The scene with Hal Williams is perhaps one of the greatest ever committed to film, but overall it's a bit of a snoozefest

It's probably helpful to note that in the time Hardcore was set in, pornography had not been legal for even a decade. Until 1973, it was all VERY underground and illegal. It was rife with organized crime and smugglers and all the folks that always benefit the most from prohibition laws. Even after 1973, it was a very rough industry. Legally, you were guaranteed lawsuits and legal problems (and no fair treatment). Deep Throat and Behind the Green Door and other porn films made it into mainstream theaters in some places, but most people only ever saw magazines until the 80s came along with VHS which boosted the industry and led to a lot of more legitimate business interests getting involved.

Another thing I love about the Camp Counselor Jason universe is the Halloween crossover. Just Laurie and Micheal being siblings is fun, plus Judith Myers having to worry about a rambunctious knife wielding toddler sounds weirdly funny in this world's context. Plus the design is also top notch too.

Meanwhile there's Johnny, AKA Jason with the serial numbers filed off from In A Violent Nature. He really plays up the inherent childishness of Jason, as many of his kills come off like temper tantrums (he's only killing people because he wants to get his mother's stolen locket back), and at one point he flat-out stops his rampage to play with a toy car.

I love Jason, but no. He’s thoroughly awful. Killing people not doing anything to you is wrong and he’s exhausted my initial sympathy because of that. There’s bright spots there though. Also I’m fine with these nice depictions due to that they’re not very murderous compared to the film even if there were attempts to make him sympathetic.

People always seem to forget: Jason never _sets out_ to kill anyone just for the fun of it. Every time he kills he always has a damned good reason for it: first it was avenging his mother, then pretty much every time afterwards it was when some idiots decided to disturb his rest (seriously when will folk in these movies learn “stay the hell AWAY from that particular lake!”?) then there was Freddy vs Jason (again, not his fault, it was the pizza-faced psycho’s), and Jason X (I don’t really count it as canon but still funny to think even that far in the future Jason still kicks ALL the ass). Just … leave the poor guy ALONE will ya? 😒😒😒
