Unboxing Aleta's Fabric (8/26/24)
I was given a box of my best friends quilting fabric. She passed away in 2021. I'm going to unbox the fabric and see what is in there.

Many prayers for your grand baby. I loved the fabric unboxing. I think you're friend (r.i.p) would have been pleased that her son gifted them to you because of your friendship and that you shared this interest and will put it to good use. I'm a member of the SABLE (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy) Society and I wish I had a friend that had the same interests as me. I have so much fabric, quilt and cross stitch patterns, trims, rulers, etc. I have 2 Pfaff's and a 1948 Featherweight and would love to know I could leave it all to someone in my will that would use it. Glad he didn't donate it to a thrift shop but guess that would be better than dumping it. That's probably what will happen to my stuff one day, just dump it-so sad. People that don't craft just don't realize how much was spent on all this stuff or don't want to be bothered trying to sell it or haul it to thrift stores. I don't know why I make stuff anymore. I can't use it because cats are destructive but I just have an itch to create. I'm never bored. I was hoping to have lots of time in my retirement to do more crafting but I'm caring for my 91 yo Mom and her little zoo of cats. Now I need some PT......not exactly what I had planned. I do the best I can. Thanks for sharing.

I could not agree with you more! We sold a lot of her more expensive supplies to our quilt guild for very low prices. It was a win for her son and for guild members. We also donated supplies to them, as well. I wish I lived closer to you! It sounds like you have wonderful treasures. I hope you get a chance to enjoy all your goodies. Thank you for your heart-felt response.

Wonderful repurpose of linens and needlework, and if you have a airport gift shop you could go with some of the things you have made and see if you can get them to do consignment resale for you a split part of the profit, to not have to mail things anywhere. They would make fantastic last minute shopping gifts for people getting on planes to go where ever they are going, that are easy to put in a bag or just carry under their arms. Each is unique as you stated, and charge high price, they feel they are getting something very special for a loved one that cannot be replaced. You would do well. write up some kind of contract that is simple and straight forward. Go once a month to restock, and get copies of all receipts. Or sell them to antique stores, they will use them to enhance displays yet have them for sale. Just an idea or two for all your hard work. You could try to sell them at RV parks, as people would love to decorate with things that do not add excessive weight to the RV, but personalize the interior of their home. You could ask the park owner if you could do a Saturday trunk sale for the guests.

Wow what an interesting sewing journey! Your determination is amazing. My mother could make anything and sewed all of my and my two sisters’ clothing…plus she worked in a sewing factory! She taught herself to sew as a young girl. I, on the other hand, only sew if I have to. I do not enjoy it at all, but I am in awe of people like you who can sew beautifully. Wasn’t Rhoda’s shop the neatest place? It was my favorite place to shop! Enjoyed your video!

I loved Rhoda's Doll Emporium. I really owe all of this endeavor to her and my daughter Taylor. I just love to sew, but they encouraged my online doll business.

Great plan!! I had a home based business in the late 1980s sewing a lot of “country” type items, remember the bunnies etc in dresses, those items. I did extremely well for a few years and then we moved, divorced and so on. So like you said, stick with it and you can be successful!! You have the passion. The good Lord gave you the creativity!!! ❤️❤️

You sound a lot like me I took home ec for five years in jr,sr school. I’ve always loved dolls. I have so many outfits for dolls so I have three granddaughter that are my living dolls, and I have two great granddaughters. They’re my special baby dolls. They will always get clothes from me just like their mommies did. As you say you’re behind I’ll never catch up. I’m so far behind, but I’m just blessed to be able to get up and love the passion that I have for sewing. I have my grandmas treadle machine that I used to sew with her who taught me how to sew when I was five years old, then we graduated to a 1962 pink Atlas machine I have that one also. I have so many sewing machines to even talk about it. You keep living that dream and that passion of yours and that will be a great retirement for you to be able to fill in your time. Happy sewing, and may God bless.

You can get these boxes from MSQC for a better price EVERY once in a while. Once in a while they will put them on sale for around $80 or so. So with shipping, etc. its right around $100. But they only do that maybe 1-2 times a year. You just have to watch for it.

  • @jonnaosborne1832

The navy blue with gold triangles does not look like a batik to me. Even though it may have "Batik" in the name, it's NOT a batik. You can tell a true batik fabric because the front and back look almost identical, and they never have a white selvage with product information. Also, right after you showed the three pieces of Kaffe Fassett fabric, you showed a fabric that you said kind of looks like a batik, but I believe it is actually a GRUNGE fabric from Basic Gray. When you become more familiar with some of these fabric designers and the kinds of fabric, you will be able to recognize them on sight.

@@cottagedesignsbyerin4548 I HAVE, in fact, ordered several of MSQC's boxes, and I have many years of experience with fabrics, so I know what I am talking about. The MSQC bolt end boxes are of great value, and the individual pieces are quite generous. I DO know that there are many fabrics that LOOK like batiks but are not, there is a difference between true solids and fabrics that LOOK LIKE or READ like solids but are not, and there are several designers whose fabrics are similar to Kaffe Fassett's fabrics. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It just takes a while to learn all the little things about various fabrics.

I think the solid lilac/blue fabric could be a Kaffee Fasset to. It looks like one of his shot cottons. Great box! Thanks for sharing

    • @jonnaosborne1832

Yes, it does look like a Kaffe shot cotton. You can tell a shot cotton because the warp threads and weft threads are two different colors.
