I'm going to be talking about the books I like and like not so well... I welcome any input: comments, questions, and requests!
The Hero of Ages - Book Review
Book 3 of the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson: The Hero of Ages, is a fitting conclusion for an already stunning duo. Sanderson continues the rich vein of excellent characters, original magic, and general plot-happy writing. piling on top, the final book answers burning plot questions and questions the reader didn't even know they had, so subtle is Sanderson's writing.
Anyway, to make a long review short, I wish this book were my mother so I'd have slightly more exciting DNA. (Sorry Mum).
10/10.

Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy has swept the shelves of thousands of awestruck readers, and for good reason. In classic Sanderson style, this book is filled with an original magic system which has a beautiful internal consistency and is well constructed as part of the world. Sanderson makes what could be a complex novel into one which is clear and can be easily followed, leading the reade...

J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter is the most successful book series of all time, and for good reason. Rowling's rare insight into universal feelings, combined with original takes on classic fantasy tropes, and a witty writing style, take this book from fun and exciting to timeless and classic. 9.5/10 for the book, 10.10 for the series.

The Traitor's Story - Review
Переглядів 3438 років тому
The bestseller on Amazon in June 2016: The Traitor's Story by Kevin Wignall was a book I was excited to read, but I was sorely disappointed. I had three main problems with this book. 1. Finn's Decisions never really lead him wrong, he makes a ludicrously small, implausible number of mistakes. 2. He receives no punishment or even judgment for his frankly criminal actions. 3. The character of Fin...

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: Review
Переглядів 3738 років тому
A review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. This is the first book in a trilogy and it is a wonderful introduction to the original, magical world of Peculiarities and mystery. Ransom Riggs wrote this story in an amazing way, collecting vintage photographs and constructing a story around them. These photographs came from an astonishing variety of places with little o...

This is a book review of Wizard's First Rule, the first book in the Sword of truth series, published in 1994. This book is classic fantasy, but it has modern application. the lessons that it teaches you, and goes on to teach you with each new book in the series, are ones which stay with the you and affect you long after you put the book away. Goodkind's classic style is perfectly executed, maki...
Brandon Sanderson's Elantris - Review.

This is an introduction to, and review of, Elantris. Elantris is a standalone fantasy novel published in 2005. It is part of the Cosmere, and boasts a unique magic system which is explored as the plot progresses. Sanderson is excellent at world building, character development, and using perspectives to his advantage. This book is engaging, exciting, and a lesson in originality. 8/10. Elantris a...
I really liked this series until book 5 or 6, when it became horrible strawman libertarian propaganda to the point that the story no longer existed and it was all just him trying to dunk on anyone who disagrees with him.
I love all his books and always will.
Hell ya
The issue I had with this book/series is Hearn willingly minimizes her main character by needlessly maiming him. We get teased regarding what he could become skill/power wise and then that reality is quickly and needlessly taken away and he's a shell of that for the remainder of the series. That theme is repeated for the entire series, with us never getting the peak version of the protagonists. Ever.
I am reading the first book now. Yes it has issues, but I am still enjoying it.
What is your favourite book in the series? Mine is Faith of The Fallen
I would BANG…you know 🎉
This book blew my mind when I read it, combining biblical references and King Arthur is phenomenal.
One of my favorite series!! Thank u!! 💜
You rock...
In 1994 I read the Vampire Chronicles. This book I listened to on yt. 10weeks to complete a book is unheard of. He must have written 500 books by now. I am now listening to The first Confessor to understand the very beginning.
Good book review. I listen to the audiobook of book1 a few times. I need to continue to listen to book2. The torture portion of the book is difficult to get through. There’s a lesson there about how Richard can control his power… So some good came from it? I’m conflicted lol
Just reread the first book, I’m 31 and read the book at first when I was 16. I was a sophomore in high school. I agree, the book expanded my mind as a reader. It was so well written. Not only is the Japanese culture beautiful but the zen depicted in the story was beautiful. The heron… the birds.. the eloquently written depiction of the landscape. The pain of humanity but also the beautiful that flows through it. I read that the last name Hearn, was an ode to one of the first western writer who brought the written lore to the west. He was a Greek-Japanese man. I’m thrilled to read the series. I love books that have a beautiful story, delving the reader into culture, sweet romance, and a style that shows how powerful writing can be on the imagination. Glad to know others enjoyed it as much as I did. One love.
I binge read the first book it was soooo good
Greatest writer of all time
By the way, you are right about the first rule.
I started reading this book today and was looking for some background information when I happened upon your video. The reason that I was looking into the background is that, in a way, the bad things that happened in the story are happening in my nation today. So I wanted to know more about the book. By the way he was talking about the flower bearers, the killing of people who didn't agree with the movement and the like. I thought that this was a new novel. But written in 1994? I was very surprised. I know that you don't agree with the communist being a bad thing. But I am starting to experience it, firsthand and believe me when I say that you do not want that in your life. I wish that it wasn't in mine. It is ruining the nation I love and I am sickened by it. I look forward to reading the rest of the book. I am hoping that like the book, my nation will also have a good ending.
I absolutely love this series. Im currently reading the last book in the series - Lord of the Darkwood. Would highly recommend!
Lovely review. Thank you. You've twisted my arm.
What a great review.
Stone of Tears is 🔥 Had to stop at book #2
I’m a 90s girl. I LOVE classic. It’s tropish as hell but it was the 1990s.
Because plot
Richard is the Ubermench: he loves Ayn Rand.
"People are stupid" is like the most libertarian rule you could have lol.
Nice video! Merry Christmas!
Similar thoughts i read 📚 them several times very awesome experience each time.
I grew up with this series and it along with the Lord of the Rings helped me a lot. Eventually I realized the POV of these characters. Many of the characters are very proud and accomplished and, rather realistically, they like to hear themselves talk and explain to Richard things at length. Richard himself is what I would call an intuitive person. He admits himself that he has no idea what he’s doing most of the time! 😂 That’s how his magic works and why I think many people get confused. The politics is a complaint I’ve heard a lot, as if every chosen one story character doesn’t tell the government off at some point. But I appreciated the exploration of the extremes of all the systems. Too much democracy leads to beurocratic complacency. Too much monarchy leads to despotism. Too much communism leads to slavery. Being somewhat independent is the only system that works, especially in a world with magic!
I've just finished book four - The harsh cry of the heron !!!!!! I couldn't put the book down and completed the last 300 pages today !!!!! This series blew my mind , no hate to acotar or fantasy series that are similar , i quite enjoyed and loved those too , but something in this series made me feel like i was more involved in the stories . I felt like it held me and pinned me down to one spot , i had an unwavering attention for the story !! I already started the last book - Heaven's net is wide . You know the kind of books you read and you instantly know upon closing it that , they're gonna stay with you for a very long time ..... The ones you feel like you'll look back several years later and feel warm and nostalgic about..... the ones you know will grip your heart when you recall reading them.... This series is definitely one of THOSE !!!!
I like monkeys how bout you?
review eye of the world. im on chapter 3.
These books turned into a political condescending rant after book four or five. they lost their imagination in place of a moral dialogue. i can't believe you liked them after that! i got to about book 8 or 9 idk. but they were becoming a chore by then lol - i'm really slow reader. I do agree with your comments on communism - all taken out of context and imagination completely. unfair political propagandistic rant. and he got paid for it.
If you want a creative consultant/boyfriend give me a shout. okay?! (just Starting wheel of time - robert jordan. if you can give me a review of the first book sometime for me it would be great. I'm a really slow reader at the minute, so no hurry)
Your reviewing content is great btw. i just thought 'restructure woman!' lol
I love how much you get into your reviews and i agreed with your insights on WFR. your character detailing is at the begining and you take us through the book in a kind of linear drive from point A to B and it diminishes the quality of the overall piece. I love you are so involved in what you're doing and its clear you know what youre on about, so i have to say this - you need to restructure your review! You should give the fullest overarching story at the beginning, succinctly without giving anything away. then consider and compare the world imagined by the author, detailing the characters and tying them in to strengthen and hold up the review. While you're getting a wetty over some character for reasons you already know, we don't know the story and the world doesn't have any structure yet. I love how passionate you are and agreed with what you said ad your isights on WFR, so i order you to restructure your review. Your passion is exciting. And you have great DNA btw....
what the fuck
I read this years ago when my bookstore got an advanced reader copy and absolutely loved it. You did a great job reviewing it and I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. 10 out of 10 for sure.
You keep saying "he" when referencing the author. The only problem with that is that these books were written by a woman. Lian Hearn is a pseudonym used by Gillian Rubinstein.
Just recently read this and it was a really great book!
You got a new subscriber great review from Texas USA !
I feel the same as you! Except Lian Hearn is a girl I believe :p
Its my fav book but i gave it to my friend and see didnt give me back and its been three years. Also i couldnt want back cause maybe she lost it
I enjoy your book reviews. Why did you stop posting content?
1:50min
Loved this book and series.
He is a she
Except after C, or when sounding like A, as in Neighbor or Way.
Hey, why don't you make videos anymore? You were doing a good job.
Thank you for giving an honest review. I was a bit taken aback by the very extreme vitriol this book gets. The “too perfect” thing might bug me a bit, but at least it’s tied into the story. Also as a red-blooded American I hate communism so I don’t see that bother me 😂 People make it sound like the most evil fantasy book ever written, but it clearly isn’t. Will definitely be checking it out.
The hate this series gets is basically a social media bandwagon that tons of people have jumped on. And most haven't even given the books a chance. Fantastic series, give it a try. The books do get better as they go along but book 1 is still great.
@@blacknwhitecookie8967 there might be some truth to that, but people who have read them also seem to agee that they're bad. also terry was a pretty shitty person, so that might have had an influence
Arguably the most garbage writer in human history, and a terrible person to boot. This is trash and if you enjoy reading this, you should stick with YA, not because this doesn't have adult themes, but because you can't comprehend anything deeper.
You seriously liked this plagiarism, regurgitated slop? This book has no depth, is very predictable, and everything in it is so bad, blah it sucks.
It's pronounced o-tor-ee, not o-tah-ree. Also, 'Lian' not 'Liam'.
