DIY Home Seltzer "On-Tap"
Turns out I forgot to mention the regulator for the gas in my price list which was an additional $70 as well as the filter housing and filter which was an additional $46 bringing the total to $506

    Awesome system and very well done Sean! I am have been making home seltzer water for many years using the 2-liter bottle and co2 tank method. Question: If the carbonator is just pumping water into a chilled tank with Co2 applied to the tank...why is the pump really needed? It does not seem like it is agitating the water? Does is add PSI to the system for enabling the water from the tank to travel a distance? My experience has been that agitating cold water with Co2 gets the "tart" I like. I run about 32psi with vigorous shaking for about a minute total. I am not quite getting how the carbonator is able to infuse the co2 into the water as it seems the two only meet in the chilled tank. Thank you!

      @seanmacdonald8476 2 дні тому

      @real_sovol_sv01_experience91 nice sounds like you've been making some tasty seltzer! The pump is required bc the co2 tanks regulator is setting the pressure in the tank. So if you're co2 is at 90 psi that overrides most home water systems pressure hence the pump. I assume the ambient pressure in the tank even after water is added will still be whatever you set it to on the regulator.. I think the pressurized nature of the system is what requires not agitation. Compared to your system where you are adding gas to water I am adding water to gas. Hope that's clear!

    What i don't like about the McCann's pump is the internal vanes are plastic, the vanes wear and from time to time you can see the plastic specs in the water. there is no filter that ive found to successfully filter under the 125 psi pressure produced post pump. Ive flushed the pump and tank multiple times and still have issues.

    I had the LTs in a small and the thigh was way too tight. I am a former soccer player so I have bulkier thighs which definitely contributes. My waist is about a 30-31 for reference and my thighs were screaming. I also used them for rock climbing three times and took a small whip off a climb which led to a 3 inch scratch on the left leg. They’re decently durable but agree with you, for the price point I think it’s better to get Outdoor Research Cirque II.

    Thatnk you for the video. I have a couple of questions. 1. Are you doing any sort of insulation where you cut the hole to prevent the loss of refrigaration? 2. Do you know how minimum temp for the motor? Im wondering if the BigMac would function in a Keezer.

    • @seanmacdonald8476
      @seanmacdonald8476 Рік тому

      Hey, I'm not doing anything for extra insulation the hoses take up just about all the space. You could get messy with some spray foam as others have done but I just haven't. I do not know any specs regarding the motor and temperature sorry! With a little extra hose and some more fittings you can detatch the motor/pump and keep it externally

    Seems like it would have been way easier to just fill a corny keg with filtered water and carbonate that straight off your CO2 tank. Dispense it with tap just like a kegerator.

    • @seanmacdonald8476
      @seanmacdonald8476 Рік тому

      But then you would have to fill the keg like a plebeian. And you would need to be able to fit the corny keg in a refrigerator which would further limit your capacity. Easy is for wimps. Unlimited tap is for kings

    • @rkivuti
      @rkivuti Рік тому

      I have to agree. I wanted to go the kegerator route as I had an extra mini fridge but it was too much work. After eating h fridge to keg conversions I would have to cut up the fridge so the keg would fit. Then have to replace the keg ever so often then wait for it to carbonate. This route is also cheaper depending on how much you pay for the carbonator. Thanks for the vid.

    I live in Hawai’i but the nights do get cooler in the winter and I often reach for a light jacket to wear over a tee. I have the Beta SL, but I don’t like the sound of the goretex and the plastic feel against my bare arms. Which jacket would you recommend for low to mid 60s and for daily wear in an air conditioned office?

    • @seanmacdonald8476
      @seanmacdonald8476 Рік тому

      I personally wouldn't be likely to use either of these in that use case and opt more for a fleece or hoodie for office use. If outdoor cool nights over a tee you would probably prefer the mx considering it is fleece lined and would feel nice on the skin but may be over kill warmth wise. I am in the cold mountains tho and our definitions of cold are def different. I don't think you'll like the texture of the LT on your bare skin either.

    You can add a long section of coiled hose inside of the fridge to the water in line. When water is pulled in it will pull the chilled water in that length of hose first. This is how the water dispenser in my old fridge served cold water. The only challenge is with mini-fridges not having the best temperature control to keep it above freezing, so I would be careful with thermostat and placement of hoses. Possibly some strategically placed insulation to keep the coldest area semi-isolated to the coil and thermostat.

  • @Rezendes
    @Rezendes Рік тому

    I'm currently working on a very similar setup minus the filter and add in a corny keg inside the fridge where the water first comes in so it can be cold when it enters the big mac. I wanted to ask you about the process of cutting a hole in the fridge and mainly what you used to seal it and how that experience went. Also I plan to detach the motor and run that outside the fridge to avoid damage from condensation. I've also seen suggestions to insulate the water lines in the fridge so they don't freeze, also on the outside to the dispenser to keep it as cold as possible. I'm also going to make a video overviewing my experience once I get it running. I have made I think every mistake you can on this and also I'm so surprised you got a big mac for $150, that's so cheap.

    • @seanmacdonald8476
      @seanmacdonald8476 Рік тому

      Interesting, I'm looking forward to hearing about your findings. Cutting the fridge sucks. I have some random $25 yard sale find but even with a brand new fridge I doubt you'll be able to find schematics on where the coolant lines are running. I would assume that they are basically everywhere. I used a dremel to cut into the sheet metal on the side and bent it back to see if i was safe or not. I was pretty delicate and still ended up knicking a copper line inside luckily it didn't blow. i just put duct tape around the sharp edges shoved the lines through and called it good. It could be done "better". As for the insulated lines, yes that is the main reason I cannot go colder. Perhaps larger line would be better although I am already using 1/4". Is there a product in mind you know of for line insulation?
