This song is… just. wow. Last time it was preformed (by another choir), a little girl had died in a car crash right outside their school. They learned that their performance was in the same church just 2 hours after the little girl’s memorial service. Today was supposed to be a friend’s memorial service (before it was moved to Wednesday). We are preforming this song today for honor choir. Also once a lady had to play the piano for it only a few months after she watched her husband tragically die then she slipped and shattered her elbow. This song has meaning. It has the most incredible, magical timing. I’m in awe.
Just heard this song, why is the spot with a rock crown saying Shakespearean stuff?
minos prine reference❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️
we are singtnimg is in symphonic choir in high and taking it omea comp
I am singing this song for District Quoir
By far my MOST favorite 2-pt Treble piece!
Truly beautiful. Nothing like a choir to make you cry
Beautiful!!!!!
3:20 That part is beautiful
Cameron Carnley I played this on the 5 String Cello. A great Choral version.
This is my favorite version of this piece, sang it SATB in college. Does anyone know publisher/arranger?
such a beautiful song. i sang this song with my choir last year and this song is forever so special to me!
I read this at my mums funeral
My choir is singing this on October 5th at our Fall Concert! I’m so excited to sing this, I’m an Alto 1 this year! I was a Soprano 1 last year and I never completely understood how beautiful the Alto part was until I became one :)
Beautifully sung! Thank you for sharing.
Technically lovely, but missing the passion. Many of the composer’s specific markings are ignored. The tempo is too slow, and several dynamic instructions are not observed. While directors have interpretive freedom, composers’ clear intentions should be honored. The performance falls short of what it could be by not being true to what’s on the page.
この曲OK
No matter how many guys you put in the choir this song will always sound like it’s in soprano. I had to sing this with 42 guy and 40 girls, it was still alto-soprano
My choir at FHS are singing this song and I actualy really like it
If our lives cause the earth's destruction, or to die. Mother earth's voice would probably pre tell us all something like this for us not to stand or expect to be within the void of space where she once cradled us for life. Mother earth is not within the grave within the heavens, she is within the flows of the rest of the planet's and stars being. Within their airs, flowers, and trees. Do not stand at her grave of empty presence, and weep, she will not be there, but she did not die. She lives as sustenance for the rest of her sisters, brothers, mothers, and fathers as earthen souls as planet's own children but now as not her own. Yes, her babes may cry out for her but she will no longer be there to listen close, from whence they once beckoned within. She now listens within her children that survived.
I'm diong this song for my chior it's beautiful song and it's for competition
My middle school choir is singing this and When we first heard it some of us started crying. Beautiful song.
My choir is singing this song next week for our Fall Concert. My choir director is dedicating it to two of his students who died last year in two different car accidents.
Good luck!
This is one of my audition songs for a large choir in my area, and the other day in my choir class, we talked about the meaning of it, read aloud the words, and listened to it with our eyes closed, and over half of us (including the boys) started crying
Side note: that wasn't even our first time hearing it and we had been singing it for about a week before this and we still managed to sob over it
You're auditioning for All-West too😂
ayy good luck you guys !!
Mora Kenton Official Bailey, did u guys make it, i sang this song for all state in texas
Another update: I'm currently going through the loss of someone important to me, and I requested that audio of this choir singing this song be played at the funeral.

I wish I was back in choir
This song is very difficult to sing but any Bach song is and this sounded beautiful
Magnificent performance of one of my favorites! Thank you for posting.

Superbe interprétation de cette oeuvre si émouvante. Bravo !

ONE OF MY FAVORITES MELODIES, REASON BEING THAT MY GIRLFRIEND WON ON THE SOLO
I remember singing this in honor choir I had 3 days to learn 5 songs of different languages and it was amazing :) this was my fav of all 💚
😬😬😬😬😀😀😀😀
my choir is singing this song too and I sing second soprano
So far of all the highschool videos of this song being performed, this is the only one that seems to have the tempo down, Very nice. I had to learn this song to audition for my highschool madrigals choir so very many years ago.
I sang this with my choir in 7th grade with all girls as well. I think you all sounded awesome!! Great tribute to a beautiful piece.
As one of the girls singing in this, yes we are all white, but i thought we did a fantastic job. Especially considering that learning this song, which is absolutely amazing, made most of us want to rup our hair out!
Thank you soo much for posting this video! I can't even begin to tell you how this helped me figure out my part when we were singing this in choir at school.
We are singing this song for choir (6th grade)
I sang this in 6th grade too, way back in 1993. :)
There are a lot of things to say about this performance. The choir sounds very present: you can hear a few little background noises here and there. I like that in a choral recording. If there's any criticism I have about this recording, it's that it is too fast in some places. But, the rubato is very, very well done; excellent phrasing.
Composer is Matthew Harris, amazing music
I can tell white people are singing this... When my choir sang this back in elementary school we blew the door open!
I don't see the need for anyone to say what THEY think should be better. I challenge anyone commenting to be able to do better than Heather does with her groups. Beautiful job, Heather Orr and Montgomery women. I am proud to have you in our state. :)
No matter how well they did, musicians can always can improve. As a musician, we can never grow content in our skill. We must always be reaching higher. That's what I love about music, there is no perfection we can always improve and always convey the message of our music ever better. We are messangers who can always do better
Then work on improving yourself, Bryan! It is not your job to tell Heather how to improve her performances. Thanks for masking pretentiousness under the guise of a higher calling.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. My son's Freshman HS Chorale performed the piece surrounding the rails in three levels of the Rotunda in the Texas State Capitol Building (you know, the one that's bigger than the one in Washington DC). The acoustics were incredible, though. I think we stopped the State from functioning for the duration of the song. One guy who stepped out into the a hallway said, he thought he had died and was listening to Angels! Beautiful!
The translation is really amusing.
I'm doing this for an adjudicated performance
