Hmm...the Force is strong with this one...

Just spent a weekend practicing Ju-jitsu, Kung-Fu (combat Tai-Chi), Shotokan, Kempo and of course Aikido. I have dan grades in Ju-Jitsu, Judo and Aikido plus I've spent time boxing. The one thing I can tell you is that they're all the same. Different ways of teaching, different exercises, different forms or kata's. In essence when it comes down to it there are only so many ways of hurting or controlling the human body to gain an advantage. It's easy to call out any one martial art if you've little to no experience. Did you know that Tokyo Riot Police have to have at least 2 dan grades before they can attend the Yoshinkan school of Aikido. Did you know that the basis of British Police unarmed restraint is Aikido, as are some of the techniques used by the British Army. What you're watching here is practice and believe me Yamashima Sensei is quite impressive.

If this Aikido is so effective why is it that not one person ever stepped into the Octagon? Let me tell you why. Aikido world would lose millions of dollars.

My eyes jumped out when i saw the jedi swords. LOL great video. I wouldn´t mind having a laser boken indeed!!!=D.

i actually own some force fx lightsabers which work really well for bokken practice, especially shinkage ryu stuff. i've got some footage of us doing bokken tori somewhere but it's not very good, i'll try to upload something as a reply to this.

Please tell us if those are the typical Star Wars type light swords available and if so what brand have you found the best for what we do in Aikido. If they are similar but something new please let us know about the shinai laser you are using.

IMHO it is about time someone had the guts to show Aikido swordsmanship using modern technology which appeals to and reflects the blending of the ancient with the modern. I have wanted to see the transition of the bokken to the more modern development of the light saber to emphasize that the ideals of the Jedi are reflective of that we teach and strive for in Aikido . Bravo!!
