Why isnt the coolant contaminated?
My truck is screaming and bleeding .
I change about 3-5 of those engjne a month in my EV&Hybrid repair shop. I don’t even need to remove spark plug. If it comes in with a mysterious misfire Usually I will see it has been to other shop usually regular shop and has all new coils . Loosing coolant or the most subtle, drives normal no coolant lose but misfire when starting in the morning or even no symptom at all just oil coming out the head gasket mating surface is a sign that it has already started. The process is very gradual and can take several years before it becomes a full blown problem. That is why when customers come with those tell tale sign and car is still drivable I tell them to start saving 3 grand for the repair 😊
Do you ever replace just the head gasket? I figure it might be a better repair depending on how long they drove it after it went out. I'm guessing most used engines are starting to go as well. And I'll never do another one without changing the EGR cooler, too much of a pain to clean out.
@do-it-dave I own a shop I'm not a DIY I loose a lot of money and time and customer by repairing an engine with an issue. This is from years of experience not Google or UA-cam
@do-it-dave I can't afford to waste time . I own busy hybrid / EV shop I have no time
@@ronaldoquintos1675 so do I, I know what you mean. I can do a hg pretty quick though, especially since these heads don't really need to be machined with the way they fail is mainly just the hg itself.
@do-it-dave 50k miles JDM engine for only 1300 bucks with everything attached. I just did one that came from another shop who tried to do a head gasket twice. Finally they called me I slap a 50K miles engine from Japan complete with everything except AC. compressor. I don't know how long you been in business but you would do your customers a favor by doing it this way.
I always pull the out a little they tie a knot when I’m messing with seatbelts
i was a toyota dealer tech and we would put them on the lathe and put a little bit off towards the back to make it fit. oem or aftermarket parts, it doesn’t matter
Why does this scenario exist
@@mr-toyota just a bad design. it doesn’t matter what parts you try, they all do it
It seems to be because Toyota changed the backing plate on the later models, and all the rotor banks get set to that new depth regardless of year.
@@do-it-dave yeah it was a pain in the ass but that’s cars for u in general
How is Issued a massive recall or repayment for these issues every single one I know that has a Prius 2010 to 2015 has had to replace either the motor or the head gasket at least once s
I agree, Toyota should have recalled this EGR design that causes these head gaskets to blow.
Thst would have been nice on doubt on the recalls
Water pump do you check it?😊
This has an electric pump, not serviceable. I recommend a new aisin pump for high mileage cars.
Can a blown head gasket make ur car not start but if you replace do you think it will start ?
Not normally, especially with these engines. They usually run for quite awhile with a blown head gasket. Although, if you have a bunch of coolant on your plugs, that could definitely cause it to not fire up. I would remove coils and plugs and see if there's coolant in there. If so, yes you can probably get it to start by changing head gasket but you'll want to change coil packs and spark plugs as well
That wasn't a bird. It was a drone.
I think you're right. They're always watching, even after smashing head on into an a/c condenser at 70mph
Will a bad head gasket make it overheat?
Absolutely. Check for all external leaks and then check the head gaskets
I moved from the northeast to the southwest and was shocked at how many older cars were still looking nice and being driven.
Lmfao 😂 ❤ Dam, Utah...🤣
Not missing it at all. Moved south from Detroit to TN in 98' and never shed a tear. Now every vehicle I drive up there to visit gets people wanting to buy them.👍🇺🇲🍺
I'm jealous. Love it down there
Heat is your friend 🙏
Don't you know it!!
Customer like fuck new car meanwhile mechanic just see money $$ "good times"😅
I see a lot of work that has to come together perfectly for a successful head gasket job.
Magnetic dishes my guy
Blue ridge Pkwy
Closest guess yet, but still a couple hours from the north end
Lol
New England
Nope sorry, more south
Beautiful East Tennessee.
Not quite, much more north easternly
US 129 The Tail of the Dragon
I wish, hundreds of miles ne from that though
What is this can someone explain ?
Smoke testing an engine for leaks in the intake system
What part did you end up swapping?
The turbo inlet was cracked and leaking in a couple spots
So the leak was around the EGR plunger? Hard to tell from the video where the air was actually escaping.
Yes exactly, the bushing around that shaft wears out
Super easy to get that fan off with the special tool. Couple taps and it's off. Lots more room
Until you trip on it at night
They're all trip hazards really. This one was tricky because there are very few suitable spots on a ford transit.
Mine is empty
Shall I fill that resivor with antifreeze? One one behind the radiator
If I start the engine for 15 seconds and it builds pressure in the coolant system, that’s definitely a blown head gasket right? If not it’s too late lol I’m halfway done
Not all blown head gasket is like that. Some blown head gasket simply loose coolant but the car otherwise runs fine, you just have to keep adding coolant every so often or your engine will overheat. Recently did one for a customer with a 2015 Prius V. Complaint was a mysterious loss of coolant. They took it to a dealer and they said dealer even used a machine to detect the failed gasket and it passed. I used my own two eyes to see that obviously oil was coming out of the gasket between the head and the block. Which mean the gasket is not doing what it’s suppose to do which is contain fluid where it should be. I did not see any anti freeze coming out there so I have to use an educated decision. First of all what is a head gaskets purpose? It’s to contain both oil and coolant where they should be. Seeing oil outside the engine coming from the head gasket meant it has failed to do its job in the first place. So it has a failed head gasket and I should replace the engine or fix it. I choose to replace engine because Toyota doesn’t even recommend fixing it once it’s failed .
Your moms a spill free funnel
Cmon you really think they smart enough to use tools only thing they using is a saw lol
There aren't many of those old KIA left on the road. All the engines grenaded.
It's normal to have metal shavings all throughout these engines! As long as it gets past the warranty
Y would anyone keep buying kia's if its that easy to steal?
It's not that easy, I had the front completely off to change the engine.
Are they actually worth anything?!? Not all converters pay... it all depends on what they are made out of.
Probably not nearly as much as newer ones.
My 1996 mazda b2300 and my 1999 Toyota Corolla both have an immobilizer. The same one in fact. The 5 speed manual!
No kidding, they've been around forever - in car brands that aren't trying to cut every corner.
@@do-it-dave manuals are seeming to fade from the USA. Toyota only offers the manual in the gr Corolla now while every other country gets the 6 speed in the non gr models.
@@iheartapple-114 sadly that's been the case for quite some time.
why are telling crooks that
It's a joke, you have to remove the entire front of the car to get to it.
I’m a man and don’t drive a Kia, nor does my exhaust have converters, so I’m good.
Ok little girl
It's cracked
Good eye! At least it was only cracked in between on the support
Please it's actually harder than it looks with the radiator and stuff packed in the front of it
that'sthejoke.jpg
Neighbors got cut last night. 15 seconds and gone. If they come around again, they'll have a surprise waiting
Most thieves can’t turn a wrench. And that’s under the hood.
You can't sell catalic convertors anymore unless your a salvage yard and have the title # vin and if u do find somebody to buy it they only give you $25;a week in case it comes up stolen so they can find ya.
I think it's a state by state basis where all the laws are different. But it sounds like a good idea to me
They came out with an ignition fix, where u been?
Shouldn't have been something that even shipped out unfixed in such a late model vehicle.
@@do-it-dave agreed but in their country this type of stuff don't happen, they're made in Korea where ppl do 20 years or sentenced to death for crimes like this, and who would've thought you could just hotwire a modern vehicle? Yes it shouldn't have been a problem but our own country cleared those cars to be sold here. The way I see it is the governments fault more than KIA.
Where's the front end and the radiator and everything else in the way?😂
Haha that's the joke. I was swapping engines, surprise surprise.
Especially if you drive a car with no radiator or core support.
Haha exactly!
With this video kia career has ended even tho most front wheel drive cars are the same
Good luck getting those rusted on exhaust bolts off up north.
I'm in the northeast. I know that pain. These came off without an issue somehow. Felt like a lotto win
Yeah every KIA comes with fully disassembled front end,,, easy accessible just like when you go to sleep lay on your stomach butt naked 😂
