Question: In part (a) and (b) for the 10-foot layer, suppose you are given both moist and dry unit weights of the soil. Which one do you use to calculate total stress and effective stress? dry unit weight or moist unit weight? My thoughts is to go with moist unit weight because it is not likely that all of 10 foot of soil is dry. So, moist unit weight is the right number to use, but I am not sure. In part (e) the last term -35*gamma of water, shouldn't that be -30*gamma of water?

How come to calculate pore pressure at A, you didn't add the height of saturated clay + height of water (h) all multiplied by gamma water? AKA [(7-5) + h]Gamma.water + 4.5 Gamma.water = pore pressure. In the previous example with the upward seepage you added those values to calculate pore pressure but here it is simply the height of the piezometer. Thanks

What do you do if you don't have a D10 value on the curve? In the example I'm using, 27% of the soil ends up in the pan, so the final plotted point is also at 27% finer.

how to calculate Cu and Cc if maximum percentage finer just 27.5% finer, if not mistaken to calculate Cu and Cc, first we need to find D60,30,10 but in data the maximum % finer just 27.5%?
