This painting is a 24"x 18" oil on linen. I photographed the model at my studio for reference. I find this convenient because I can choose the most interesting pose. I look for some attitude and or expression that brings the model to life.

Drawing is the key to all representational art, since it’s the foundation for painting in watercolor, oils, pastel. As such drawing doesn’t need be super realistic to be considered representation. Curioous that the light on her face comes from the left, but her chin shadow has the light coming from the right.
You have keen eye, thanks. I had the light coming from the upper her upper right, and I did not want too much shadow on her chin. It would have given her a bit of a beard. Thank you for you insight and comment.
Interesting to see how each painter follows a different technique. He starts with a space and refines it and only then moves on to another area. While other painters go from the general to the particular, leaving the details or parts with more details for later. Interessante ver como cada pintor segue uma técnica diferente. Esse começa por um espaço e vai refinando ele e só depois passa para outra área. Enquanto outros pintores vão do geral para o particular, deixando os pormenores ou partes com mais detalhes para depois.
