Great poem

A wonderful winning poem. I loved it.

I knew MacLiammoir (We were good friends ) and I saw his solo performance of The Importance Of Being Oscar many times . He himself was a man of great culture , style and wit , and all of this he brought to his performance. It cannot be repeated . Simon Callow came close to re-creating the magic when he performed it back in the late nineties - but then , Callow knew MacLiammoir and had seen him perform Oscar many times .

Ihave a cassette recording of the Yeats poems. One of myfavourite is Yeats " He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven " which is one of my favourites

Michael Maccliamor was fantastic. I had a recording of him from the music library-- also reading Yeats. Incomparable.

I have tried without any success to burn it to a DVD, the tracing, or something, is wrong. If there is anybody out there who can do it, put up a post and we can arrange something. Its the complete BBC Arena programme including a bio on Micheal before his masterful performance.

I have tried to obtain a copy of it from both the BBC, where it was broadcast in this country (England), the RTE and even from Michael Mac Liammoir's estate; but without any success. I have an old, and not played for decades, VHS copy of the broadcast which I will try to convert to a DVD. If successful, I will put it on youtube. If I have trouble, is there anybody out there with some special equipment to clean it up and burn it?

RTE showed about 10 years ago..its still in their archives. I recorded it on VHS when it was broadcast. Where i put it, ive no idea. But i do still have the original script. Its a treasure, a gem.

I wonder if 'The Importance of Being Oscar' has survived in the RTE archives - must drop them a line.

Very hard show to pull off. Paul and Annie have a lot of lines to learn. We did this performance last year at The Blakehay Theatre, Weston-super-Mare.
