The Jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi) is a fascinating and rare wild cat native to the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest. Typically weighing between 4.5 and 9 kg, it has short, solid-colored fur that ranges from reddish-brown to dark gray. These agile cats are known for their excellent climbing and swimming skills, which allow them to adapt to various environments within the forest. Primarily diurnal, Jaguarundis are most active during the day, hunting small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Sadly, like much of the Atlantic Forest's fauna, the Jaguarundi faces threats from habitat loss due to deforestation. One of the camera traps installed along the White Trail captured footage of this elusive wild cat moving through the area.
