Frontier recently confirmed a new PZ DLC is coming in the Spring. I highly suspect the animals that everyone thought was going to be in the zookeeper pack like the secretary bird and tree kangaroo, are being saved for the one that's coming next year. I highly, highly doubt they are going to add the walrus and musk ox. The walrus is almost fully aquatic and Frontier has been avoiding fully aquatic animals. So that one I don't think is coming at all despite being highly requested like the musk ox.

Clarifications and corrections: Its not entirely accurate to say that none of the pack is Flexicolor. Some decoration pieces are, especially in the Christmas section or any of the fabrics. The torches are also flexicolor. However the wood and ice pieces are not, and they make up a decent portion of the pack. The Caribou I am referring to is the SVALBARD caribou, not the Svartalfheim caribou, as Svartalfheim is a realm in Norse mythology. While it would be a marvel if we could extract animals from myth, that is obviously not so here. Specific data about the polar bear: The polar bears ~used~ to require about 6000m2 of land and around half that of water. In later patches it was changed so that they need between 3000 and 4000 m2 of land and around 1500m2 of water. While this is still an enormous footprint, it is no longer comically extreme. Either quantity of land would be too small for a real life polar bear, and historically they have been kept in habitats that are magnitudes of size too small for them. However, this habitat size issue gave the polar bears a negative reputation in the community, compounded by their stringent foliage tolerances. These also have been upped by a significant margin so you can now decorate with a good amount of greenery. You can learn more in my Big Bear Bend polar bear episode if you have more questions. I did not highlight an exhibit animal in this pack because there isn't one. This pack comes with only the four animals shown. Whether this is due to a lack of arctic animals which make sense for an exhibit or some back end company reason, I don't know.

I'm hoping we can do the server thing again. As for our old home, you can move in if you want. Freya's house might not have rotational power hooked up to it as I was letting her have fun with it. The factory building has all my Create automations and can be accessed by buttons at the front and side doors. The drawbridge and lighthouse are both functional but I think powered by a creative engine as a proof of concept (never ended up hooking it to my main power). That whole area was going to be turned into a town for everyone to visit.

I think Frontier is focusing more on adding the remaining animals than on build pieces.

Those are some valid points about the future of Planet Zoo, whether this is the final pack or not, if this is a thank you from Frontier in joining them on this journey for five years and moving on, or a thank you and a celebration. Why would they give up support like that for the game that's their biggest money maker? They've been surprising me a lot this year. I thought the game was to be done when the console edition was coming, and I was waiting a good while for that to come haha. It's true that anything could happen between now and a potential Planet Zoo 2. Yes, I am waiting to make my list of animals I'd like to see in PZ2, but I'm waiting for when this is done. I could be wrong and see some of those animals like secretary bird, howler monkey, echidna, and tree kangaroo added in this and not wait for who knows how long. The Jurassic World Evolution games kind of have a timeline because of the movies and I can't wait for the third game.

I agree that the communication has been less than stellar and could have ramped far more enthusiasm if they’d put effort into the community. The other part of me says, “City Skylines has 65 DLC packs.” But then maybe in Planet Zoo 2 will be able to fix pathing issues, and some others challenges, which would be a damn good thing. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens. Thanks for your thoughts and content.

I agree we don’t know if this is the last pack or not. There were animals leaked in the dictionary that tells me this is not the last pack. Like Goodfellow, Secretary, Echidna. Even certain countries that are part of an animal’s range have been leaked. Like Bhutan, Bangladesh, Java, Borneo, Sumatra.

Planet Zoo 2 or retirement or not, i'm really looking forward to this pack! I have so many years left with this game even if this is the last pack!

I also watched Zoboomafoo growing up. I think the Coquerel’s Sifaka was the inspiration for the lemurs in the movie Dinosaur.

It looks like we are getting bigger shade structures for guests that I can see in the background in the trailer.

I love quokkas so much! They are always my first entrance animal when making a new zoo; and not just because of their requirements - they're also just adorable!

You make a good point about animals like the Quokka that are supposed to be nocturnal. To respect that, I should consider building those habitats where it’s dark and secluded so they can get away if too many guests are watching. This goes for the aardvark too and any animals marked as shy.

I'm pretty positive the animal pack we're getting isn't the last pack. When I rewatched the Frontier Unlocked livestream, they said the next animal pack, not the last, which leads me to believe there are more coming. I think the community wants it to be the last pack because they want that Zookeeper Collection pack.

Aquatic habitats are by far my favorite but I've been struggling with some of the build mechanics involved. This helped a lot! Thank you.

creative use of the Create mod, very cool

It’s dawned on me that the reason we haven’t gotten flying birds is not only can the game’s engine not handle it but they’re trying to be respectful of real life keeping requirements of animals in the game. I considered the game’s hit boxes as a reason eagles and vulture haven't been added. I think they are favoring animals that are in higher demand from the community. Some people thought we were getting a Zookeeper pack but the teaser art tells me it’s mountains and not the last pack.

I'm hearing different things from people in the Planet Zoo community. Some are saying Frontier didn't say there are two DLCs coming and only one is confirmed for October and they never said anything about another animal pack on the game's anniversary. Others are saying we don't know if this is the last DLC or not. Maybe I'm speculating too much other people's channels and they don't want to know my thoughts on what animals might be in the new pack or if there will be more DLCs?

There are some people that seem to be convinced the pack teased will be the last pack for Planet Zoo. No, Frontier hinted there will be another one following this one's release. I think it's because they want that Zookeeper Collection Pack with highly requested animals and they want the game to end.

I've started wondering if Frontier is favoring the wishlists of Content Creators like RedPandaReggie, CesarCreates and Leaf and ignoring heavily requested animals on the wishlist like the secretary bird, walrus and musk ox. I say this because some of the animals on RedPanda, Cesar and Leaf's lists have been added to the game.

According to the Frontier Unlocked yesterday, I don’t think they are quite done with the game yet. I believe they are holding back the title of the new DLC and only shared a teaser image get people talking. They said during the livestream there will be more information in the next two weeks and that there is another animal pack launching on the anniversary of the game alongside the free update. People are saying I misunderstood what Frontier said but I know exactly what they said. I listened to it like everyone else did.

The two devs really did an impressive job but I'd guess, even the full version will feel like a (polished, charming and tiny) tech demo. There's so much potential and I bet a few sim features, more options, maybe villagers who interact with your buildings and each other, would do a lot for long time motivation. It's such a great base and I hope the devs will keep building on it.

Leaf put out a new speculation video covering the dictionary theory saying he found some hints. I took a look at it and found some hints too. Some of the hints Leaf found pointed towards the tree kangaroo, secretary bird, hamadryas baboon and honey badger. Some of the ones I found point towards macaws, an eagle, a pigeon, and lovebirds. Others in the community are not so sure there will be more birds in the new pack being announced next week. Some think it will be twelve with animals in the top seven on the meta wish list. But I have considered that with the maximum number of animals being 200, there is no room for flying birds. Ground or flightless birds like flamingos, peafowl, pigeons, cranes and doves are easier to make. A lot of players think they’re saving the highly requested birds for a sequel. But I still think they could give us a macaw and parrot.

I did eventually figure out how to stop machines once a container was full with another Create device called the Threshold Switch. Also, there is a distance limit for the redstone transmitters of a few chuncks, so transmitter channels are actually not a problem. It was fun playing with you Jakkal and if you ever need help with create (or most tek mods) let me know and I'll be happy to help 😀

I’m seeing a lot of primates and ground dwelling birds on the 2024 meta wishlist. Ranging between #1 and #4, meaning they are very high in demand. But now I see why people have been saying to keep expectations low on getting flying birds for bird shows. There are no flying birds on the meta wish list. They are either ground dwelling or wading birds.

I don't know why it was recommended for me... But ya know what? Screw it, I'm watching this while working.
