    • @Avenuecool

      The Sunburn Bass that I use is a custom jazz bass that I designed myself. It’s basically a Squier Jazz Bass Body with an aftermarket unbranded neck. With a Specially Designed Pickguard. With an Audere 4 Band PreAmp. I’ve been wanting to build my own bass for quite a while. So it’s my Signature Bass. I also have a Marcus Miller Sire V5 and several other Jazz Basses. What style basses do you have. And if you have any questions about bass playing I will be glad to share my knowledge with you. Thanks for taking the time to comment

      @Avenuecool hey there! Not sure why it held my comment. But the first thing I noticed was how shallow the breaths you were taking are. If you were to take nice full deep breaths,it will help you relax on the horn and able to push through the horn. My advice, every day for part of your practice session, forget about anything else and just do long tones. As slow as possible hold a note going, haaaaa, taaaaaaa, taaaaa.

    • @hincapiej4
      @hincapiej4 Місяць тому

      So, haaaaa (breath attack) 1 2 3 4, ta (light tongue) 1 3 , ta 3 4 (holding the last 4 long as you can). Then start again. I promise you, after a while doing that, your control and tone will improve alot. I'm gonna link you something of me playing to give you an idea where I am at in this journey

    • @hincapiej4
      @hincapiej4 Місяць тому

      It also sounds like you could do well with a harder reed or more open mouthpiece. Sometimes resistance really helps too

    • @Avenuecool
      @Avenuecool Місяць тому

      @@hincapiej4 UA-cam is very strange at times. It used to give me copyright strikes on my own music. But thanks so much. I do realize that breathing is a difficult task for me so I appreciate your input. I use a 2.5 Strength Reed And the Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. I am considering upgrading my mouthpiece once I get more advanced on the instrument. I notice resistance when my Reed needs modification. So I don’t think that the Reed strength or mouthpiece are the problem. But I will definitely give the 3 Strength Reeds a try as per your suggestion. As for Long Tones. I usually do them daily for 5 minutes or so. But they get boring. So thanks for the lesson notes. I look forward to the link. Maybe we can do an online collaboration of a Jazz Standard with me on bass and you on Sax. I’m working on Round Midnight right now. Once again, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with me

    Thanks man! I love it when Marcus plays "outside" of his norm. It might sound odd but his playing here reminds me of David Gilmour...yep the guitar player from Pink Floyd David Gilmour. Obviously not in his tone, I mean he is playing a Bass and not a guitar after all. It's his ownership and over all command of his instrument. The way he is playing is not at all predictable, but it sounds so dam well put together, like it all fits because he is making it fit. I have been listening to Marcus since he was backing Luther and to me there just isn't anyone who can play like him, its like he makes you forget that you are listening to a Bass Guitar...then he lays down something cool and reminds ya that he is in fact doing it on a Bass!

    • @Avenuecool
      @Avenuecool 6 місяців тому

      Hi @DD, Thanks for commenting on the video. I totally agree with you. Marcus is an exceptional bassist. He studied Jazz at as a teenager. Worked with MIles Davis at the age of 20 or 21. I'm sure that a lot of his improvisational skills defintely come from the time that he spent touring with Miles. Jazz Musicians never play the song the same way. Marcus has once stated that he doesn't always know what they're going to play, I'm sure that's the Jazz influence. And You're right about his work with Luther. Those Bass Lines are very uniquely Marcus. I've seen Marcus in concert on several occaision's. I really enjoy his Call and Response segments. Where he calls out one of the members of the band and they exchange musical riffs. Now that's something special . I'll be posting a Call and Response video very soon. Thanks for the comment.
