Airport Taxiway Edge Light Desk Lamp Restoration
Переглядів 343Рік тому
This taxiway edge light I found in a junk pile at a nearby general aviation airport. I've done these before but decided to make a video of it and put it on UA-cam. I have not seen any other video like this so I seem to be the first. FAA design standards: www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/150-5345-46E.pdf

Did you only purchase 1 pigtail or 2?

Thankyou for this video, I have been working on my brothers 87 5.8 f150 in my free time for the past few months resealing the engine and doing a bunch of other work, and the accessory drive has given me fits, particularly the alternator. I could not get the alternator to fit right, and one of my belts that came off of it was suddenly WAY too short. This one isnt exactly the same but it's close enough that I think you showed me the way the alternator needs to be sitting, I've been trying to figure out why it doesn't fit and why the tensioner doesnt clear and trying to put it above that bracket where it is on all my bricknoses and obs trucks. I'm pretty sure you just helped me solve the puzzle that's been driving me nuts because this is the only thing I've been able to find that actually helps. Even though my issue isn't the topic of the video I really appreciate it big time, thanks!
Nice video, asking for the gasket if you have the part number please?
Vent Valve Seal LMC Truck Part # 40-1241
Can you make another video of EXACTLY where each pos & neg battery hooks up to what & where...plus any other additional wires .
Look here: www.ford-trucks.com/forums/903504-3g-alternator-wiring-help.html#&gid=1&pid=6
@sclemmons1 thanks for the link ...a few pics are no longer available but there is one decent photo of where all the battery cables etc go to .
@faronf2006 If you google "Ford 3G alternator wiring diagram," you'll find dozens of identical images and diagrams.
Have fun when it breaks off in the chuck.,,
hey I dont know if you'll see this but I have to replace the fuel valve vent too. but I also don't see the rubber tube that it connects to, where should that tube run to?
It runs towards the front of the vehicle.
Not explained is when there are more than one battery.
has it happened again since ?
It has but months later, now it comes and goes.
So was it because of carbon build up on ur valves?
I think so. Apparently, you aren't supposed to use 86 octane gas on these trucks. That's the regular gasoline at higher altitudes.
Do all three turn on when the door is open or only the middle one?
Middle one only.
Oxidized ethanol from the gasoline will create a non-conducting film on the sending unit resistor and wiper. There are solvents like Marvel Mystery Oil, Lucas Injector cleaner, and others that if used in extreme concentrations will dissolve and remove this junk. My '85 F-250 sat for 2 years while I scrounged money to rebuild the engine so the sending units became erratic. I fillet the one tank and added 3x dose and let it sit and only drove on the other tank letting the mix slosh back and forth. I now have a 38 gallon rear and 17 gallon front for a total of 55 gallons; spare tire is mounted on a roadmaster RV hitch which folds down. My 460 gets 10-11 mpg empty and 9 loaded on the highway. Every now and then a fuel pump and sending unit hanger unit will appear on ebay so now I have new front sitting on the shelf. My fuel pumps in the tanks were getting weak so I added a Holley electric fuel pump, 8-9 psi, on the frame and use the tank pumps just to lift the gasoline. My engine had the hot fuel bypass which was junk so I installed a Holley bypass pressure regulator in place of it which gives 5.5 psi to the Edelbrock AVS-2 off road carb which is a great carb IMHO. The 38 gallon rear tank required me to fabricate a hanger using parts from several hangers. I learned years ago that any hose in the fuel tank must be a type that can be immersed in gasoline; Summit has it for about $23 a foot. I have found that a good quality electric fuel pump external to the tank will usually lift the gasoline with no problems and they can pull the gasoline through the bad pump in the tank; I am only talking carb versions here. I have seen Ford do this with their fuel injected versions with a tank lift pump and another high pressure pump downstream for the fuel injection. The only place for ethanol is in my Wild Turkey 101 or IPA beer. added: see e b a y for fuel pump 1985 Ford F-250 Base Extended Cab Pickup 2-Door 7.5L
Any Fuel pumps I could use to replace my rear tank? I have a 85 F-250 460 Cyl. It's a metal tank aswell, can't find the exact Fuel Pump anywhere online so far.
That depends on whether your engine is carbureted or fuel injected. I'm not sure what they were on the 460 that year.
@@sclemmons1 Mines Carbureted, damn ok. Guess all keep hunting these parts lol
@@ShawbazSoaia If it's carbureted, then the pump is on the engine block. The sending unit will be one similar to this one. I would check LMC Truck's website.
'Promo sm' 😘
Did you have to make clearance for anything? Other then clocking it?
No, it was very much plug an play after that.
@sclemmons1 what wiring kit did you end up buying for this conversion...or did you just get one from the auto wreckers ?
@@faronf2006 Sorry, saw your comment for the 1st time today. I had an old 4 gauge battery cable that I cut up and used.
Don't be so scared mate. Throw a rag on its head and grab em up. Works every time.
I'm not scared of them but noted. I just wanted some video before I set it free.
Any constant power will work correct? I’m thinking about just going to the passenger side and using a fuse tap.
Yes
Have you had issues with the belt chirping on startup? I converted my 86 F250 from 2G to 3G like 8 years ago and I can't get more than 5k miles out of an alternator belt ever since. I have to run the belt so tight to keep it from squealing it's ridiculous. Belt brand doesn't matter much, although goodyear gatorback or continential belts have done the best. I have no real need for 130 amps and I'm going to convert mine to 1G since I have had good luck with those on other vehicles. Certainly not putting a 2G back in that thing.
Never had an issue with belt chirping. Is your truck a V or serpentine belt?.
@@sclemmons1 It's single V belt like yours is. I even installed an oversized alternator pulley to slow the alternator down, that helped but once the belt gets to be like 6 months old it just chirps.
@@MattsRageFitGarage which engine?
@@sclemmons1 351W. The pulley setup is the same as your 302. One mistake I made was years ago when I took all of the horrible condition nonfunctioning smog equipment off is I tossed that cast iron alternator/smog pump combo mount and made my own top mount. I doubt that is the issue as it's mounted very solid, but I did buy a CVF racing billet alternator mount kit for it to get rid of my home-made stuff.
@1986FordF-250 I'd check the belt alignment with a ruler to see if and how far off they could be.
it's a c10 or a el camino

Good thing I have black interior 🫠
Look! It's a car! It's a truck! It's an... El Camino!!
So did I understand you to say the replacement was from an older model Ranger? If so what year model? Or was it from an Explorer? Thanks.
Correct, an older model ranger. I forget which year range but the part number is in the description.
Wow that was such a great tip I'm going to run out a buy one of those plastic boxes and that model car to have the cubby to put the box into.
Isn’t this common sense? Like there’s people who needs these kinds of video?
Has society really gotten to the point that we need videos to explain simple things that I figured out on my own when I was about 6?
My car battery has one too, it even has a small device attached to it so I can pull it easier.
