Very neat setup. I have the same magnet on a telescoping rod. Very handy. On thing you might consider is buying roll of magnetic tape to place across the front edge of your desk. It catches the hooks that get accidentally get brushed off your desk before they get to the floor. Be well.

Good Question. I am fishing 5ft deep water. I fish with 6X tippet with a strike indicator approx. 24 inches down on a 5wt. fly rod. Hope this helps.
