I'm surprised Roger & Gene didn't mention that this is a gender flip on the old Cyrano de Bergerac story! We've seen film adaptations from the traditional view before such as Roxanne with Steve Martin as the Cyrano type character. He's intelligent and funny and interesting but because he's not good looking he has trouble getting women to want him. His friend is hot and all the women want him but he's dumb as a stick and boring. Thus the problem. Well The Truth About Cats and Dogs just flips the story with two women after the same guy. This time Janeane is supposed to be the Cyrano character, funny and smart but ugly so she can't get guys. Except that Janeane isn't ugly, in fact she's downright beautiful in this film. So in that sense I'm not sure it works as well as it should. I still like it though!
What movie/show is this

just wow….talk about casting pearls at..well u know how that ends. An epic masterpiece in front of him and this guy is obviously waay too cool for it, apparently. This episode has not aged well at-all. Hopefully Roeper got sent back to film school for some remedial classes, cause boy he sure did need to.
I have to agree with Roeper.... ive sat in 3 hour movies before and fellowship bored me... 2 towers and return are much better but fellowship is not a great opener
This film is incredible. Nothing could even touch it upon release, the other two don't even come close.
Always leave it to Siskel to be a buzz kill
Remember 9/11 victims. 😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
I was 10 years old when they won the gold medal. That summer Herb had a hockey school & I was lucky enough to attend. Got to meet a lot of the players on the medal team. What an honor ! I still have my helmet that all of them signed ! RIP Herb
In Richard Roeper, they discovered a film critic even more joyless and cork sniffing elitist than Gene Siskel. That's quite a feat.
"I'll make it." 😭
You know what, it is personal opinion but, these two boring farts haven't a clue!
this movie prophesized the FUTURE........look around you.......the Nerds won lol
I can understand. I remember people in the theaters going, "That's the end?" Everyone I talked to said it ended weird, but they liked it. Some scenes could have been edited down.
Mr. Roeper gushed about Attack of the Clones, also released about this time. The man is entitled to his opinion but, man……
Bill gates’ real dad 🤓
If only Siskel & Ebert went to high school for 7 1/2 years, they wouldn’t be such dummies. This review was worth $2
Even this moron was won over by the end of the trilogy. That tells you how amazing it is.
Said to find out later, that this was the first unintentional jump to reality TV, where they had to fake the drama and fake the disagreements to keep it interesting.
It was kind of a lame movie. Gene’s right: the characters are so basic.
What the hell was Gene Siskel thinking? It’s arguably the greatest sports film ever put on celluloid.
TDIL: Who Richard Roeper is TDIL: Richard Roeper is a moron
They put their noses up in the air but they are up their behinds and they like the smell.
So unfortunate that Roeper was Ebert’s sidekick throughout so many important movie reviews.
No way that pitch was a strike anyway.
R.I.P Bogart and Bacall.
I don't think that this is a " ridiculous movie" 😡 These " critics" have no sense of style,or even know what they are even talking about! 😤 This is a classic film and thrilling! 😁 Christine is a beautiful badass car 😈💖😁
Honey fix the tracking. lol!
"Harry Potter a better movie" What?! I've never heard that said... ever before now.
This has aged like milk. xD
Roeper sucks
When it came time to write my newspaper review on this movie, I dunno, something just came over me. My fingers on the keyboard had little minds of their own. I was rolling along, writing my usual scathing, but civilized comments, when suddenly, a sinister inner force took over and I found myself typing, and I quote, "I HATED THIS MOVIE! HATED! HATED! HATED! HATED! HATED THIS MOVIE! HATED IT! HATED EVERY SIMPERING, STUPID, VACANT AUDIENCE-INSULTING MOMENT OF IT!" unquote and so on.
Amazing that people were watching their review and then they were going to watch the movie. They tell you the whole story, what's the point of actually watching it?
If you think Siskel and Ebert give away too much, you should watch the trailer. ua-cam.com/video/fxo6F6rJv7E/v-deo.html
@@jpo8193 That's why I don't watch trailers.
These guys are idiots. “We’re expecting a hard fast mean comedy” “A black comedy hat it wants to be” No, you morons, it’s a farce! “Throw Mama from the Train” Danny Davito and Billy Crystal are comedians, and heavies?!? How do you get black comedy?
What's crazy is Roxanne made it into Siskel's top 10 in a following year but PTA is leaps better than Roxanne.
24 hours of Christmas Story plays on both our TVs during the season
I love how Ebert said "Early scenes in the movie are about he how convinces them that they can play good ball." Then it shows a scene from literally the last play of the championship game at the end of the movie.

Harry potter is better movie......WTF is this guy smokin.
Ha, Roeper trying to claw back credibility after his disastrous first review of LOTR.
Roeper vs LOTR?
Trading places was preceded by 48 hrs.and followed by Beverly Hills Cop. Three films that featured Murphy during his meteoric rise to fame in the early to mid 80's. Trading Places is probably one of the best remembered and revered comedies of that decade. It still holds up wonderfully today, so well cast and directed.
The band is not actually playing a certain Sly and the Family Stone song???
One of the funniest movies of all time, as far as I'm concerned.
This was one of the funniest movies of the '80s. This and Murphy's "48 Hours" left me rolling in the aisles in laughter all evening when I saw them in college. Many thanks for posting Siskel & Ebert's original positive review. Rest in peace, Gene and Roger
Roeper’s a joker Not your movie But won every academy award and made over a billion, which makes your opinion moot
I just CAN'T BELIEVE what Roger said about Chaplin and The Great Dictator.
"its too long" *SPAMS ENTIRE EXTENDED SERIES 5X A YEAR*
This was a cute, funny movie, perfectly cast and shot. Unfortunately, the lead actor, Lenny Van Dohlen, passed away two years ago. Thank you, Lenny, Roger and Gene, for all your fun and wisdom. Rest in peace.
The love story with losing the bitch and falling in the lap of the awesome girl, yeah they missed it back then. And it still makes us smile.
4:11 Oh, Robin... 😢
