VCHSS Don Wise Memorial at Oak Ridge 2024 - Morning Event (Open Electric Class)
This is Round 14 of the 2024 Virginia Championship Hare Scramble Series at Oak Ridge Estate. I'm riding a Stark Varg in the Open Electric Class. I finished in 1st place in my class (Against 2 way faster A class riders who only ran 2 laps) and 149th overall out of 281 riders on the track. The track was super fun and flowy and the dust was only really bad in the fields. I had a blast at this one, as I always do at Oak Ridge and at most VCHSS races.
3:30 - "Battle" with Tim Cochran (50A Champ)
11:20 - I get passed by 2E
15:47 - I almost crash after a botched log jump
16:53 - Rider falls in front of me
31:46 - Start of Lap 2
53:22 - I crash hard in the field and camera shuts off

      No I haven’t. From what I understand it won’t go well because they aren’t hi flow pumps and you won’t be able to move and brush hog at the same time.

      That’s what I use mine for and it is awesome. Honestly though looking back you can get an excavator cheaper and I think it might be more useful around the house, especially if you get a hydraulic thumb for it. Either of them are awesome to have around the house though I think.

    Did you have to install a fuel pressure regulator for this electric pump or do you have it plumbed directly into the old diaphragm pump? Also an update on how it’s doing would be great. My Rato keeps losing its prime and cutting off. I don’t think it has enough pull to bring fuel all the way up from the tank.

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike 25 днів тому

      Yeah that’s common. I piped it directly to the existing diaphragm pump. Basically I just cut the line from the existing fuel tank and stuck it in there and wired it to the key switch so it comes on with the key. Runs great. I’ve put over 15 hours on it like that and zero issues with it cutting off so far.

    Does your oil temperature gauge light blink even though it doesn't work when on? You should have installed the battery behind the engine after going all that trouble to replace it. It would have moved 30 lb 2 ft to the rear down low and allowed you to charge or change it easy. Would have had kept the rear door for that though.

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike Місяць тому

      There's nowhere to put the battery back there. That space isn't flat and its where my fuel pump is mounted and it would be in the way of the radiator. I would also have had to get new battery cables. The light doesn't blink, it just stays on all the time. I use a digital laser thermometer to check the operating temp and I've not had a problem so far.

    Probably carburetor issue…..had to add a electric fuel pump to mine….I have over 100 hours on it…….

      I have an electric fuel pump on the predator motor now. Low compression wouldn’t be caused by a carb issue. Checked valves too. Head gasket had failed upon later inspection.

    Do you know how to tighten or replace a track that’s fallen off?

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike 5 місяців тому

      Yes I do. Pull the grease fitting out at the track with the large nut and take a shovel and wedge it between the front pulley and the bucket and push the pulley back. Then use 3 or 4 1-1/4” diameter sticks in every other tooth of the track to guide it back on the pulley. There are UA-cam videos others have made. You have to jack the machine up.

      Check my channel. I’ve done two other hare scrambles on it this season. Hangover Hare Scramble in January when AMA hadn’t changed the rules and I ran in the 40+C class and then the first round of the VCHSS Series this year in the Open Electric class.

    How much did you pay for it? Or what would a good price be for one?

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike 5 місяців тому

      I think I paid $5300 out the door at auction. I feel like anything under $6k is probably a decent buy.

      Yes it came with the Rato 739 and I replaced it with a similar predator 670 motor.

    I recently bought a chinese mini skid steer and it looks like it has the same motor as yours. Can you or someone tell me what replacement oil filter I need. It did not come with any documentation or extras.

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike 5 місяців тому

      Same as a predator 670 motor from harbor freight. You can use the same filter. I bought a Kizut 136-7848 off Amazon.

    Do you know what the issue could be if the tracks won’t move? It seems like it tries to spin but it stops after an inch. Won’t go in reverse at all unless we push it .

      I’ve heard drive motor seals can go bad if there’s metal in the hydraulic system. People are replacing drive motors with a higher quality equivalent and buying seals to rebuild their existing drive motors. I don’t have much detailed info as I haven’t had that problem.

    The "noise" these motors emit is becoming very irritating to me, if you can believe that.

    • @lurtbike
      @lurtbike 4 місяці тому

      I can believe it. It’s less noticeable when you’re riding the bike and it’s a way to gauge your speed. It’s also fun as hell to ride so you don’t think about the noise as much.

    I had a similar problem with a new predator 670 (1 cylinder dead out of the box) I did the same quick checks as you did, then brought it back to HF for a refund. I'm still puzzled as to what was wrong, but digging into it more might've jeopardized the refund. I sort've assumed it was a carb/intake issue since there was hot spark and compression. Too bad the China digger builders are moving away from Vanguard 23's.
