diameter with a countersink or round file. You can use the pipe flush to the face of the beams or add a "check ring" and decorative finger nut in antique brass, etc. if you desire. You can go online and look for instruction sheets from companies selling cable systems. Maybe this will help you firm up a strategy for your project. Contact me if you need more info.
